Just How Offensive Is Will Ferrell's 'Reagan'? (Alert: Blood will boil)
The Hollywood Reporter ^ | April 29, 2016 | Seth Abramovitch

But it does revolve around the conceit that the 40th president had no knowledge of where he was or what he was doing throughout his entire second term. The protagonist is Frank Corden, a low-level White House aide with a sweetly idealized view of American democracy. The first clues that Reagan is not in his right mind come early on: As Frank prepares coffee for Reagan re-election staffers, he overhears Treasury Secretary Don Regan (depicted as a stern, mentor-like figure) in a heated phone conversation with Secretary of Defense Caspar Weinberger (cartoonishly abusive, he's described as "all Brylcreem and forehead veins"). "Write it down for him," Reagan says. "Write everything down. Even his name!"

Hollywood “standards”.

Even an idiot like Will Farrell should have known better.

Maybe he’s getting dementia.

At least Adam Sandler has *some* republican leanings.

Will Ferrell is a hopeless liberal dupe.

He's opened his wallet wide for Obama, and Hillary.

I have spent the last nine years taking care of my mother who has Alzheimer’s. No matter who the subject is there is nothing funny about Alzheimer’s at all. Everyone involved in this project is scum.

I agree. My wife and I have been taking care of her Father, who has Alzheimer’s for the past seven years, It is not funny, it is a nightmare.

If it’s OK to make light of Alzheimer’s , I guess we can remake Philadelphia into a comedy. “Uh oh, my T cells are kinda droppin’ low! I guess all those nights of anal sex really were bad for my health. Who would have thought that? Golly!” says that slow looking actor that won an Oscar for one of the lamest, predictable PC piles of garbage ever made.

I agree with you, and evidently Will does too .. because he has already backed away from the movie.

Synopsis: Carter, Clinton and Obama begin a trip to the middle east to inspect a national election in a well known third world country. However, their plane lands in Africa under mysterious circumstances, and they unwittingly become embroiled in a Nigerian internet scam.

That scene in which the three of them pass a joint around as they share rollicking stories of their White House days is absolutely priceless! But I don’t want to give too much away.

Will Ferrell is an unfunny turd. His movies stink out loud. Remember that idiot Paulie Shore? He was funnier than Ferrell, and he stank, too.

No, lefts, it’s NOT old news. It should be hit over and over.

It is disgusting and is still being made, I think.

People LOVED and LOVE Reagan and should know the depths to which the dems have sunk.

Trump should mention this movie and hit hard and furiously at the dem culture.

we almost always agree, so this one time isn’t bad :)

Lena Dunham was in on this project, too. Ugly inside and out, that woman.

Sandler may be a “no talent mediocrity” but at least he
politically leans to the right, or so I am told.

Maybe it’s a good thing I donated yesterday so I got away with the F them. They would not do this about Warren Beatty who supposedly has this.

I am sorry you are in my same boat. It’s so difficult. My mom has pretty much a full on black out to anything in the recent past, five minutes ago, two hours ago, a day ago, a week ago, a month ago, several years ago. And no longer are her early memories so pristine either, she will tell a story with her as the protagonist where it was my dad. She was an American History buff and has a million huge tomes around her and she is on page 17 in all of them, each time she picks up a book she kind of starts over and she picks up with ever one is the closest. But she is very verbal (my dad lost his ability to speak pretty early with it) and mostly thinks nothing is wrong with her.

But I have so much more empathy and respect for people with Alzheimer’s now. I know that they were great people and now they are trying so hard to be “Normal” with quite a broken brain. They may be more of a child now but they are still people. They are people with special needs, and a lot of scatter (amazing abilities along with deep deficits). They may be able to play piano or build things in their workshop like ever before, but not remember to get to the bathroom quickly enough or whether they had lunch.

No, he doesn’t just walk away from this one. He accepted the script with consideration to produce it. Up to his neck. And who wrote it?

“Conceit”? Concept?

And then there's Vice President Dick Cheney, who looms throughout as a mysterious and menacing presence. In the second-to-last scene, Cheney — who's already setting the stage for George W. Bush's presidency (W. is painted as a complete dolt, not unlike Ferrell's famous Saturday Night Live impersonation) — makes his true nature known.

A speech Cheney delivers to Frank underscores the dark side of what is ultimately a story of political cynicism versus idealism: "We needed a face, we needed a voice," he says. "We elected an actor and didn't even think about it. ... It's the 21st century: We don't really need a president."

In light of the meteoric political rise of a certain reality star, it doesn't take much to understand what Ferrell and McKay saw in the project.

History has rightly been kind to the 20th century's greatest president, but apparently Hollywood liberals can't deal with it. So they have to invent a "creative process" that tries to rewrite history...again, and make Reagan out to be a genial-but-mindless, alzheimer's-ridden dolt.

We can say "shame on them," but they have no shame. The story hits all the right notes: all advisors are either nefarious schemers or just unwitting simpletons - just like all Republicans! It stars the evil Dick Cheney and the simpleton George Bush. Cliches on steroids. And of course the author's last line, taking a shot at Trump...of course.

Hollywood's liberals live and breath to marginalize and ridicule conservatives. It's in everything they do. They aren't being too coy about it this time around.

Maybe we should write a nice little comedy on Obama about a pothead who becomes President, reads canned speeches, and signs whatever he's told to sign, while his "wife" jetsets around the world with her enormous entourage causing havoc.

You know, a documentary!

Has Ferrell walked away completely? My understanding is that he’ll no longer star in it, but his production company still owns the rights to the script.
