The rules for how Republican delegates are selected which differ in every state could end up turning votes for one candidate into delegates who will support another candidate at the convention.
...
But delegates may not personally support the candidate that voters picked.
In a few states, candidates pick their delegates outright, but in most cases they have less control. Many delegates are elected by party members at local and state conventions. The candidates often conduct parallel campaigns to get their supporters named as delegates.
Here are examples of the variety of methods for selecting delegates used in different states. In fact, many states use two or more methods.

And because of a fractured Conservative base, the divide and conquer strategy guarantees an alternative choice.
And before everyone starts screaming, “then I will stay home” understand that is exactly what the RNC wants you to do.
Face it folks, we were played and we haven’t yet woken up to that fact. And with the Trump\Cruz blood feud continuing unabated, by the time we wake up they will be swearing in Mrs. Convict...I mean Clinton.
I have no idea why people think that the scenario in this article is some kind of trick. If there weren’t some process in place to free delegates from their “binding” at some point, then you’d just have round after round of voting with the same results. That would be pointless.
Isn’t this what Ron Paul tried to do...capture the delegates? At the time, the media claimed it wouldn’t do much, now they’re saying it will possibly influence the outcome?
Not if he gets enough votes to get that magic number of 1,237.
At the risk (99.995 chance) of getting flamed, I'd just point out that the party itself functions democratically. For example, in my local primary, people running for "GOP Committeeman" appear on the ballot. We vote for those people, and then they go to meetings and elect other people, and that happens all over the country. At the end of the process, the elected representatives vote for the head of the party, and elect someone like Priebus. In other words, party leadership is actually chosen by voters.
But I think the vast majority of people don't get informed as to who their committeeman or other designated party rep is. I know I don't.
“I have no idea why people think that the scenario in this article is some kind of trick”
I have no idea how anyone here can sit with a straight face and just shrug their shoulders and say “not a big deal”.
It’s common core political science!
IMO No way, no how will the Republican branch of the Uni-Party endorse Trump as its nominee for POTUS...1,237 or not.
“And before everyone starts screaming, then I will stay home understand that is exactly what the RNC wants you to do.”
I won’t stay home, I will vote, for Hillary and a Straight Democrat ticket. I would want Every Republican destroyed for good and all.
Well, no they can change that too. Read the entire piece.
Only thing about that is that also seems to what the gop-e wants.
That is why every voter should know who the candidates for committee, either state or local, and the delegates (for example in Pennsylvania, where no affiliation is listed by the delegates name), support, so they can ensure that the representatives they elect will support the people and causes they do.
Here’s what the link I posted has about WI delegates
24 district delegates are to be allocated to presidential contenders based on the primary results in each of the 8 congressional districts: each congressional district is assigned 3 National Convention delegates and the presidential contender receiving the greatest number of votes in that district will receive all 3 of that district’s National Convention delegates. [Republican Party of Wisconsin Constitution Article X Section 5.]
18 at-large delegates (10 base at-large delegates plus 5 bonus delegates plus 3 RNC delegates) are to be bound to the presidential contender receiving the greatest number of votes in the primary statewide. [Republican Party of Wisconsin Constitution Article X Section 6.]
Trump meets with RNC chief in DC, days after backing out of pledge
Let's see what happens.
Perhaps because this has been the process for a very long time. If Trump couldn't be bothered to find out how the delegate selection process worked, how it could affect him and be prepared for it, that says more about him than it does about the party or about Cruz.
Context - I don’t particularly want anyone that is running to win. Trump seems the least bad.
But - if they screw over Trump as they plan - Republicans are sure to lose the general election - could be the end of the party - I would expect huge numbers to move to independent or some third party.
My take is that the Republican elite is fine with Hillary winning as long as the corruption can continue. GOPe is now the party of socialism-lite.. as long as the cartels get their way.
What we now have is ‘Cartel Socialism’ - supported by the DemoPulicans ( they say different things to get elected - but have been bought by the same people ).
Who said it’s not a big deal? I didn’t. It is certainly a big deal, because it emphasizes the importance of having an organization in each state that can get people out and into positions where they can be chosen as delegates. If the convention happens and Trump has 1150 delegates, Cruz has 850, and Kasich 250, with other delegates still pledged to the candidates who have dropped out, then on the first ballot nobody wins. What good is it, at that point, to have another round of voting if all of the candidates are going to vote for the same candidates again? You’d end up with the same result.
heh.
