Donald Trump Won’t Self-Fund General-Election Campaign
WSJ Online ^ | May 4, 2106 | Monica Langley

Donald Trump won't self-fund his general-election campaign, and will instead create a "world-class finance organization," the presumptive Republican nominee said in an interview on Wednesday.

For a campaign expected to cost more than $1 billion, "I'll be putting up money, but won't be completely self-funding, as I did during the primaries," Mr. Trump said. The New York businessman, who did receive some mostly small unsolicited donations, lent his campaign $36 million of the $47 million he spent through March.

That plan represents a shift for Mr. Trump, who has for months portrayed his Republican opponents as "puppets" for relying on super PACs and taking contributions from wealthy donors that he said came with strings attached.

I have been for the most part, but frankly, I see very little graciousness in loss. We all have suffered them, but I don’t see anything different on the part of the losers other than the usual insults and refusals to accept the outcome.

Oh blah. Small donors have given to the RNC. Why shouldn’t he use party money?
Hillary will be using foreign and union money

So what? He has been saying this - I heard him say it weeks ago. He has only accepted small donations from private people till now.

He said it will have to change due to the costs of running in the general.

Bet he still spends less than anyone in modern history.

It wasn’t free on FOX. They spent months bashing Trump 24/7. This whining that FOX supported Trump is pure concocted Cruz hogwash and you know it.

Par for the course on the slam. I was merely saying that Trump shouldn’t be expected to pay for the general election. He won the party nomination. The party must work with their nominee. They need to work together to raise money for all GOP campaigns.

I don’t know if you can deduct the interest on a 37 million dollar loan on your investments unless it is real estate mortgages

But I do know you don’t have to pay capital gains tax on investments against which you only borrow, but do not cash out

Why should he? He will be the standard bearer for the GOP, which should now take over the funding of the campaign.

Well, I have posted frequently in the last 24 hours and I have tried to be positive about Trump. Responding to anti-Trump diatribes with anti-Cruz diatribes will only perpetuate the situation. NeverClinton.

if you could select my past posts with key words you would see that i NEVER EVER thought he would spend even 100 million.

Bloomberg is that type of man. Never cared about taking the subway etc.

Trump LOVES his money and was NEVER going to part with much of it.

I dont blame him. I wouldn’t want to either but i said from the beginning he wasn’t going to.

He could lie through his teeth to get the money so it doesn’t go to hillary. and then what once he’s elected. Your theory doesn’t hold.

Don’t forget. All tax deductible.

Running for political office means opening up your wallet, or other people's wallets, and spending money: on ads, staff, office space, mail, public appearances and sundry other expenses. If you're planning on taking these costs as a business or personal expense on your taxes, however, the IRS will take a very dim view. The short version written in the tax code has always been simple: campaign expenses are not deductible. Out of Money, Out of Luck

Political campaigns may not deduct their expenses, a rule spelled out clearly in IRS Publication 529: Miscellaneous Deductions. This covers costs that may be deductible for an individual or a business, such as business-related mileage, advertising, insurance and salaries. A candidate may not claim or itemize personal expenses related to the campaign, or claim the money spent as a "loss" to offset business income.

Fees Aren't Free

Necessary expenses paid to run for office are not deductible, either. This would mean fees paid to a public registrar, sales tax paid on purchases, or any licenses required to set up a public appearance. If you've run afoul of the campaign laws and need some legal help, you can't deduct the cost of that, either. The general principle on deductions is that they must be expenses used to generate taxable income; since a political campaign generates only a win or a loss for a candidate, there shalt be no deductible expenses.
