The Donald Kneels to Political Correctness on Transgender Issues
PJ Media ^ | April 21, 2015 | Tyler O'Neil

Posted on 04/21/2016 7:13:56 PM PDT by Kaslin

On Thursday, Republican frontrunner Donald Trump took the liberal stance on transgender restroom access. Media outlets can call it "moderate" all they want, but it is inescapable that Trump defended biological men using women's restrooms. The Donald is not exactly hesitant to offend people, and transgressing political correctness has been one of the centerpieces of his campaign. He even declared in the past that he would protect Christians and social conservatives, but this acceptance of "transgender rights" may be a sign that he has started pandering to the "center" for the general election.

Conservatives have long warned that Trump is unpredictable, that he would make a horrible Republican standard bearer because he does not represent the classical issues of that party. Now it seems The Donald might be proving them right -- after most of the socially conservative voters in the South already backed the real estate tycoon.

Trump attacked the North Carolina law which reserved multiple-person restrooms in schools and government facilities to only those people of the appropriate biological sex. This law was intended to protect the privacy of girls and boys, men and women, but many companies attacked it as discriminatory. Rather than defending the law -- as those who find The Donald a champion of conservative or politically incorrect values might expect -- Trump trashed it.

"North Carolina did something that was very strong and they're paying a big price and there's a lot of problems," said Trump, who would have left things as they were. "There have been very few complaints the way it is. People go, they use the bathroom that they feel is appropriate, there has been so little trouble."

This stance sounds moderate -- Trump is arguing that there should be no restrictions -- but in reality, it is a complete surrender to a small, vocal minority. If public restrooms must be one way or the other, why side with the infinitesimal minority of people who identify with the sex opposite the one they were born with, rather than the millions of men and women who are comfortable with their birth sex?

Why can we not have more single-serve, unisex restrooms, to avoid the issue entirely? Trump attacked the idea of separate transgender restrooms as a waste of money -- he's right -- but he did not address this solution, which many restaurants have already adopted.

In matter of fact, Trump is incorrect that there has been "so little trouble." Women who claim to have been abused as children are now vehemently opposing the opening of girls' and women's restrooms to biological men. When the New York Times attacked Americans concerned about this issue as effectively insane, controlled by "transgender bathroom hysteria," these disenfranchised people took to Twitter to express their outrage. Regardless of what Trump or the New York Times says, many Americans are concerned about this, and it's not just because of "transphobia."

Nevertheless, The Donald was quite explicit in his support for transgender access. He said that if Caitlyn Jenner (born Bruce Jenner) walked into Trump Tower, The Donald would let her use the restroom of her choice.

If @Caitlyn_Jenner walked into Trump Tower, what bathroom would @RealDonaldTrump suggest she use? #TrumpTODAY https://t.co/E6jLyif6ls

The Federalist's Ben Domenech once explained why social conservatives in the South might back Donald Trump. Domenech said these voters "have no illusions about [Trump's] unbelief. The difference is that while they believe Ted Cruz and Marco Rubio would be one more round of good soldiers for their cause, they think Donald Trump would be a tank."

But when it comes to actually fighting for conservative values, Trump ends up on the other side. Indeed, in a classic battle involving political correctness, he falls neatly in line. The Donald might not be a tank, but rather a Trojan horse.

You’re an idiot.

I am sorry that our discussion became heated. To me all of your arguments appear insincere to me. You are elevating an off the cuff remark that is completely trivial and has no practical repercussions to a level that is not justified in any way.

It is stupid to add more laws to the books over things that are not important when current laws about important matters are not being enforced. I will repeat for you... in the nearly 60 years my wife and I have lived and raided children in a liberal hotbed neither of us has ever noticed a “transgender” person in a public restroom. None of our friends has ever complained to us about seeing a transgender person in a public restroom. I asked you if you have ever seen a “transgender” person in a public restroom. You didn't reply so I assume that you haven't either. You are making a big deal out of NOTHING!

Lets both try to tone it down a notch or two. This is not something that is worth getting worked up over. We should be getting worked up over preventing the Democrats from getting several liberal Supreme Court picks and destroying the country. Cruz started strong, but like you he is now off message and is only harming himself and his reputation.

It is not 60 years ago, not 30 years ago, not even 10 years ago. The LGBT push for tolerance has actually been a push for acceptance and even acceptance has now morphed into a requirement for affirmation. It is the latter that has now become functionally problematic and why you are seeing push back to actually set limits.

Have I seen transexuals? Absolutely. Do I purport to instantly know who is and isn’t? No I do not.

But a woman dressed as a lumberjack using a male restroom toilet isn’t really the issue. Neither is the total cross dressing man who uses the female toilet.

The problem is that the asserted “human rights” laws being put forth mean that I cannot stop a man, any man from hanging out in the women’s toilet or dressing room, just as long as he states that he is transexual.

You say its a nonissue, I say it was a nonissue; however, now every perv has a get out of trouble free card.

Tell me how you deal with the following. A man walks into the female locker room at a gym like LA Fitness. He just leans up against the wall and watches. Do you ask him to leave? If he says he’s transexual, you are now violating his rights.

Let’s say he really does feel he is a woman, but is still anatomically a man. He now strips down naked in the women’s locker room next to you, your daughter, granddaughter, etc. Any issue with that? That is his asserted right as a self-identifying transexual.

So, you ARE working against Donald Trump OPENLY, by repeating the attacks of slimeballs like the overpaid Media hitman Matt Lauer.

