Lasting Damage for G.O.P.? Young Voters Reject Donald Trump (52% Clinton - 19% Trump)
New York Times ^ | March 24, 2016 | Toni Monkovic

To understand the concern, and in some cases the panic, of many Republican officials over Donald Trump, consider this fact: Young people generally don’t like him. The potential of losing an election is one thing, but as polling numbers suggest, the Trump brand could weigh on the G.O.P. for a generation.

■ In a recent USA Today/Rock the Vote poll, respondents under 35 said they would pick Hillary Clinton over Mr. Trump, 52-19. Those lopsided numbers would be hard to reverse if Mr. Trump were the nominee because he is such a known quantity. When the respondents were limited to whites only, her lead was still substantial, 45-26.

■ A recent Washington Post-ABC News poll showed Mr. Trump and Mrs. Clinton essentially tied among people 40 and older, but with those under 40 preferring her by a nearly 2-to-1 margin.

■ In a national survey led by the Republican pollster Frank Luntz, 1,000 people 18 to 26 were asked: “Out of today’s major political figures, who do you like and respect the most?”

Thirty-one percent chose Bernie Sanders, followed by 18 percent for Barack Obama and 11 percent for Mrs. Clinton. Mr. Trump scored highest among Republicans, at 9 percent. In USA Today, Mr. Luntz called it a “a chasm of disconnection that renders every prominent national Republican irrelevant with the voting bloc that could control campaigns for the next 30 years.”

“but in a national general election he will still have a 35% ceiling.”

Sounding pretty certain of yourself with the general about eight months away - like this election is so predictable.

I have been trying to tell people, Trump ain’t all that popular. He has a loyal base of supporters, yes. But compared to the whole electorate, it’s only a handful. After his base, no else likes him.

He will get crushed in November.

That's why the Republican nominee should be someone popular like John Kasich or Colin Powell, so we won't get crushed in November, correct ?

Trump is hemorraghing support. He knows it. He’s bleeding from his eyeballs and is loosing control of his bowels. It’s ugly and disconcerting to see a classless presidential candidate behave like a teenage girl. His Estrogen levels seem unusually high. For the sake of humanity he needs hospitalisation before he turns into cheap jelly.

Take your pick; cheat Trump out of the nomination and Republican candidates lose 10-20% of their normal votes; it will be a tsunami in reverse with the House, Senate, Presidency, and Supreme Court going Democrat for the foreseeable future. Kiss your guns and religious freedoms goodbye because the liberal Democrats are going to dominate CruzGopE.

Today’s young college kids are thin skinned and very easily offended. They’ve been well versed on Politically Correct speech, and are horrified when people speak like normal people. I’ve seen it in my own grand children and in the children of other family members as well.

They cannot emotionally handle strait talk. I’ve seen articles here on FR about such and I thought it was just a bunch of isolated sissified oddballs, but I’m learning that it’s not!!

They are being taught to be offended in public schools! It never occurs to them that some of their PC BS is offensive as well.

It’s all one sided me-ism..I’m OK and the world is bad.

just...wow.

Young voters are the epitome of LIV's. They are also naive, gullible, fickle, self-absorbed, self-important, self-righteous, and almost entirely humorless. All of this, thanks to an education system for which most of us are taxed exorbitantly, dominated and controlled by liberals.

When you poll the Pajama Boy generation, what would you expect?

These same geniuses in the GOPe gave us first McCain, then Romney, and their ca-ca campaigns, as our candidates in the last two election cycles. And we the base should accept their wisdom why, exactly?

Truth be told, I don’t think there is a single electable Republican we could put up. None that I can think of at least.

Why is this a surprise? Young people aren’t exactly synonymous with wisdom.

Colors are backwards, red is Communist. Nate Silver must be smoking some serious ganga if he thinks AZ, GA and NC would vote for the Butcheress of Benghazi.

An ever growing number of people in this country wouldn’t know decent leadership if it bit them on the ass. And they wouldn’t care, either.

All they want is a steady supply of free sh!t at others’ expense and the rest be damned.

You make the wild-eyed accusation... you back it up. That’s how it works, junior.

Without substantiation, your claim - and others like it - amounts to nothing more than the latest in the litany of laughable BS spewing from your candidate and his worshipping gaggle of acolytes.

Yep - NYT really cares if we make a mistake - so many polls with advice and so much wrong information - pathetic is what pathetic does and I don’t see trump selling his soul to the likes of Romney/Bush/RNC/GOPe as part of his campaign plan....

That’s all you brought, liberal?

Spew BS, then cry, “Google it!” Are you “thinking” you’re back over with your comrades at DU? That’s their tactic.
