Ted Cruz Now Says 'We Are Headed to a Contested Convention'

Sen. Ted Cruz for the first time said he believes the Republican Party is headed to a contested convention.

Cruz had previously called a contested convention likely and that it seemed the party was heading in that direction. But after a disappointing third-place loss in New York Tuesday, the Texas Republican is no longer saying he plans to beat front-runner Donald Trump at the ballot box.

"We are headed to a contested convention,” Cruz said in an interview with Philadelphia talk-radio personality Chris Stigall this morning. “At this point, nobody is getting 1,237. Donald is going to talk all the time about other folks not getting to 1,237; he’s not getting there either. None of us are getting to 1,237.”

And he’s right about one thing. After the New York primary, it is now mathematically impossible for Cruz to clinch the Republican nomination using bound or pledged delegates before the July convention in Cleveland.

And Supposed Trump does get the nomination? You are not suggesting that he won’t make use of the Establishment? Back in 2008, Obama had an organization in place in all 50 states, one which worked parallel with the Party and the unions. What has Donald done.? He chose not even to compete in Colorado and Wyoming. His train -wreck a minute style has not brought him as far as he hoped. He leads a faction. Not even a majority yet, except in NY which is a blue state where Republicans are a small minority.

Do you even realize, since Ted Cruz has joined in with the crooked GOP establishment, Ted Cruz now has the whole GOPe nationwide apparatus at his disposal? Keep blaming Trump for that, those are just leftist/GOPe talking points to keep people like you duped. Open your freakin' eyes!

It isn’t just TC’s wishin’ and a’hopin’. This encapsulates the unalterable mindset of the ineffectual and soon-to-be-replaced leaders of the GOP/RNC wing of the Democrat Party.

I guess Ted is just following the old adage: “Never, ever give up!”

I note that Hillary received almost three times the number of votes that Trump did in NY.

Closed primary in NY. The Dems far outnumber the Reps in registration.

Hillary received 1,054,083 votes with 99% reporting. Trump received 524,932 votes with 99% reporting. So exactly how is it that Hillary received "almost three times the number of votes that Trump did in NY"? Are you using some sort of new math?

Yeah, his only reason now for staying in is to stop Trump. What an A-Hole. And to think, only 5 months ago he was saying he would not attack any fellow republican in the race and he would support any of the republican candidates over Hillary Clinton.

But his mission is now to stop Trump and hand the election to Hillary.

There’s a stink of Romney behind him. But Cruz is still culpable. He’s sniffing the stink and letting it spread through the GOP.

Like Texas Commissioner of the Land office George P. Bush, he’s not earning what he gets paid as senator either.

Go back to the Senate, Ted, and try some more on all those things you want to do—like defund Planned Parenthood.

I have a friend who calls to tell me how disappointed she is with Trump, whom she voted for in the primary. She can't stop complaining about his mouth, his hands, can't-he-act-more-presidential?, he never talks about specific policies, etc, etc, etc.

Well, yesterday, she calls me whining that Trump is getting taken for a ride by Cruz in the delegate count behind the scenes, saying Cruz is snatching delegates right out from under Trump's nose. And bitch, bitch, bitch, ad infinitum.

So I challenged her to pick at better candidate than Trump from those remaining. She despises Cruz, even though she is an evangelical conservative. She laughed at Kasich. She questioned whether I was serious when I ask if she would vote for Bernie. And it wasn't just no, but hell no, for Hillary.

So I told her I guess she was stuck with Trump and she replied, "Yeah, but I hate him too!"

And that folks, is where I think we find ourselves in this 2016 election. In fairness and full disclosure, I support Trump.

The Establishment doesn’t want either man. Cruz is a tackler, not a running back. Watch them sit on their hands this fall, just as they did when Goldwater ran.

That's what I was trying to say, Ted Cruz is helping the GOPe try to get who they want. That's why Ted Cruz needs to drop out of the race. If Cruz had any decency, he would but through this campaign, we have found out he is not a decent man or candidate.

So Lincoln wasn’t elected? The process is generally the same as it has been since Lincoln’s time. Wyoming had a caucus system not very different from that of Iowa except that in Iowa the people are personally much more involved because of all the national attention. If Iowa were not allowed to go first, participation in the caucus would go way down. In the primary states, such as Florida, relatively few people get personally involved until the season begins and they hear the hype on TV and now the social media.

Maybe you should look up this quote too.

Trump is NO conservative. He’s a self-dealing charlatan and he’s got a lot of fall-for-anything chump types fooled.

I haven’t seen any posts removed.

That’s a pretty lame opus. Can you give us a little more, to play with?

Like Newton Gingrich riding to victory with GA and neighboring SC only, Kasich will try to do the same with OH and maybe neighboring IN!

Ted’s headed to a contested convention with an increasingly powerful front runner , and that that will tear the GOP apart

Ted is in this purely out of patriotic concerns for America of course

And his wife and kids of course

Now , everyone who wants to join the Calgary stampede, send Ted $5, $10 whatever....

Because buying delegates ain’t cheap and of course, it’s all for America, right?

I started supporting him, and now I’m ending up to despise him as well.

Right there with you.

I don’t despise him but I’ll never vote for him again. For anything.

I’m eagerly looking forward to both news pundits and conservatives confusing a contested convention with a brokered one over and over again.

Ted will prove that Trump is Hillary and the Left’s Plan B that Bill talked Don into. He has to wait until right before the convention to do it.
