Is Free Republic worth Saving? My Opus Part II
Free Republic ^ | August 30, 2013 | The Bat Ladys Husband

Posted on 05/02/2016 10:52:50 AM PDT by The Bat Ladys Husband

My involvement with Free Republic began around 2000 when my wife began her vigil around the Texas governor’s mansion in support of GW against the challenge of Al Gore for the presidency. I generally provided the livelihood for the Bat Lady to be able to protest and surround the mansion against the leftists who were kept at bay across the street. While she was registered in order to post after action reports I was a lurker

Post #74 There has been no one banned that I know of for stating they supported any Republican candidate but some have been banned for saying they’d vote for the Rat.

I think there are many people who would beg to differ on their banishment, including my hubby who didn't even mention Ted. But he had an opus 3 years ago and didn't get banned but now did for this one.

[[Bob left out the part about when you cross the line and you disrespect the forum and other posters....that is when you’re shown the door.]]

Are you serious? Then practically everyone in this thread will be ‘shown the door’ for disrespecting the OP then huh? or everyone in the numerous “Cruz is an A$#hole’ threads will be shown the door for disrespecting cruz supporters then huh? Oh thats’ right- this is a one way street-

[[And, that applies regardless who you support.]]

Yeah, not so much

After all you claimed to have done in the name of country you still ask why Trump over Hillary. Pity.

Compiled by Jim Robinson:

1. Build the wall.
2. Enforce the law.
3. Deport them all.
4. End sanctuary cities.
5. End anchor babies.
6. Slap a moratorium on muslim immigration.
7. Cut the taxes.
8. Cut the spending.
9. Cut the regulations.
10. Cut the government.
11. Cut the debt.
12. Cut the EPA.
13. Repeal ObamaCare.
14. Get the feds out and allow health insurance to be sold over state lines.
15. Send education back to states.
16. Get a handle on trade.
17. Make trade deals in our own best interests.
18. Bring back capital.
19. Bring back manufacturing.
20. Bring back jobs.
21. Strengthen the economy.
22. Defend the second amendment.
23. Defend religious freedom.
24. Appoint constitutional conservative judges.
25. Rebuild our military.
26. Bomb the shit out of ISIS (and take their oil).
27. End political correctness.
28. Take the GOP head-on.
29. Take the media head-on.
30. Take the liberals head-on.
And win, baby, win.

All of the above on a shoestring budget compared to most of the 16 competitors he’s defeated (after they spent 100's of millions of donor bucks).

31. No PACs.
32. No big donors.
33. No party support.

What’s democrat about any of the above?
What’s not conservative?
What’s not to like?

And I’ll add a few more:

34. Redo the horrid Iran deal.
35. Take a serious look at NATO.
36. Require our allies to pay more for their defense.

Trump 100% conservative? That's certainly a bit of a stretch. Here's a 70 year old man who has, up until a little more than a year ago, been a 'Rat

There you go. Third sentence, and you're parroting the Trump-hater/GOPe/Cruz talking points.

Donald Trump has been registered as a Republican for more over the last 30 years, than he has been as a Democrat.

But let's just set that fact aside for a moment.

Jim Robinson himself reposted, as an entirely new article, a well-researched piece which conclusively proves that Donald Trump has talked about many of these same conservative issues (immigration, taxation, trade) going back over 30 years. Numerous citations were made from Donald Trump's own books, as a matter of fact.

That puts the lie to your false accusation regarding Donald Trump's conservative positions and beliefs.

Is Trump a perfectly ideologically pure conservative? No. But claiming he's not conservative at all is preposterous propaganda.

Additionally, Jim Robinson also was asked the question "Is Trump a Democrat?" and here was his response:

Build a wall.
enforce the law.
deport them all.
end sanctuary cities.
end anchor babies.
moratorium on muslim immigration.
cut the taxes.
cut the spending.
cut the regulations.
cut the government.
cut the debt.
cut the epa.
repeal obamacare.
get the feds out and allow health insurance to be sold over state lines.
send education back to states.
get a handle on trade.
make trade deals in our own interests.
bring back capital.
bring back manufacturing.
bring back jobs.
strengthen the economy.
defend the second amendment
defend religious freedom.
appoint constitutional conservative judges.
rebuild our military.
bomb the shit out of isis.
end political correctness.
take the gop head-on.
take the media head-on.
take the liberals head-on.
and win, baby, win.

all of the above on a shoestring budget compared to most of the 16 competitors he’s beaten.
no pacs.
no big donors.

what’s democrat about any of the above?
What’s not conservative?

So, to summarize, you are more content to regurgitate phony talking points, than to face the actual facts about Donald Trump.

Trump is certainly conservative enough from a policy perspective, and is a great candidate when considered in light of his leadership qualities.

Do you think posting that opus the second time at this particular time may have had something to do with his ban/suspension?

"A Zot is an action that happens when you support someone other than trump.

A Zot is what happens when you are an Obnoxious Jerk.

There are thousands of strong Cruz supporters here who can make their arguments with honesty and a bit class, without namecalling, without showing their absolute hatred for Trump and Trump supporters, without projecting their own flaws and their candidate's flaws upon the opposition.