Got it, SimpleMan.

Your efforts are not going to resurrect RoadKill Cruz, run over by the Trump White House Express.

Ted Cruz: "Make Bathrooms Great Again!"

Donald Trump: "Make America Great Again!"

I found out a few months ago that I wasted brain cells by engaging with SimpleMan.

He's a LastWorder, and he's NEVER wrong - at least in his simple mind.

And he appears to have a SUPREME case of butthurt about any issue he's chosen for that particular day's FR Last Stand.

Taking a few flippant comments, to avoid getting drawn into a local issue, as to whether the State of North Carolina should over-rule the city of Charlotte on a bathroom access issue does not add up to "Kneeling" to "political correctness."

While I, personally, strongly disagree with what Donald said, it is not a Federal issue; it is not a campaign issue; and wasting band with trying to make it into more than it was, serves no Conservative purpose, at this moment in time.

Now that the Republican nominating process is coming to a conclusion, it would be far better for all Conservatives to rally around the presumptive nominee. We have a job to do, if America is to survive the connivances of Obama & Mrs. Clinton, and the bathroom rights of hermaphrodites in Charlotte pales as an issue compared to immigration, trade pacts & Federal meddling in public schools across America.

Really it does.

I find this whole situation confusing.

Of course, no one wants creepy men stalking little girls in bathrooms. Can we please acknowledge that?

However, North Carolina law would require this person to use the ladies room. And that doesn't seem right either.

I mean, I don't want this person peeing next to little girls, either.

That’s nice that you have an opinion about where people should and shouldn’t pee, but with transexual protection laws you really have no say in the issue. Any man or woman can do whatever they want and all they have to say it “I’m transexual”.

When a person has a self-choice issue that requires that either they must take extra steps or that 99.99% of society must conform to their wishes, I say that they need to conform not society.

If a person has a penis, they shouldn’t get naked in front of people who don’t. For true transexuals, this shouldn’t pose a huge problem. However, stating in law that anyone who identifies as a transexual has a right to do as they please does pose a problem.

My basic position is that if the pictured individual decides he wants to pee next to my granddaughter, I'm going to "dissuade" him from his momentary "want".

Anybody intervening will get the same treatment. :)

Now, we can move on from Matt Lauer's Trump trap, and start discussing real matters that affect America.

Oh, BTW - never forget to remind the steely-eyed Social Justice Warriors that their little plan for importing lots of Muslims will sort this shoit out in a hurry, from the rooftop of the nearest tall building...

They have the power to create a bill. Trump does not.

Nice straw man argument. No one is saying Trump has unilateral power to change anything. But this is very revealing about the depth of his commitment to conservative values (or lack therof). In this case, he is trashing a state that has tried to stand against the PC crowd and protect the privacy and safety of women and children in public restrooms. They passed a bill - Trump opposes it. So we must assume if Congress passed a bill like this, a President Trump would veto it.

If he says he’s transexual, you are now violating his rights.

Thank you for voicing your valid concerns. I do not believe that “Transsexuals” currently have the rights that you say they now do. I have never had any experiences in any way similar to your hypothetical question; and to be honest I do not expect to in the near future.

I can however see this type of thing becoming reality if Hillary gets to nominate three justices to the Supreme Court. That is the real issue here... If we do not unite behind someone who can actually compete in battle ground states, can attract voters from the other side, and stand up against the type of nonsense that you are now starting to perceive, then the future you imagine could easily become a reality.

We do not have the luxury of bickering among one another at this time. Whether people are ready to admit it or not, the lot has already been cast. Am I happy about everything Trump has said or done? Of course not. But Trump is now the presumptive nominee. Even with all the scheming, Cruz actually does not have any realistic path to the nomination. If Cruz were somehow able to steal the nomination despite having 50% less delegates and millions less votes, there is no way he could actually win. The longer we drag this destructive feuding out the more likely it will be that the Democrats will win.

My point is that this issue is confusing. It's not something that I've ever given much thought to, but now that it's in the campaign, I don't know what to think.

You said, "However, stating in law that anyone who identifies as a transexual has a right to do as they please does pose a problem."

But the North Carolina law says that people MUST use the bathroom that matches their gender on birth certificate. For the person pictured above, that person MUST use the ladies room under North Carolina law.

Let's set aside, for the moment, whether I morally approve of sex changes. I don't.

However this individual doesn't belong in the ladies room.

We do not have the luxury of bickering among one another at this time.

I concur, which is why I thought Trump's statements undercutting Republicans in NC was both needlessly decisive and insulting. Indeed, one of my major issues with Trump has been his propensity to toss fire bombs inside our own house.

The presumption in most of the responses to me is that I'm trying to tear down Trump to promote Cruz. That is a simplistic take-away. I am not sold on Trump the new conservative. As with any Republican, if Trump doesn't follow through, then what's the point? Like any Republican I expect Trump to stand up to political correctness, not beat me over the head with it. Trump should not get a pass to do such things.

I wouldn’t say he’s kneeling to them. He just doesn’t think it’s worth losing an elec t ion over. He needs the independents yo win. In the grand scheme of things, we have bigger fish to fry. Hillary’s darling media will have her back in the general election. No one can take on the media like trump. We have to look at the big picture.

Geez, it was a Matt "Liar" Lauer Trump trap.

Lauer gets paid $12,000 bucks an hour to spring political traps on the likes of Trump [AND Cruz].

Lauer could hire 2 or 3 of you for a year for what he makes in a day.

They pay him that much for a REASON.
