AG: More than 30 interviewed, no arrests in Pike County shootings

Attorney General Mike DeWine said in a 9 p.m. news conference that he would not say there is a "person of interest." He did say many of those who were interviewed were in Chillicothe.

Pike County Sheriff Charles Reader said they believe the killer or killers are still on the loose and should be considered armed and dangerous.

All victims were shot in their heads.

Seven victims are adults, and one victim was a 16-year-old male, DeWine said in a Friday afternoon news conference.

DeWine said that the victims were shot "execution-style." All the victims are believed to be members of the Rhoden family, and they were found in four homes, Reader said.

Someone called 911 to report two dead people at a home on the 4000 block of Union Hill Road just before 8 a.m., Reader said in a Friday news conference.

Deputies responded to that scene and checked two nearby addresses on Union Hill Road where they found five more bodies.

In total, seven people were found shot dead at three Union Hill Road addresses and one person was found in a home on Dry Fork Road later Friday afternoon.

According to DeWine, all the victims were shot in the head, some while they were in their beds, indicating they were shot while sleeping, authorities said.

"It's heartbreaking," DeWine said. "The one mom was killed in her bed with the 4-day-old right there."

Well, I’m guessing it wasn’t moonshine that was involved

My niece lives in Peebles, OH in Pike County. About 2 years ago, they arrested illegal Mexicans in a woods - they were gorwing a huge crop of marijuana. They had lived in those woods for several years. I suspect this might have been drug related.

Discharging any firearm inside a house is so loud that if these victims were shot in the head in their beds suppressors had to be used by someone.

Sounds like a family or maybe a Cartel or even an islamic deal. Cutting off a family like that is an extreme measure.

A Cartel would have killed the children, I’m thinking a family member.

MHGinTN :" ..victims were shot in the head in their beds suppressors had to be used by someone."

I tend to agree about suppressors - it seems like a revenge killing .
However , if I recall, I think that it was stated that the 4 day old, and a 16 month old were spared.
So the perp couldn't be identified by any of the victims.

Ear protection or the killers just didn’t care. Possibly suppressors

My nephew knows the man said he was nice guy but mentioned that this was girlfriend vs wife so maybe former husband or boyfriend. He had done drugs in past supposedly.

I live in the next county over. My wife works in Pike county. The word is locally that one of the people shot, a teenage boy, ratted out another teenage boy and he was busted by his parents for drugs so he got revenge by killing the rat and all his family.

Seems far-fetched to me but the local pillbillies/heroin freaks claim it is true. We shall see.

I don't see how the explanation for this can be anything other than "far-fetched"

Too bad they are not in Waco, Waco just arrests everyone, puts them all in Jail and places a million dollar bail on everyone. Then one year later no one knows any facts including the defense lawyers.

You live out in the country like this, you must have dogs. Especially dogs that bark at strangers.

There’s no way someone could break into my house without the dogs going bonkers and waking me up. In fact, anyone on the property at night (or daytime) will freak them out.

When they go nuts at night barking, I arm myself and go investigate. Usually it’s a possum or coon on the porch, but once I believe it was someone attempting a break and entry. Dogs scared ‘em off before I got a chance to shoot ‘em, dang it!

Exactly. And oddly enough, some victims were discovered by another family member who came to feed the dogs and chickens each morning. So why weren’t the dogs barking in the night when this happened? Maybe the closest houses are too far away to hear anything?
