Charles Hurt: Ted Cruz Is the ‘Henchman and Handmaiden of the Establishment to Block Donald Trump’
Breitbart ^ | April 7, 2016 | John Hayward

Posted on 04/07/2016 8:47:03 AM PDT by maggief

Drudge Report editor and Washington Times columnist Charles Hurt took a look at the state of the Republican presidential primary on Thursday’s edition of Breitbart News Daily with SiriusXM host Stephen K. Bannon.

Hurt said the Republican Establishment loves talking about convention rules, floor fights, and the fine points of delegate behavior because “it allows them to avoid a far deeper and more important problem they have, and that is that they are completely out of touch with Republican voters.”

“They opened this huge avenue for Donald Trump, who isn’t like them, who’s an outsider, who is flamboyant, and is a force unlike anybody else,” he continued. “They allowed him to walk in, and the guy was one hundred percent in tune with voters on everything.”

(snip)

“Having covered Ted Cruz, and what he has done in the Senate ever since he has been here, to see him now as the henchman and handmaiden of the Establishment to block Donald Trump?” Hurt marveled, scoffing at the suggestion that the Establishment is actually moving in Cruz’s direction on the issues or that they would allow him to win the White House and become the nominal leader of the Republican Party.

“It is not going to work,” Hurt declared. “All he is doing is, he’s doing their work to prevent Donald Trump from clinching the nomination.”

That is exactly why he is no bowing and kneeling before the GOPe...

Please provide two or three examples of "bowing and kneeling." If this is happening, you should be able to provide many more than two or three, but that should suffice for the sake of proving your point.

Trump has spent 40 years funding that DC cartel.

THAT 40 years tells the world he knows the neighborhood, sport.

TRUMP isn’t the mule, here.

Cartel Cruz has that sole distinction.

Please cite even one fact, the least bit of evidence to back up this most asinine of statements. I didn't think so. Shut your piehole.

Just to set the record straight though, Trump is not my icon. He is just the person I support to become our next President. I used to be a very strong Cruz supporter that actually thought Trump was a joke. Who slowly became a Trump supporter once I saw he was running for real. His one quality that I admit I do admire is his ability to shake off criticism and keep going forward, often times proving his position was the correct position.

Ted on the other hand has shown me that he is power hungry and will do anything in that goal to obtain power. I am no longer blinded by his demonstrated conservatism, for I think a lot of that is a false face put on to attract conservatives to him. Problem is he doesn't have appeal beyond conservatives. That's why this conservative has deserted him.

No, he’s just the guy who has spent his life funding everything we hate about Washington.

Cruz meeting with Charles Foster (advocate for immigration reform and previous Bush backer), also with Austin Barbour (Mississippi GOPe advocate who engineered the Thad Cochran debacle)

Foster brings in eight Bush backers to Cruz.

Cruz hiring of Neil Bush...

Lindsey Graham, for some reason, backing Cruz...(What did Cruz do for Lindsey?)

Not true. He has spent his life investing in America and American jobs (even his overseas investments/companies create jobs HERE).

Unlike beady Teddy....who has spent his ENTIRE CAREER working FOR Washington....living off of the taxpayer. NEVER once creating single job OR covering a payroll.

No thanks to the DC Culture/Cabal CRuz!!!

Does anyone actually read the articles anymore? This is what it says:

Cruz, and what he has done in the Senate ever since he has been here, to see him now as the henchman and handmaiden of the Establishment to block Donald Trump?” Hurt marveled, scoffing at the suggestion that the Establishment is actually moving in Cruz’s direction on the issues or that they would allow him to win the White House and become the nominal leader of the Republican Party.

The title of this thread is misleading; Hurt is saying that it is laughable to consider Cruz the henchman and handmaiden of the Establishment. Cruz and the Establishment are not coming closer together on issues and policy. Cruz's emergence as the most viable non-Trump candidate puts him in the position of possibly stopping Trump, which is also what the GOPe wants. But the GOPe doesn't want Cruz only slightly less fervently because he has been a big thorn in their side in the Senate and would upturn their apple cart as President.

And my story is the same, but in reverse - I loved Trump's plainspokenness until I realized he was a rank populist utterly and completely without guiding core principles, a man-child who tips the table over when things don't go his way. Cruz is not without his problems, but his platform suits me best and as hard as it is for some to understand I believe that, between the two, Cruz's integrity is far and away the most solid.

There's no middle ground here, which is why its senseless to argue who's right and who's wrong.

I’d like to see the pictures of the bowing and/or kneeling. Just meeting with someone doesn’t qualify.

Right, like funding Mitch McConnell’s campaign in 2014.

Glad you brought that up, Durbin.

As a matter of fact, cRuz DID help fund Midge McConnell’s campaign. His own campaign donated $250,000 to McConnell’s NRSC....which in turn helped both McConnell and Thad win their tight re-election races :(

That’s another thing we can “thank” Lyin’ Ted for.

Well I honestly think you need to research Ted Cruz more carefully, because he is not who he portrays himself to be.

There is no way he could win the general election, especially if he cannot win the Republican nomination process. He is a very gifted political animal, and he knows all of the levers to favor him, but in the end he will be discarded in favor of an establishment player.

One thing you ignore when assessing Trump is how he has communicated his love for this country, and consistently so for decades. Yes some of his past associations, and even deeds, leave a bad taste in my mouth, but he is the best option available to us to create real change in this country, and in my opinion it will be a positive change. Ted in reality is more of the same as we have had since Reagan left office.
