White House spokesman Josh Earnest led off his briefing Tuesday with an announcement about President Obama’s impending visit to Flint, Michigan, but he made no mention of the the U.S. Navy SEAL killed by Islamic State militants in Iraq until questioned on the matter.
Earnest often begins briefings without announcements, but he made a point of specifically detailing Obama’s trip Wednesday to Flint to discuss the town’s water crisis, as well as tout the administration’s response to the matter.
“As you all know, the president will travel to Flint, Michigan tomorrow,” Earnest said. “He will stop first at the Food Bank of Eastern Michigan, to receive a briefing on the response to the crisis from federal officials and members of the unified command group. The food bank has helped more than 300,000 people in the last year and has become a critical hub in the response to the crisis. The facility coordinates the intake of basic supplies like water and food, and packages meals and hygienic products for distribution to the community.”
“The president will then take part in a neighborhood roundtable discussion, where he will hear from Flint residents dealing firsthand with the impact of the crisis,” he continued. “The president will also deliver remarks to a crowd of about 1,000 people at Northwestern High School, which is located in predominately African-American North Flint. At the direction of President Obama, a wide variety of federal agencies have been on the front lines responding to this crisis. FEMA has distributed more than 9 million liters of water and 50,000 water filters. Medicaid coverage has been expanded to everyone under the age of 21 in Flint.”
“HHS has extended funding to expand capacity at Head Start centers and community health care centers in Flint,” Earnest said. “The EPA has surged resources to significantly expand water-testing and to offer additional technical advice as needed, and advantages like SPA and HUD have stepped up their support to the community that’s weathering a pretty significant economic fallout from the crisis as well. As the president noted in his letter last week to Mari Copeny, known around town as Little Miss Flint, Flint residents need to know that when the cameras are gone, the administration’s support for the state and local support response efforts will continue, and the president looks forward to meeting with Mari and her family while he’s in Flint tomorrow as well.”
As Earnest wrapped up his opening, reporter Mark Knoller asked if Obama would meet with Gov. Rick Snyder as well. Earnest said he expected that such a “customary” meeting would likely take place.
“On the death of the U.S. Navy SEAL in Iraq, is there any reaction from the president to that or expression of condolence, and can you tell us when he was informed?” a reporter asked.
“I can tell you the president has been briefed on this incident, and everyone here at the White House, including the First Family, extends our condolences to the family of the service member that was killed today in northern Iraq,” Earnest said. “This individual was the third U.S service member killed in action since the beginning of Operation Inherent Resolve, and this service member’s death reminds us of the risks our brave men and women in uniform face every single day.”
Earnest added the Defense Department’s report was that ISIS forces penetrated a checkpoint manned by Iraqi forces.

This water thing is all resolvable. Just running the water first will help. But there are filters that work and everyone knows it.

I must have missed “Earnest” saying that whoever it was at the EPA that screwed up, will be fired. This whole Admin has been such a disaster for our country in so many areas. I can’t wait to hear “Earnest” address the toxic spill the EPA created in Colorado......crickets.

I saw a recreated schematic diagram on CBS news (consider the source)for the 6:30 PM EST, news broadcast.
The SEALS had allegedly gathered inside a secure compound, when 2 suicide truck bombs went off simultaneously at the armed and guarded exterior entrance .
Three additional trucks entered the interior of the compound, one blew up enroute to the center.
The two remaining suicide bomb trucks continued into the center of the compound where they blew up, one of which was outside the room where the seals were meeting.
Apparently, the Seals were aware of the commotion, and were armed at the time of the fatal detonation; one fatality , the condition of the other 4 SEALS remains unknown ,
and no additional information was provided by CBS news.
Depending on when the administration was given SITREP, as well as when the televised statement was held, it might explain why the White House "acted stupidly".
Given that the EPA demands that it is responsible for every river, stream, rivulet, swamp , and puddle in the U.S.A.
They bear responsibility for the conditions in Flint, as well as that gold mine they opened and flooded the river with toxins.
Perhaps the EPA should use the $6.1 Billion monies in unattached 'slush funds' which they currently hold to make amends for the conditions at both these sites
where they are at fault for contaminating potable drinking water of citizens.

Thanks. I had not seen that. Fox had defense department footage of a poorly armored white vehicle with a huge hole in the drivers side door and numerous .223 bullet holes. They said the Seal was in that Truck . Whoever was in that truck is dead. The large hole was an RPG entry . The door was blown outward and off the hinges.
Here is my opinion. It is bad military strategy to embed 250 Americans in Isis battle front. In Fact , it is insane. I am not an interventionist in other folks wars. I join a national consensus that Isis needs to be annihilated. I think it should be done by us and I think we take the oil.
I did not know that Jarrett was in command. I assume Jarrett will be in command in Cleveland when the communists attack the Trump celebration?

Anytime the "Rules of Engagement" eliminate self-defensive firing of a weapon until fired upon
tells me that you are waiting until someone in your force becomes a victim before you can return fire.
The fact of the matter is that civilian collateral damage does occur in warfare
and if someone civilian becomes collateral damage, they are a sympathizer to the enemy, in which case, since they haven't left the battlefield, such damage is justified.
You can't afford to 'pussey-foot' around when life threatening situations arise .
I completely agree. WWII which is never taught in our schools was Brutal. Dresden, Germany napalmed — 300,000 dead. Nagidaki , hiroshima 250,000. Tokyo napalm 200,000. “War is hell and you cannot refine it” You kill people and destroy their structures and you do it with glee before they do it to you. In order to eradicate Isis we will have to kill 50,000 civilians and 30,000 combatants inside Mosul mostly from the air followed by hand to hand street to street house to house. That is what will be happening.
