Former SS Auschwitz guard apologizes at trial

A 94-year-old former SS sergeant admitted in court Friday that he had served as an Auschwitz death camp guard, apologizing to Nazi Holocaust survivors looking on in a German courtroom that even though he was aware Jews were being gassed and their corpses burned, he did nothing to try to stop it.

Reinhold Hanning told the Detmould state court that he had never spoken about his service in Auschwitz from January 1942 to June 1944, even to his family, but wanted to use his trial as an opportunity to set the record straight.

"I want to say that it disturbs me deeply that I was part of such a criminal organization," he said as he sat in a wheelchair, talking with a weak voice into a microphone. "I am ashamed that I saw injustice and never did anything about it and I apologize for my actions. I am very, very sorry."

It would depend on how “hard-core” he was. There would still be survivors who would remember that. And from the way he himself makes it seem, he was pretty brutal.

Thank you. Finally someone who knows history chimes in. They could be transferred without repercussions and were. Sadly there was always more than enough to fill the empty spot.

Had he had any skills, they would have been him in charge of NASA.

It was a war. The war was stopped and yet the Nazi name has to be pushed back and back into the news, and posterity won’t be so kind to this unseemly extension of WWII which is basically what it really is. He doubtless wasn’t alone that he could just nod and wink at escapees and let them leave, if he wouldn’t shoot he would have been shot.

And then that was it to the war. WWII is still going on, as long as this goes on.

During this wartime scene under this mad dictator, you’re saying armed forces could just do-si-do at will? He believed in conscience protections after all, a soft side to the old madman?

The key is that he volunteered to join the SS. He knew what they did.

Someone who spoke to “one noted historian” who related something that defies what one would have expected out of Himmler.

Thank you, that was very informative. It sounds like he did more than just refuse orders to commit murder but instead tried to get others to do the same as well, which from the German point of view could have been seen as fomenting mutiny.

He could easily have volunteered for front line service.

I am guessing that you didn't read the article. He was wounded on the Russian front by a grenade. His company commander and the medical staff ruled him unfit for active duty. He was transferred to the camp as a guard rather than being discharged.

Their mission evolved over the years. We’d still have to ask “when.”

Wars have lasted this long, but we fool ourselves by calling it crimes. Crimes happen in a civilization otherwise at peace. It’s war.

Pat Buchanans Father was wounded in WWII. He fell out of a Guard Tower and broke his leg.

WHY has Soros not yet been charged with crimes against humanity?

Because he has the best attorney generals money can buy.

Historians such as Weinberg have combed through the documentary record, which is abundant, and have been unable to find a single instance of someone being punished for simply refusing to murder civilians. This despite the regime executing tens of thousands of it's own military personnel for a host of crimes. Unless you can show me otherwise I stand by my assertion.

Makes it a little harder to do-si-do out of it, huh.

Depending on one’s attitude, this was considered a shitty job or a plum job. He might have wished he had been fighting on a front, who knows? he was possibly never asked.

These weren’t civilians any more to Himmler. These were Untermenschen to him. Of course it wouldn’t be shown as “refusing to murder citizens” but some euphemism.

America is headed in the same direction as Germany before WWII. Except in this case, White People (not the Jews) are the cause of all the world’s problems.

...

I know it seems that way, but all the government is trying to do is stir up conflict and create protected classes, because that means more government dependents and more government. More government means there is more money for the crooked politicians to steal.
