Trump Complains America Leads Too Much, Wants Diminished Role in NATO

Calls America a 'poor country'

Republican front-runner Donald Trump expressed his distaste for how often America takes a leadership role in international affairs on Monday.

Trump was specifically upset with the role the United States plays in NATO.

“Ukraine is a country that affects us far less than it affects other countries in NATO, and yet we’re doing all of the lifting,” Trump told The Washington Post.

“They’re not doing anything. And I say, ‘Why is it that Germany’s not dealing with NATO on Ukraine? Why is it that other countries that are in the vicinity of Ukraine, why aren’t they dealing? Why are we always the one that’s leading, potentially the third world war with Russia.’”

Trump told the paper’s editorial board that the United States could not afford to play the same leadership role in world affairs it has played for decades.

“I do think it’s a different world today, and I don’t think we should be nation-building anymore,” he said. “I think it’s proven not to work, and we have a different country than we did then. We have $19 trillion in debt. We’re sitting, probably, on a bubble. And it’s a bubble that if it breaks, it’s going to be very nasty.

“I just think we have to rebuild our country.”

Trump then said that the United States is not rich anymore and, therefor, can’t afford to maintain its leadership role in the international military partnership.

“We certainly can’t afford to do this anymore,” he told the paper. “NATO is costing us a fortune, and yes, we’re protecting Europe with NATO, but we’re spending a lot of money. South Korea is very rich, great industrial country, and yet we’re not reimbursed fairly for what we do. We’re constantly sending our ships, sending our planes, doing our war games—we’re reimbursed a fraction of what this is all costing.”

Instead, Trump labeled America a poor country.

“I think we were a very powerful, very wealthy country, and we are a poor country now,” he said. “We’re a debtor nation.”

Still not sure why you're still allowed to post. Actually, I lied; I'm certainly aware of why you're still allowed to post.

Please continue. Q: do you get paid by the word or post?

Hannity’s guest today said Trump wants to remain neutral re: Palestine/Israel. I’m sure most of us have heard Trump say this already.

We don’t have boots on the ground to help Israel, but have supported them with sophisticated military weapsons, etc.. So what’s the problem?

The only reason Trump supporters are OK with Trump’s neutrality toward Israel is because they agree with anything Trump says, and will never, NEVER admit he is wrong.

I bet Iran likes Trump as well.

Folks, this is an argument the Jesse Jackson made when he was running for President.
Jackson said the same thing, in essence, that if other countries around the world wanted our military bases in their countries, they should pay for them.
Oh Boy......

It appears that NATO is becoming the army of the United Nations. That’s a problem.

No a safe zone can be created without troops from the USA. You can easily do it by creating that area near the Kurds. Once you kill ISIS these Syrians need to protect themselves. It is easy. Force them to fight for themselves or let them die. They need to be thrown out of every European country plus OURS.

But someone needs to create it to begin with. If not Trump then who? It's his idea. Nobody else has even floated the plan so far as I know. And if he's going to create it and make it big and beautiful then who will provide the means of doing so except the U.S.?

Once you kill ISIS these Syrians need to protect themselves.

And who will get them set up and armed to protect themselves if not President Trump?

It is easy. Force them to fight for themselves or let them die.

That's what's going on now. And it you want to continue it then that negates the whole idea of a "safe zone" then doesn't it?

They need to be thrown out of every European country plus OURS.

With the U.S. out of NATO then we're in no position to suggest or assist the European countries with that. They're on their own. And with Trump's ban on people coming into the country then there they'll stay.

And no ISIS is not totally wiped out now- so”IT IS NOT GOING ON NOW.” With ISIS gone they can be either with the current Syrian thugs or be free with the Kurds. That is an option that should be explored.

With ISIS gone you still have Assad and God knows how many other groups of thugs so without the U.S. forces then Trump's safe zone isn't going to be very safe. So what then? After he takes out ISIS does he go after Assad and the other bands until it's all peaceful for the refugees?
