Poll: Hefty Slice Of Virginia’s GOP Will Bolt If Trump Is Nominee

By Laura Vozzella April 7

RICHMOND — Nearly a third of Virginia Republicans will vote for Hillary Clinton, pick a third-party candidate or sit out the election if Donald Trump is the GOP’s nominee for president, a new poll finds.

Democrats in the key swing state are far less likely to defect if Clinton is the nominee, with just 9 percent saying they would vote for someone else or stay home on Election Day, according to a Christopher Newport University survey released Thursday.

Trump’s “loyalty gap,” as CNU researchers dubbed it, could cost the celebrity developer the race in Virginia, where the survey finds the former secretary of state leads Trump 44 percent to 35 percent.

The poll, conducted CNU’s Wason Center for Public Policy, comes just two days after Republicans and Democrats alike expressed dissatisfaction with their parties’ respective front runners by handing Wisconsin primary victories to Republican Ted Cruz and Democrat Bernie Sanders.

The CNU poll was designed to see how that intraparty angst would play out in Virginia if Trump and Clinton ultimately face off in the general election.

“We found a real loyalty gap,” Quentin Kidd, director of the Wason Center, said in a written statement. “If Donald Trump turns out to be the Republican nominee, it’s clear that a very significant proportion of Republican voters will either defect or stay home. But it looks like most Democrats — even those who backed Bernie Sanders in the March primary — would support Clinton.”

All these polls and I have never been polled. If I were, I would expect something like this:

Hello, quick survey: given all he unfavorable info out there about Trump, how do you view him.

ME: I am voting for him.

Poller: really, well, let me put you down as undecided.

ME: But i am not, I am voting Trump. Hey, I recognize your voice...Is that you Karl?? I hear the ink board in the background.

Poller: ah, no, who is this Karl guy you mixed me up with?

ME; You.

Poller: bye.

Rubio would be out of government next year unless Trump offers him the VP inteturn for his 170 delegates. He will jump at the chance. It solidifies FL for Trump. It helps with establishment voters. He can appoint Rubio to work on the immigration issue and help himself with Hispanics. Win, win if he wants to be Prez.

Excellent. They’re the RCN Republicans.

Who needs them. We don’t need them there, and we don’t need them here.

About 33% of Trump supporters are saying NO TRUMP NO VOTE AND NO MONEY EVER. The difference is we mean it. We’re never voting for the Felon scumbag or the Communist, just not voting so the down ballot GOP can drop dead.
JEBROMNEYBOBMCCAINJOHNRYANTEDKASICH none of them are on our to do list.

Looks like Trump actually gets 67% of those who will defintely and likely vote for him.

Q6. As you know, Donald Trump is currently leading the Republican Party’s nomination race. Assuming Donald Trump is the Republican Party’s nominee for this fall’s presidential election which of these statements comes closest to your view? asked only of people that voted in the March 1 Republican Primary, N=453

I will definitely vote for him 43

I will probably vote for him 24

I will vote for the other party’s candidate 13

I will vote for a 3rd Party Candidate 13

I will not vote in the election 3

Q7. In a brokered convention, the party may bypass the candidate that received the most votes in the primary elections and award the party’s nomination to a different candidate. Do you favor or oppose the use of a brokered convention to prevent Donald Trump from becoming the Republican Party’s nominee for this fall’s presidential election?

Asked of Republicans and Independents who lean Republican, N=523

Favor 36

Oppose 57

No Opinion 6

DK/ref 1

This is Day #1 of the 100 Day War Against Trump. All these articles popping up on Fr are the work of cruz sycophants engaged in that war. The first line seems to be discourage Trump supporters. Having none of it!

Of course, Virginia is a DC establishment puke state that’s run by organized crime. Gee, on second thought, do we have a state that isn’t controlled by the DC establishment and organized crime?

If Trump is the nominee, I plan to hold my nose and vote for him, just like I held my nose and voted for Romney in 2012 and held my nose and voted for McCain in 2008.

I wish I had any reason to believe that Trump is any more conservative than Romney or McCain. I don’t.
