Two New Polls Show Good News For Texas Senator Ted Cruz

A pair of new polls are showing good news for presidential hopeful Ted Cruz.

In a new Fox News poll of 388 likely GOP primary voters, frontrunner Donald Trump and Texas Senator Ted Cruz are now in a statistical dead heat nationally. The poll shows Trump and Cruz polling at 41%-38% respectively, a slight edge for the real estate mogul, but within the poll's +/- 5 point margin of error. Governor John Kasich is running in third place with 17%.

A second poll, this one from Emerson College, is spelling good news for Ted Cruz in the April 5th, winner-take-all Wisconsin primary and in a hypothetical match-up against Hillary Clinton in the general election. Emerson College reports:

Ted Cruz is not only leading Trump 36% to 35% in the upcoming primary, but Cruz is only trailing Hillary Clinton by one point in a hypothetical general election matchup, 46% to 45%. In contrast, Trump is trailing both Clinton and her Democratic rival, Bernie Sanders, by the same 9-point margin of 47% to 38% in a potential general election match-up.

The Emerson College poll also shows Ohio Governor John Kasich rounds out the GOP field with 19% of the vote.

The news could be an indication that anti-Trump Republicans are beginning to consolidate around the Texas Senator.

Funny how these Sleazy tactics appear on election days...and ‘Ted the innocent’ is never involved.

Can we stop with the personal attacks, please?

Both Trump and Cruz would be good for FReepers. Attacking each other does nothing. The rift will heal once this heated primary is over.

untrusTED is the LAST person I’d trust to do ANYTHING for the country.

Let’s see....so far he’s hidden behind this PAC, his former communications manager over Carson lie, and his Senate staffers over his failure to disclose funds/loans.

Speaking of building....Trump has built everything he’s ever said he’d build....either on time, or ahead of schedule....and under budget.

busTED’s never held anything but a government job....is a freshman Senator...and has NEVER had to cover a payroll. Hmmmm....sounds so familiar...yeah, kind of like the liar in chief we’ve had for almost eight years.

No thanks!! No more Harvard lawyers, no more career politicians/govt employees.....

....and, NO MORE PAC PAID DC HACKS!!

Cruz attacked Trump first.

Yeah... no.

Just sayin'.

"Chick'n Donald Trump" may have TOLD you that but he's a liar - and a chicken.

Lesson: A PAC whose stated goal is to stop Trump (a worthy goal) cannot communicate with Ted Cruz. That would be a federal offense. Get your fatcs strate.

Trump is afraid to debate Cruz anymore because HE'S gonna get a whoopin' and he KNOWS it.

...just sayin'

Here's something ELSE for you to think about:
Attention wives and ladies
BOTH men are defending their respective wives. While Ted Cruz is defending his wife's honor from juvenile attacks from a Jr. High bully, "Chick'n Donald Trump" is defending nude pictures of his third wife.

Go figure.

What insult? “I’m going to spill the beans”? How is that an insult? A normal reaction would be “there’s nothing to spill”. Unless maybe there is. And it’s Heidi Cruz who said she and Ted were a team, just like Bill and Hill are.

So while Trump is coming after his wife, Cruz is supposed to defend Trump’s wife?

That’s your solution?

Cruz tried to end something he never was part of:

“Your wife is lovely, and Heidi is the love of my life.

Trump isn’t going to debate because he knows it would 5 to 1 against him, Cruz, Kasich and the three moderators. There have been over a dozen already and Trump won them all. Enough already.

That was not his PAC. It's run by an ex-Walker aide. Walker has not and probably won't endorse Cruz. What aren't you getting here?

How? What did Ted do to Trump, poll higher in the polls?

You do know the ad that Trump responded to was not put out or affiliated with Ted Cruz or his campaign at all, right? It was an anti-Trump SuperPac....not a Ted Cruz SuperPac, so how is Ted responsible for anything in this, let alone to be blamed for “starting it”?

I guess I am the only one around here who has taken a statistics course.

The margin of error applies TO EACH REPORTED VALUE, NOT THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THEM!

Thus, Trump’s 41% means the true value lies somewhere in the range 36-46% and Cruz’s 38% is from 33-43%. Of course the total can’t exceed 100% and even Lindsay Graham can’t score less than zero.

No matter how much staring is done at the results, the method does not support any finer reading. It is unknowable.

Along these lines is the “he moved up two points from last week’s poll conducted by the same polling firm.” Maybe yes, maybe no. The number reported is the central value in the range, so having 40% last week and 42% this week in polls with a 3% MOE, could mean an actual drop in support. Last week could have actually been 43% and this week could be 39%.

All points within an interval are equally likely. There’s nothing special about the central value. Nothing.

Even Rush gets this one wrong all the time.

It’s shameful that professional pollster taking heads on the TV don’t educate on this point. Of course that would make their dramatic pronouncements less dramatic (and thus, bad marketing).

By Cruz’s own standard, the campaign must be controlled from the top.

Ted is the top isn’t he?

Isn’t the PAC supporting his campaign?

Then Ted should control from the top.

Of course that’s only in case Ted didn’t lie.

So was the ad intended to benefit Kasich? I don’t think so. This is politics, you know and I know what’s going on with these PACs. We have CFR to thank for it.

[[If you are referring to the recent incidents re: the wives, you are wrong. Cruz did not post that photo of Mrs. Trump;]]

Save your breath- you can’t reason with the unreasonable- they WANT Ted to be sleazy, and it doesn’t matter if He actually does something or not, all that matters to them is that the accusation is out there- good enough for them-

[[Candidates generally have little to no control; over what ]a PAC does]]

It’s actually illegal for candidates to influence or order groups like the one that posted the ad- but don’t tell trumpies that- it goes right in one ear and out the other- facts don’t matter-

This is how it goes with trumpies- “Ted attacked Trump’s wife with a sleazy ad”

(Then it’s discovered Ted had nothing to do with the group)

Then they downgrade their faux outrage and false accusations by saying: “Ted should have demanded the ad be taken down because they used his name”=- what a slimeball!”

(Then it’s discovered candidates are barred by law from influencing groups like that)

Then they downgrade their faux outrage and false accusations by saying: “Ted should have denounced the ad- he’s sleazy for not disavowing it”

(Then it’s discovered he actually did disavow it)

Then they downgrade their faux outrage and false accusations by saying: “Cruz should have disavowed it earlier- what a sleazebag”

So we go from “Ted wrote a disgusting ad about Malania” to “Well he’s slimy regardless of whether he had anything to do with it or not”
