Why the Republican Establishment Doesn't Like John Kasich
New York Times Magazine ^ | MARCH 21, 2016 | Robert Draper

...He was forced to apologize for publicly describing a policeman who had given him a traffic citation as "an idiot." State Republicans have not forgotten how, in 2013, he lectured the Ohio House speaker Bill Batchelder — a Republican legislator who had served over three decades in the House — about his moral duty to support Kasich's Medicaid expansion plan: "When you die and get to the meeting with St. Peter, he's probably not going to ask you much about what you did about keeping government small. But he is going to ask you what you did for the poor. Better have a good answer."
.
.
"A chicken in every pot," he scoffed when a young New Hampshire woman urged him to support clean energy. He added: "The problem, young lady, is that you can't just make things happen."
.
.
Kasich has also been snappish toward prospective donors. None of this would necessarily set him apart from others in the field, but for Kasich's at times pious-sounding calls for civility and for "living a life that's a little bigger than yourself."..."The whole thing about being the country's healer and giving people hugs is off-putting to conservatives who take ideas really seriously.

That isn’t going to happen, more delusion on his part. He brings nothing to the ticket that I can see.

LOL. The NYT is planting some disinformation making Kasich seem like an an outsider. Kasich is the embodiment of the quintessential GOPe insider.

Has he supported a balanced budget since the 90’s when he was in the House with Tim Penny?

Not much lately...

Want to know about Kasich's balanced budget? He's starved local governments to the point where basic local maintenance can't be done in most cities and towns. Meanwhile he uses the state budget surplus to reward his contractor friends who are his biggest donors. And to pay for things like Common Core and expanded Medicaid that usurp even more responsibility from people, but are real great for the corporations that benefit from them. Also keep in mind that OH is developing a real bad problem with pockets of unassimilated non-citizens.

FWIW, I'm surprised he did so well in the OH primary.

And the ONLY way Kasich can appear electable in this year is to “appear” to NOT be an establishment “best left over of 16 who have dropped out/been beaten already” toadie.

If the election were held today, who would be
your first choice for President of the United States?

Who would be your first choice for Donald Trump's running mate?
