Interestingly enough, if they allowed concealed carry folks to drive again, they could then advertise that they have drivers who’ve passed the most stringent background checks, AND are fingerprinted by the government.
But, instead, they kowtowed to the liberal whiners and won’t let their drivers conceal carry.
Have there been problems with Uber drivers that caused this reaction? Or are the taxi unions that strong in Texas?
They are not company employees. They are independent contractors. And what exactly do you think you get from fingerprinting? Safety? That’s a joke.
What of the .00002 percent of crimes committed by Uber drivers would have been prevented by fingerprinting?
It’s retarded.
“Out West, there have been reports of female passengers for Uber being raped and or robbed.”
Out west? lol. Those stagecoaches are rough, women should stay back east. Idiotic.
“I am assuming that Uber has insurance. Maybe they dont.”
The drivers are supposed to buy their own. They are contractors, not company employees. Think of the Uber app as a classified ad in the paper when a driver posts a “call me for a ride” ad.
You wouldn’t expect the paper to carry insurance on that guy.
“I find so interesting about the Uber phenomenon is that it is pure capitalism, in a sense also libertarian and non union yet loved by millennials who are 180 degrees opposite to that”
True. But as conservatives and capitalists, instead of mocking them as so often happens. We need to cheer them on for liking it, and point out to them how government regulations always try to kill their ideas.
Yes, I would. I expect there is some exposure for the newspaper company regarding their selection of carriers. There is probably some due diligence that is required.
And what were the nationwide rape and sexual assault stats for standard taxi drivers, from Dec 2012 to August 2015? The fact is they aren’t even collected.
Very disingenuous.
On Saturday, Austin voted 56% to 44% against Proposition 1, which would have allowed ride-hailing companies to continue using their own background check systems.Cabs are licensed by (typically) state or local gubmint, and are a source of revenue. Ride-sharing (rides for hire, basically) are not a source of gov't revenue, apart from income tax. I would have thought Austin TX would have approved Uber's and Lyft's systems, this is surprising.
They hire felons. Glad you got good people in your service. It’s Russian Roulette.
So glad Austin stood up to the corporate bullies who demand either governments and people meet their freaky demands (like put men in the women’s bathrooms and locker rooms, or in this case, felons in cars) or no business/service.
CEO’s have been acting like bullies and fascists. They did this in Houston, too. Houston let them go and they lost BIG money. Houston will survive just fine without them.
We had a judge speak last Saturday at a weekly political breakfast I attend, and he said exactly the same thing. This is a man who regularly presides over DUI cases and has been requiring a treatment program as part of sentencing that has greatly reduced DUI recidivism, which is quite high.
Laws restricting Uber and Lyft increase DUIs, and thus DUI crashes, injuries, and deaths. There is no doubt about it.
I’ve been fingerprinted and background checked a couple of times and it only took about a week or so.
Both Uber & Lyft do their own version of background checks:

Ive been fingerprinted and background checked a couple of times and it only took about a week or so.
Maybe it depends on what it’s for. My wife and I were getting Level II Security Guard Licenses so we could do Oil Rig Gate Guard Guarding in south Texas.
My wife had to have her fingerprints done a total of three times (done by 3 different law enforcement agencies) before they got a set they liked.