Here's the problem - the only chance for Cruz now is for there to be a contested convention - and if that happends, it is far more likely that a White RINO, er, Knight from the GOPe will get the nomination, not Cruz. IMO all Cruzer can be is a spoiler for the anti-GOPe vote that has finally dominated a GOP primary. It would be one thing if the Cruz supporters just stuck to making the case for their candidate - but way too many of them spend more time flinging mud at the presumptive nominee, Trump.

I've been saying the same thing for more than a month, and it's part of the reason why I voted for Trump six days ago. However, I want Trump to win in November far more than I want to enjoy righteous anger at steadfast (or stubborn!) Cruz supporters.

One of many similar posts in March: "Of course the establishment is using Cruz to stop Trump, and I'm sure he knows that. Lindsey Graham's one-week about face from shooting Cruz on the floor of the Senate to endorsing him was pretty transparent. I'm also confident that Cruz thinks he can beat them at their crooked game. I think Cruz is wrong on that . . ."

And a week before that: "Cruz cannot win on the first ballot - that’s math - everyone knows that. Cruz thinks he has a chance to win on a later ballot - that’s misplaced faith in the party hierarchy . . ."

I could go back further in time, but the point is clear. We agree on the chances of a Cruz win and have agreed for a while. To me, the more important point is the chances for a Trump win in November. The anti-Cruz venom and the anti-CruzSupporters venom are hurting Trump's chances and making a Hillary win more likely.

I've spent as much time posting things like this (no link because I'm lazy: "Pride is fun, but if Trump turns off the ideological conservative wing of the party and loses their votes, Hillary will win." and "Trump will need the 30% of republican voters who prefer Cruz . . . I'd like to see a pro-gun, anti-Amnesty, anti-Obamacare candidate win in November, but the venom is reducing our chance of meeting that goal."

I also posted many times, in criticism of those who slammed Trump and those who slammed Cruz: "The nonsense is not helping us to elect the best possible conservative in November. I want 99% or more of Cruz supporters to vote Trump, when he is nominated, even if they hold their noses. In the event that Cruz wins the nomination, I want 99% or more of Trump supporters to vote Cruz, even if they hold their noses. Offending the other side does not encourage them to vote Trump (or Cruz) in November. I cannot help wondering how many of those who stir up the Trump-Cruz wars are actually paid trolls taking Jeb/Hillary/Soros money to cause trouble - not all of them but probably enough to set the toxic tone. I stand by my recurring statement: Cruz and Trump are both imperfect but they agree far more than 80% of the time (see my tagline from Ronald Reagan). They should be friends and allies, and we should treat both of them as such.

It all fell on deaf ears. My plan now? Prepare for the ugliness of a Hillary regime. It's getting more likely each day.

All this infighting between Trump and Cruz supporters helps Hillary in November. This forum isn’t TrumpRepublic or CruzRepublic. It should be for the thoughtful exchange of conservative thought.

Never Hillary!

The time for tearing down Donald Trump is past.

This community has had the debate, and made its decision.

The anti-Trump hatred has been clear to see for anyone that is objective.

The hatred Cruz has received has been , for the most part, richly deserved.

The two situations are not equal.

Ted Cruz has proven to be an inferior candidate with inferior principles and inferior leadership ability.

Cruz fanboys can continue to support him, but they'll have to try to do it without parroting his mindless lies about Trump.

Whether you personally are one of those haters isn't particularly important, but if you feel the urge to attack the presumptive nominee, you're definitely only helping the Hillary campaign at this point.

The Cruz campaign will soon be irrelevant.

And, if anything, I'm under-reacting to all the hatred. My own ability to spew vitriol is clearly inferior to many posters on both sides.

Your candidate has lost. Accept reality. Ted Cruz has become a sleazy, rotten, lying animal. IMHO, of course.

Those who insist on spreading the Cruz/GOPe brand of Trump-hating propaganda deserve to be shown the door.

Sounds like you’re confused.

Opus’ are usually open season for any and all attacks. You know that, if you’re a long time FReeper.

Take a look back at NUMEROUS Trump and cRuz threads, over the past months and see that folks ~ who supported one or the other of these candidates ~ were shown the door, once their attacks become personal, or crossed the line.

To issue a general statement, like you did, to a n00bie FReeper asking what a zot is, is just plain dishonesty. If you’re unhappy here, for whatever reason, no one is forcing you to stay. No need to trash the forum.

Another nice post, Sargon. A lot of us are tired of fighting the establishment candidate Cruz.

We want to see Trump get after Hillary. But that’s a little hard with this tiny GOP-e Chihuahua refusing to release its sharp teeth from his ankle.

The thing about Cruz that irritates me most is his smarmy rhetoric, most recently his melodramatic “Indiana is my Alamo!” pronouncement.
So that gets the rest of us—who would actually like to beat Hitlery, and like a bass drum this fall—thinking, “Really? You’ll finally agree that it’s `game/set/match’?”

But, no. We, um, misunderstood. Felito has bailed on Indiana and is bothering Californians now.
