Reminder: Most Republicans Have Voted against Trump
nationalreview.com ^ | April 5, 2016 | Thomas Sowell

Donald Trump’s victories in the Republican primaries may make him seem like a sure winner. But those victories have been achieved by receiving either somewhat less than 40 percent of the votes or somewhat more than 40 percent, but never a majority.

The fragmenting of the Republican vote among many candidates in the primaries made this possible. But victory in the general election for president of the United States in November is going to require a lot more than 40 percent of the votes. And polls consistently show Mr. Trump to be the most negatively regarded of any of the candidates in either party.

In some Republican winner-take-all states, 40 percent of the votes can be enough to get 100 percent of the delegates. This leverage might enable Trump to gain a majority of the delegates needed to become the party’s nominee. But Trump and his supporters want more. They are now talking as if winning a plurality of the delegates ought to be enough to gain him the nomination, despite his failing to get a majority, as required by long-standing rules.

There is a reason why the rules require a candidate for the nomination to receive a majority of the delegates. If you cannot even get a majority of the delegates in your own party, how can you expect to win the November election for president?

Voting against someone is not a vision for America

Did you even read what you just wrote?
Charge the delegates to produce a candidate acceptable to “ the majority” of republicans “regardless of the primary vote “
Why even have a primary vote?
Let’s just take another poll and save suckers the trouble of standing in line for hours and let the oligarchy pick what is best for the little people

Exactly and it is a false premise. In Nevada for the early caucus I voted FOR Huckabee, not against Trump or even Cruz at that point.

This says it all:

They cannot have that confidence in someone who is constantly spouting off with irresponsible rhetoric — some of which has to be walked back by his apologists — or someone whose snap judgments about complex and weighty issues betray a superficial knowledge, if not sheer ignorance.

Bravo for preserving the status quo

And even more Republicans have voted against Kaisch and Cruz. A remarkably stupid argument.

You would expect better from the so called brilliant Dr. Sowell. MOST Republicans have AGAINST every candidate who has been in the race. But...more Republicans have voted for Donald than anyone else in the race!

I love your logic!
Oh, wait. Cruz + all the other candidates who’ve come and gone has beaten Trump EVERY time. Trump has never gone over 50%.
Wisconsin was a slaughter using this theory.

Assuming that you’re still a paying member of the RNC don’t get all snooty with me about hiding behind the GOPe, vanderkook.

You Trumper thumpers all think you’re some kind of revolutionaries but what you look like is a bunch hyperventilating, hysterical girls at a Justin Bieber concert.

I think I could go in circles with you all day. Trump supporters want to overturn the GOP not just the GOPe. Im not a fan of throwing the baby out with the bath water. Like it or not we have a two party system. Trump knew he couldn’t get enough support to go third party. When he chose to run in the confines of the Republican Party he took on all the rules of the party. He could have been so close to the majority right now if he and his supporters would have run the right campaign, but he is running it like a whining entitled liberal with a band of scandal monger yes men in tow. Of course, that’s my opinion.

Ted Cruz did not win 20% of the GOP vote in Florida, Ohio and Virginia

He did not win a County

Which means he did not win a delegate. Mr. Sowell name the President who lost those three States?

We have a primary vote to choose delegates to go to convention and represent the whole party. Every republican’s vote should count in the primary. You want the majority of people who didn’t vote for Trump to have their votes shut down when they will have the majority of delegates if Trump doesn’t get to 1237 before the convention.

“Talk to us next week after Cruz gets smashed in NY.”

I’m pretty sure that the clip of Cruz’ “New York values” statement will be flooding the airwaves.

Oh, BTW, Cruz is brilliant. Hmmm... maybe not so much.

yes your opinion and the establishment welcomes it.

I want a massive clean out of all of them,. They know their gravy train would come to an end if Trump got in and that is why you see them fighting Trump like you have never seen them fight the left.
