Washington (CNN)Republican officials who oppose Donald Trump as their party nominee have spent the last few days -- ever since the withdrawal from the race of Sen. Ted Cruz and Ohio Gov. John Kasich -- wondering if there is anything they could have done to prevent this outcome. Top officials of the Cruz campaign are convinced there is one specific step that could have stopped Trump -- and they blame Sen. Marco Rubio for not taking that step.
In early March, it became clear that Trump was well on his way to the nomination and would even likely defeat Rubio in his home state of Florida's March 15 primary. According to several sources close to Cruz, the Cruz campaign conducted several secret polls to see what the impact would be if Rubio joined Cruz as his running mate, with Cruz at the top of the ticket.

They FAIL to admit that their candidate is NOT telegenic and talks in a way that sounds "preachy" at best and is severely condescending at worst.
They didn't lose because of their message. They lost because of their messenger and "messenging". No humor, lousy timing, and typical Jeff Roe dirty tricks always "outsmarting" the next guy.

Yup. I was all-in for Cruz until his campaign sent out those mailers in Iowa that told you how your neighbors voted, and told them about your voting habits. That was Big Brother, not "Constitutional conservative."
And when the campaign's response to the outcry about it was, "Hey, everybody does it!", that sealed the deal for me. Bad move, and it all fell apart with crazy Glenn Beck after that.
When you campaign as the ‘face of God’, there is literally no room to be wrong. Cruz can become a televangelist, bringing the $$$$ to the priesthood...his daddy. Although I would like to see Trump tap him to be ambassador to Cuba... That way he can keep Rush stocked with Cuban cigars.

Cruz will never wake up from his delusions. The more folks saw of his tactics and superiority complex, the more likely they are to agree with Boehner and McCain on their assessments of him.
Look what Cruz did. He threw Fiorina, Rubio, Kasich, and Carson under the bus. Interestingly, he doesn't seem to have been much involved in destroying Jeb's campaign.
Cruz supporters cannot process the disconnect between being the evangelical candidate and employing the master of gutter politics, Jeff Roe.
Months ago, Roger Stone said Cruz was hitting up Rubio for a veep spot. Stone took a lot of crap on this forum because “Cruz would NEVER do that.”
And here it is, from the horse’s mouth.
Anybody who still doubts the fundamental incompetence of Cruz and his cronies should probably stop paying attention to politics and get a hobby like fishing or minecraft. Because you just don’t get politics and probably never will.

Roe proved that what you can win with in local and statewide contests doesn’t transfer to a national election. This is as much about Jeff Roe trying to be a future national campaign manager than it is about Ted’s future.

Cruz is young enough that he needs to finish this term as senator, run for Gov. of Texas in 2018
to get some executive experience then move from there to another Presidency run. He needs to
learn to work with people as he’s not the King in the senate. Building the correct relations
will help in a future run.
I am assuming you are in Texas. What is the sentiment down there concerning Cruz?

Fiorina’s doubtless lucky the Cruz jihad detonated so quickly after she unwittingly signed on. Teddy was probably just one more massive failure of a state primary away from going full-bore Ed Gein on her, and draping himself in a homemade Carly suit. ;)
Absolutely true. One other thing emerges from Roe’s gutter tactics. If voters don’t know the candidate all that well, Roe’s lies can destroy him/her. But if voters already have a pretty good idea of who the candidate is, the worst of Roe’s smear tactics is blunted.
Thank heaven in this case we had the second scenario.
I do not know. I am in Afghanistan for another month or so. I only know that neither of my sons are very happy with him and they both voted for him in 2012.
