Ted Cruz poised to challenge Trump in Texas

Ted Cruz isn’t giving up.

While Donald Trump dispatches three advisers to Texas’s convention in Dallas this week and makes a pitch for party unity, his team will be running up against a Cruz operation that is still maneuvering to stuff the state’s delegation with allies the senator could call on to snub the presumptive nominee.

“We have a busy weekend planned,” said a source familiar with the Cruz campaign’s plans.

Cruz is scheduled to deliver an address at the Texas convention after a week of hinting he could jump back into the presidential contest and urging activists to thwart the New Yorker’s takeover of the GOP’s policy platform. And despite dropping out of the race more than a week ago, the vanquished presidential contender has deployed at least one paid adviser to the Texas Republican convention – Tyler Norris, his state director. (Trump has three advisers: state director Joshua Jones, deputy director Eric Mahroum and Houston-area director Kayla Hensley.)

It’s not just Texas where Cruz is still playing.

The senator’s team remains active in several of the other eight state conventions selecting delegates this week – from Nebraska to Oklahoma to Nevada. Those conventions, along with party meetings in Arkansas, Florida and Wisconsin, will be selecting 389 national delegates, nearly a sixth of the entire convention.

If Cruz were still working to send the nomination fight to a contested convention, this weekend’s delegate hunt would have been the main event – the largest single delegate selection weekend of the primary season. Now, it’s become a display of Cruz’s last hardcore bastions of support and a forum for Trump to appeal for unity.

Same old same old. Ted falsely claimed Ben Carson was leaving the race. Then he falsely claimed he was leaving the race.

Funny, I thought he’d suspended his campaign?

I am still waiting for them to define the term “Constitutional Conservative”

Cruz living up to his reputation. Trump had him pegged in January:

"But he's a nasty guy. Nobody likes him. Nobody in Congress likes him. Nobody likes him anywhere once they get to know him." - Donald J. Trump

My guess is that Cruz may have a hard time winning re-election. I think he will draw one or more primary candidates.

I met Harold in about 1980, his last run I think, nice guy and a real gentleman, please don’t compare Cruz to him.

Narcissistic personality disorder.

Yep, we're probably dealing with multiple personality and mental disorders, but there is definitely an obsessive/compulsive aspect to it.

“So....give whatever you can to help Cruz keep his conservative vision alive.”

Yeah I’ll give. I’ll give a $hit!

It doesn’t matter that Donald Duck speaks gibberish and walks around with no pants. If Donald Duck is an R, they are going to support him.

If this is how so-called “Conservatives” conduct themselves, I want nothing to do with it.

Not sure what this creep is up to, but it seems clear at the very least he, along with Romney are up to no good.

I tend to believe that Cruz dropped out when he did in part to allow the nevertrump cabal to name a 3rd party candidate before the Texas filing deadline.

Failing that, they are planning something else. Something so nefarious that it requires some sort of “bombshell”, to use Romney’s favorite phrase, to attempt paint the GOP rejection of Trump via delegate seating at the convention.

No doubt, Romney will continue to attempt to sabotage Trump. Perhaps costing him Utah which complicates the electoral map.

I promised myself that I wouldn’t say another negative word about TC. The mocking is hard to hold back though. Gee wiz carly set a record of dropping out of the same race 3 times. Are we going for 4?

Cruz is getting conservatives higher up in the Party- going to the convention is good for advancement.

Or one can let POLITICO tell them what to think. The DNC prefers one do.

The race is over.

Look Cruz has something like 148 of the Texas delegation that is pledged to him. They are going to vote for him on the 1st ballot.

An it will make absolutely ZERO difference because he will still be far, far short of enough to make any kind of difference.

Trump is going to walk into Cleveland with over 1,400 delegates.

Cruz is trying to buttress up his own support to have some influence over the platform.

Since he is going to end up with the highest delegate count and the highest popular vote of any 2nd place GOP finisher in the last 20+ years...he has a right to try and have some influence.

But as far as his prospects for any hope for the nomination...that bus left the station after NY, and had disappeared after Indianan.

...and he recognized it and suspended his campaign.

But he still hopes to have some influence and probably feels he owes it to what will probably be close to 8 million people ho voted for him.

This is a tempest in a tea pot as far as I am concerned.
