Trump’s Vice President? Expect the Unexpected
Fiscal Times/Yahoo Finance ^ | Apr. 26, 2016 | Ciro Scotti

Although Trump seems to be making a concerted effort to appear more “presidential” by delivering a speech on foreign policy in Washington on April 27 and more traditional by bringing in grown-ups like veteran GOP political operative Paul Manafort, his choice of a running mate could still be as unconventional as his can’t-look-away campaign has been.

Among the obvious candidates are former rivals like New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, who threw himself onto Trump’s gold-plated bandwagon shortly after pulling out of the primary race; Florida Sen. Marco Rubio, who would help in his crucial home state and possibly offset some of the Hispanic animus toward the illegal immigrant-bashing billionaire; Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker, an early primary dropout and former darling of conservative fat cats; and Ben Carson, the soft-spoken former neurosurgeon who has endorsed Trump and could add gravitas to the ticket — plus as an African American, he might make it seem more inclusive.

I think that was Adm Stockdale.

Trump needs to put in someone with a Curtis LeMay mindset to deal with ISIS.

I think the principle of carpet bombing has great value in this situation and should be implemented against ISIS immediately.

A good “fit” for Trump would be Allen West. Plays the minority card which scares the dems. Adds military experience that Trump is lacking. Fits with Trump’s overall message. It might be doubling down on the “tough guy” card but a V.P. who’s not a “tough guy” might end up not making much of an impression at all.

Yes when your negative poll numbers with women are off the charts then who better to team up with than a man who resigned from one job over sexual harassment charges? Good plan.

Israel is not making threats to bomb Iran every day. Iran, on the other hand, is launching missiles with “Death to Israel”’painted on the side, and issuing a statement at least a few times each month reiterating its enthusiasm for attacking Israel.

Jimmy Carter’s worst legacy (so many to choose from!) was in forcing the Shah to initiate certain reforms that led to the empowerment of the Ayatollah Khomeini and the ultimate overthrow of the Shah and imposition of a fanatical Muslim theocracy on the Westernized people of Iran.

Condi was a former Sec of State, so using the same argument one could tie Hillary to Obama as his SOS. Besides knowledgeable on international issues, she can also attest to the wanton criminality of Hillary Clinton by obscuring oversight and co-mingling her private business interests with her State Dept duties using an unprecedented email set-up.

Hunter is not a bad choice at all. I can see Trump going in that direction.

He may also go the governor route with Scott (FL), Walker (WI), Christie (NJ) or Brewer (AZ).

He might also go libertarian by selecting Rand Paul. That choice would be interesting as it directly is an appeal to a percentage of Bernie supporters, driving a wedge in the Democrat coalition.

I don’t think there’s a perfect VP choice.

As long as Trump chooses someone that can function as part of a team, fill the attack dog role and hopefully pull some swing states over to the GOP in Nov, that’s about as much as we can hope for.

Poor Teddy. He announces his VP pick to try and grab a few headlines and all it does is trigger speculation and conversation about Trump’s possible picks.

The root of the problem here is that the UK and US overthrew a democratically elected government in Iran in 1953.

It's the same story we've gotten used to by now. The long term consequences of messing around in the Mideast are worse than not having gotten involved in the first place. No coup would have meant no Shah and no Mullahs. More of the same is not going to improve the situation; it's the external threat we present which is keeping the Mullahs in power.

I would not be surprised by that choice. Trump has said on several occasions his VP pick will be a politician who knows all the ins and outs of government, who supports his policies completely, and is qualified to be President if necessary. Seems Newt fits that bill.

I just don’t agree. We can’t blame the victim for egging on his persecutors.

Trump leans libertarian. The best choice is someone who is acceptable to both the left and right. He has also stated he wants someone who has experience.in government. I think, based on his own statements, Rand Paul is the obvious choice.

. Seems Newt fits that bill.

A presidential ticket where the average age is 71 may raise some eyebrows.
