Trump: I would change GOP platform on abortion
CNN ^ | 04/21/16 | David Wright

Posted on 04/21/2016 10:32:44 AM PDT by writer33

Donald Trump said Thursday he would change the Republican Party platform's position on abortion to include exceptions for rape, incest and the life of the mother.

Trump made the remarks during a town hall on the "Today" show on NBC on Thursday morning when host Savannah Guthrie asked him about abortion exceptions.

"The Republican platform every four years has a provision that states that the right of the unborn child should not be infringed," Guthrie said. "And it makes no exceptions for rape, for incest, for the life of the mother. Would you want to change the Republican platform to include the (abortion) exceptions that you have?"

"Yes, I would. Yes, I would. Absolutely," Trump said. "For the three exceptions, I would."

Currently, the Republican platform abortion policy reads: "We assert the sanctity of human life and affirm that the unborn child has a fundamental individual right to life which cannot be infringed."

God you lie so easily. It’s like nothing to you.

“Really!! And he also attack North Carolina for the bathroom bill.”

Trump didn’t ATTACK NC for the legislation. He was asked and he disagreed and stated why.

WTH is wrong with you?

Well, one way or another he’s the presumptive nominee. We’ll need to keep up the pressure from the right through the fall.

We can’t risk a third Clinton administration.

So this is new? funny hes been saying this for years. What a fail on the Cruzers part.

Cruzers sadly seem to have allowed themselves to be reduced to the level of flies on scat. Whenever someone stirs them up, they all react together and then eventually settle down.

It’s so sad. So many bright, wonderful Freepers who do love their country,,,and they choose Cruz. I don’t get it. I really don’t.

...and you seriously suggest that people are upset about this out of simple BOREDOM?

Like I said, I don't support the abortion exceptions. However, I'm aware that many Republican politicians like GW Bush had this very same pro-life position and I don't remember there being a reaction like this. As for the bathroom thing, I also don't agree with Trump but he's clearly thinking of it as a businessman. Having to build three bathrooms is a difficult thing for businesses. I just think it's all getting blown out of proportion. And with Prince dying today, it's probably going to get mostly lost in the shuffle.

There is no way in hell I would ever support a candidate that says my wife and I would have to keep and raise a child because my wife was gang raped by a group of Muslims or anyone for that matter.

I don't know of anyone who would say you would have to keep and raise the child - adoption is a wonderful option in a case like that.

I am a crossover voter.

Surprise, surprise - anyone who couldn't tell you were not a conservative from your posting history would have to be brain dead.

>>But I’m still a Constitutional Conservative and when the primary happens here in CA, I am going to vote for the one true Constitutional Conservative on the ballot, Ted Cruz!

That’s good! Which Constitution are you Conservative for? The original plus Bill of Rights? The one with all the Amendments including the tax on a man’s labor and popularly elected Senators? What has Cruz said he would do to roll back the Constitution to what it once was? What is his plan to employ underemployed so we can use the 10th Amendment to end federal handouts?

Well there was the tax increase thing, and the “path to citizenship”, so maybe those constituencies are a little miffed? Just guessing.

“Health of mom expanded to mean psychological, for example”

So the health of the mom should not ever be considered?

Let the heathens rage.

I’m against abortion, but I can’t really care about everybody else.

The abortion issue is just a way to elect democrats as long as republicans must kowtow to groupthink.

Glad our founding fathers didn’t get distracted by this.

“The point is, Republicans dumped traditional values decades ago and they have all been lying to get Christian votes.

Trump just tells the truth.”

Apparently the pure holier-than-thou Conservatives will accept just certain language, even if it’s not true.

Sad.

That’s a good question and I have no good answers. A few years ago Iwould have argued that it’s all about the courts. But Roberts has cured me of that.

"Even Dr. Carson addressed the mother’s life exception, and with modern medicine it’s really not even an issue anymore."

He is correct. But intervention is not inexpensive. Mr. Trumps policy statement is fairly good and is in progress for the General Election. It is his TEAM effort and is being refined. Compare "Life of the Mother" to the Left's "Health of the Mother". Health (including mental) accounts for 90 % of the abortions. Another refinement is the LIFE of the mother should be signed off on by a certified OBGYN. Shame on evil Cruz ppl for trying to destroy good intentions. The woman & family, affected, can be let it up to their conscience. (With sadness.)

God Bless!

>> I would just like this moment to sink in for all the Trumpers to realize either: A) They are suckers or B) They are not conservatives.

Respectfully, those two things are not mutually exclusive.

In fact, in most cases B) led to A); not being grounded in conservative principle, they were primed to take Trump’s bait.

-—Begin by banning third-trimester abortions and the particularly odious partial birth abortions, Trump opposes both, and that’s a good first day.
.
.
.
THAT is where the discussion should be, because most Americans agree with this.

When people on here or other places start spouting off about how “God says even rape victims should give birth, God gave you that baby and God says you must keep it” and crap like that, people just look at the right and figure they are kookoo for coco puffs.

They let the LEFT control the conversation. If we want to win, WE have to control the conversation. Don’t deviate from those two points you mentioned. Just stick to our guns and not let the left get into dividing issues like aborting the severely handicapped. If we can end 3rd trimester and partial birth that’s a win.

The left measures their victories in inches. Look at it people, they always push a little more a little more. The right? They have to have a major victory all or nothing. That’s not how you win wars anymore. You win them in inches.

Abortion has killed more Americans than Islam and illegal immigrants combined. Many, many times over, in fact.

Yeh, tell it to the victims of ISIS right now. And their families.

The left/libertarians not only get to define their own parties, now they get to define the erstwhile “conservative” party also.

He said they made a mistake and are alienating people and he said transgendered people should be able to use the restroom of their choice.

Amen to that. Anymore it's a veritable state subsidy on adultery.

I wonder if the folks attacking Trump over this exceptions-to-abortion issue, are the same folks who were angry with Trump a few weeks ago for answering the reporter’s question that if abortions were illegal a woman who had an abortion should face legal penalties?
