Why is John Kasich still in the campaign? Ted Cruz has to get 87% of the remaining delegates to win the nomination. Donald Trump will never get enough delegates to stop a brokered (read that contested) convention. Controversy everywhere. If it bleeds it leads. But the real story is how the Democratic bosses have stolen the nominating process for Hillary Clinton from the vastly more popular Bernie Sanders, everyones favorite socialist running for president.
Sanders captured three states (Hawaii, Alaska and Washington) -- and by substantial margins --and the next day the talk was about him getting out of the race. I was watching Fox News Sunday and a man of the Left (Juan Williams) and a man of the Right (Jason Riley) concurred on the fact that Sanders is dead meat and is only angling for a big speech at the convention.
I could understand if this guy was drawing 100-person crowds and getting John Kasich-like numbers in primaries, but that is clearly not the case. As of the writing of this column, The Congenital Liar (TCL) has won 1,243 delegates and the kindly, old Socialist has won 975. With the total number necessary to win the nomination being 2,383 delegates, one could easily judge this to be a horse race with a couple of furloughs to go.
Not so in the Democratic Party, where the will of people does not matter. They have what they call superdelegates (which is a nice way to say Party Bosses; or, if you dont like that term, Insiders or better yet The Establishment). TCL leads the Socialist by a current count of 469 to 29 in that count, spreading her lead over him to 708 delegates and making her close to being the nominee.
Just think what might be happening out there without this manipulation of the nomination process. The candidate drawing the bigger crowds and winning quite frequently would be perceived as the one with the momentum toward gaining the party ring. Instead of speaking about Sanders throwing in the towel, the press would be hounding TCL about whether she is going to collapse again like she did in 2008.
What we dont know is how many of the party bosses might change their allegiance to Sanders and tip the nomination his way. He has the crowds and the fundraising, and he performs much better in the general election polling than TLC who has a choo-choo train full of baggage going into the general election. These superdelegates are fickle (after all they are politicians) so we dont know at this point if they are going to change their horse prior to the finish line. Clinton bought them off, so why couldnt Sanders offer them more and buy them his way?
How do you become a superdelegate? Simple; be part of The Establishment. Here is the list:
· A current or former president of the United States
· A current or former vice president of the United States
· A member of Congress, either in the House of Representatives or the Senate
· A governor this includes governors of U.S. territories, like American Samoa, and the mayor of Washington D.C.
· A former majority or minority leader in the Senate
· A former speaker of the House or minority leader in the House of Representatives
· A member of the Democratic National Committee this includes the chair and vice chair of each states Democratic Party, as well as 200 members elected to the DNC throughout the country by state parties
· A former chair of the DNC
Arent these the very people Sanders people are rebelling against? An estimated 714 establishment types are stealing the will of the people. It would be different if Sanders had only 300 delegates from the people, but he is within striking distance of TCL.
Of course, these rules were made by the people who would be designated as superdelegates, for their own benefit to protect their own interests. After all isnt that what the establishment does -- thwart the will of the people? As the Wall Street Journal states One reason Mr. Sanders get no respect is because Democratic elites prefer a nominee who disguises her socialism better than he does. Where is Rodney Dangerfield when you need him?
If the Republicans had a similar process, we might be talking about Jeb Bush cruising to the nomination. But the fix isnt in for the Republicans like it is for the Democrats.
The supporters of Sanders should not take this lying down. They have to fight this distortion of our election and nominating procedures even if it means protests at and in the Democrats Convention. To come this far and have their candidate lose because of backroom deals stealing his rightfully, deserved nomination should not stand.
Its about time the national press takes the Democrats to task for 19th century Boss Tweedy hijacking of their party. Even if it means rioting in the streets of Philadelphia, the press should stop picking the Democrats nominee for them.
“Donald Trump will never get enough delegates to stop a brokered (read that contested) convention.”

Don’t agree.
Democrats are like the members of an abused family. They NEVER discuss the family “secrets” except quietly amongst themselves. Everybody knows Hillary is a felon and totally unsuited for the presidency. Shhhhhhh!
We The People don’t actually have a role in this election stuff. The Big Boys will figure it all out and let us know.
Meanwhile, on the Republican side, it’s slightly more subtle. While Trump can “win” delegates, the Party Bosses are the ones who actually select the delegates in most states, and will select delegates who are hostile to the man they are officially “bound” to (but just on the first ballot).
Political parties are not representative institutions.
What Bruce Bialosky is forgetting is, the “fracture” in the Democrat party is like a scratch when compared to the fracture in the Republican party.
The Democrat’s scratch will heal within minutes of Hillary being crowned the Democrat nominee. But that fracture in the Republican party is deep and wide and has been growing for a generation or longer.
Because political parties are not representative institutions.
Sure we do, but political parties are not representative institutions.
I agree, but that’s the ‘meme’ now for Cruz. It is a dedicated PR campaign that is being run by PR professionals who follow the accepted rules.
When you have a sex scandal for your candidate (to which there is likely a ‘there’ there) the first thing is to get behind a skirt (iCarly). The second priority is to create another accepted ‘truth’ that loyal supporters and media hating Trump can latch onto, that being news about Cruz Team’s expert behind-the-scenes in delegate stealing being the inevitable catastrophic loss for Trump.
Third, latch onto something stupid Trump said, like getting drawn into a Town Hall hit job and being asked about impossible hypothetical scenarios that can be “squirreled.”
Lastly, sum up the equation in an approximate formula that says “he just CAN’T get enough delegates now” and treat it like a closed form theorem.
My thoughts are that we have a candidate that is likely caught in some other women’s knickers and the first time he’s asked to unequivocally state for the record he never cheated, he had to hide behind iCarly’s skirt and let her divert and obfuscate for him.
By Democrats, do you mean to include include about 90% of today’s media in that list??
"No taxation without representation"
The government is controlled by two political parties (one, if you count them carefully). As someone once said, political parties are not representative institutions. I know I'm taxed. I'm pretty sure that I have no representation. At all. Not from the Dems, not from the GOP, not from the "tea party". None of them care what I think. Political parties are not representative institutions.
I think I know how this game eventually ends.
You missed the point completely. The big story here (and topic of the thread) is the Democrat primary. Bernie gets very little respect and press, but he’s backed by significant numbers of Democrats. The Democrat elites will take the election from Bernie no matter what. Did you know he’s actually won the popular vote in some states only to get fewer delegates due to super delegates, aka party insiders beholden to the Clinton political machine? That’s the big story! The so called Democrat Party of the little people, is ruled lock, stock and barrel by insiders!
Exactly; the enemedia doesn’t talk about this for the same reason they never criticized Sultan Obama: They work for the same people. Hillary and the “media” have the same employer.
“But the fix isn’t in for the republicans like it is for the democrats”.
I don’t know about that. I think the fix is in on both sides.
The rigged democratic presidential nomination in which party?
They both have a rigged democratic presidential nomination and the press is complicit.
Trump has thrown a wrench into the works and they are doing everything they can to take him down.
We do know. The answer is none.
The bosses remember Mondale and Dukakis, who were greatly loved by the Dem base and went on to crushing defeats in the general election. They also know the same fate would await Sanders were he the nominee. All they want is to win, and if Queen Athaliah keeps the White House in Democrat hands, nothing else matters.
Why are we reading Bialosky if he’s too stupid to know the answer to this?
