Pope washes feet of Muslim migrants, says 'We are brothers and we want to live in peace'

CASTELNUOVO DI PORTO, Italy (AP) — Pope Francis washed and kissed the feet of Muslim, Christian and Hindu refugees Thursday and declared them all children of the same God, as he performed a gesture of welcome and brotherhood at a time of increased anti-Muslim sentiment following the Brussels attacks.

Francis denounced the carnage as a "gesture of war" carried out by blood-thirsty people beholden to the weapons industry during an Easter Week Mass with asylum-seekers at a shelter in Castelnuovo di Porto, outside Rome.

The Holy Thursday rite re-enacts the foot-washing ritual Jesus performed on his apostles before being crucified, and is meant as a gesture of service. Francis contrasted that gesture with the "gesture of destruction" carried out by the Brussels attackers, saying they wanted to destroy the brotherhood of humanity represented by the migrants.

Sure he washed the feet of muslim refugees, but they are like Judas having heard the teacher and reject Him! But the Pope's act, one that will be performed in Churches across the Globe, is meant for true disciples! How many Churches are going to do this gesture on their alters and follow this example of the Pope?!

Well said.

Frankie, you're an idiot if you think the muslims want to live in peace with you.

Pope-a-dope really thinks that Europe should bring them in by the millions. That will be the end of Europe and the church.

So the apostles had no successors?

So the apostles had no successors?

No. The Apostles were chosen by the Lord. They knew Him, heard Him teach(even Paul) and were baptized with the Holy Spirit to build His Kingdom on earth. They did that withing their lifetimes. Scripture in no way supports the notion of apostolic succession. Scripture supports elders, deacons and preacher/evangelists. But they were NOT successors to the Apostles.

10 Jesus answered, “Those who have had a bath need only to wash their feet; their whole body is clean. And you are clean, though not every one of you.”

11 For he knew who was going to betray him, and that was why he said not every one was clean.

12 When he had finished washing their feet, he put on his clothes and returned to his place. “Do you understand what I have done for you?” he asked them.

Christ asks his disciples if they understand, one can certainly argue the Pope is clueless. What if for the faithful who see the near blasphemy of this action as how Jesus saw this action as part of His way to the cross. The Church must be betrayed, ‘great falling away,’ and Jesus washed Judas’ feet anyway. If we view these islamics as like Judas...and the faithful are like the washed disciples, is this just another sign of things to come?

I’m guessing these muslim savages were checked for suicide vests and butcher knives before the Pope did the toe/tongue thing.

Wouldn’t that’ve been profiling and discriminatory?

The Catholic Church has survived bad popes before, and they’ll endure after this one. And Christianity will endure to the end. Christians have and always will be a small minority (narrow gate vs. wide boulevard), no matter what the shades in the Bible maps show. I’m afraid Christians are a minority in most churches! We’ll see that if we are alive when The Church endures serious persecution and only the Christians remain as The Church.

Pope’s lucky one of them didn’t brandish a blade and slit his throat. Very brave.

Everyone knows that this Pope is way too liberal and inserting himself into politics where he should not be.

“Can popes be impeached somehow?”

Impeached?

Deposed?

Displaced?

Like Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI?

Oh, wait...

He was “retired”.

The Pope has a wonderful idea, here. For the Pope, anyway. He should go out into the streets of Rome every night and wash the feet of every Muslim he meets. Oh, and don’t take any body guards, just go alone. The only precaution he should take is to be sure his finger prints are on file, because when his body is found, there will be no head attached. Automatic Sainthood!

Muslims no doubt gloatingly note the Pope has now joined the "House Of Peace (Submission)" as (at the very least) a Dhimmi.

It is simply a matter of time before they smash the Vatican and turn St. Peter's Cathedral into a mosque just like they did the Hagia Sophia in Constantinople.

Jesus and His people are in no way "brother" to Allah (Satan) and his disciples despite what the Pope imagines in his liberal view of Scripture. Washing the feet of the disciples of the spiritual enemies of Jesus in no way changes that.

Creepy freak Francis welcomes the Muslim invasion and destruction of the West. What a deeply evil man. He is the enemy of our children’s future.

As far as I'm concerned there is no such thing as 'valid' apostolic succession.

Sorry, I mistook you for a disgruntled Catholic. I agree, but I wanted a Catholic take on how that works. (There has been at least one pope declared to be a heretic by his successor, so I'm still curious.)

I was a disgruntled Catholic for fifteen years. I left the RCC last year and joined a bible believing church and was finally baptized for the remission of my sins. Alleluia.
