Mike Lee: Trump 'scares me to death'
The Hill ^ | 5/11/16 | Rebecca Savransky

Posted on 05/12/2016 6:08:44 AM PDT by Sybeck1

Mike Lee(R-Utah) said Wednesday that he is not ready to endorse presumptive GOP nominee Donald Trump

"I have not supported Donald Trump up to this point, I have not endorsed him," Lee said, according to The Washington Examiner.

"I have some concerns with him. He scares me to death; so does Hillary Clinton

. There is no easy choice right now." Lee had previously endorsed Ted Cruz

, before the Texas senator ended his presidential bid earlier this month. At the time, he said Cruz had a "proven record of fighting for our conservative values and for the issues that matter most to Americans."

The Utah senator said he plans to continue following the election and will make a choice in the future.

"I'll make the decision as best I can," he said, "but I'm not there yet."

Lee now joins several other Republican leaders, who have said they are not ready to endorse Trump or said that they don't plan to vote for the presumptive nominee in a general election.

Speaker Paul Ryan said last week that he was "just not ready" to endorse the presumptive GOP nominee.

Isn't it possible that people have reservations about him because he's a goofy clod whose current promises and positions are completely at odds with his prior statements and his life history?

Trump-Hillary(or any other Democrat) pick one.

We have learned a lot about who the GOP really are, since Trump rattled their cage and they all come out of their elite closet.

Newt said last night that Trump was not one of them... he’s a stranger on the block and they can’t control him like they have all other candidates... they can’t control their power any more.

At the very least, Trump has revealed the GOP as the sham that it is.

Kudos for omitting the (e)!

No chance, obviously, that people have learned more about Ryan in the SEVEN intervening years.

But that is my point... we keep naming these "champions" who keep letting us down... or we tear them down ourselves. Reagan is the only one in the last 40 years who help up long-term. ONLY ONE. I think this says much more about us than it does about the guys we continue to get stabbed by.

And this is ESPECIALLY true this year, as ANYONE who isn't 100% behind Trump in all ways and for all time is declared to be a RINO and treasonous and more.

Pig in a poke

AND NO CANDIDATE IN DECADES IS A BIGGER PIG IN A POKE THAN DONALD TRUMP!!!!!!!!!

The fact that most of his ardent supporters cannot see this or admit it is extremely troubling.

Your memory is flawed and your quotes highly selective.

Romney/Ryan 2012 ticket was not heroic on FR either.

But...just keep it up. The FR clock's tickin' on you.

And people need to understand that Donald Trump is probably the most conservative Republican who has campaigned for the nomination over the past year. He may not be there yet on all issues. That depends upon what he has focused on--as does everyone's positions of every sort. It all starts with perspective & then specific focus, for all of us as we develop any ideology--or sort out our rudimentary ideologies.

What is the primary--the most important Conservative issues for an American? Surely it comes down to how best to preserve the liberty, values and interests of a specific people, the American people. Who has clearly made putting America first, first?! Donald Trump!

What are his other major issues, up until now? Surely they are things which go to facilitating that primary issue:

Enforced borders; protecting American jobs; protecting American domestic security; avoiding sacrificing American lives, limbs & treasures by fighting other nations wars for them.

By any rational metric for an American President, Donald Trump is the truest Conservative running this year.

I believe that Mike Lee is a good man; a true Conservative. He needs to reflect on these issues, and join Donald Trump and the rest of us, in putting America and the American tradition & interests first.

Yes, and like most conservative politicians, it only lasts until they get to Washington. 4 years ago he was already such a leftist that Romney would choose him for a running mate.

If that is there plan, they are going to have a real tough time doing in when Trump marches in with 1400+ delegates.

Indiana sealed it and Nebraska echoed Indiana. Which of the remaining primaries give the NeverTrumpsters any hope at all?

3.2.1. Trump Cult about to throw another great conservative under the bus.

Trump’s got my vote and support, but there are significant concerns about his commitment to conservative ideas and also to his reliability to carry the torch. If I read his website, I love his platform. When he speaks about his solutions, he’s literally all over the board. We all should be able to agree, there’s no clue what will occur in a Trump presidency. He could wipe out Obamacare or he could put together a deal with democrats to fix it and leave 3/4ths of it in place to look more like Canada or England. He’s said both. I am hopeful that his website positions will be a guide post and that conservatives like Lee can help guide policy in the right direction. Thing is, we won’t know until we know.
____________________________________________

I know Trump is not a Social Conservative. But he seems to have a good grasp of what the Governments job really is: keeping this Country safe and building a strong Military.

I know Hillary is not a conservative in any way, shape or form. She hates the military and is a globalist.

I do believe that Trump loves this Country.

I know Hillary does not love this country.

The choice is obvious to me. We can not work on social ethics unless we are safe. As a side note, It is Congress that we should worry about in regards to obamacare - THEY are the traitors. We need to do all we can to ensure congress gives Trump a bill to sign revoking it - that is THEIR JOB.

“Your Top Four “Trump will” statements are all based on nothing but fantasy. They also ignore Congress completely.”

1. If Trump doesn’t at least try to do those things, his Presidency will be DOA - he will be viewed as a complete failure. That’s not why a 69-year-old billionaire, who could have done ANYTHING else, got into this race to do; it isn’t what he does, period - failure is not in his vocabulary.

2. First, any President can do a lot about immigration without Congress, because it is already part of the law. He can, for example, issue an order to prevent this country from legally admitting anyone from countries X, Y and Z-istan. He can order that illegals be prosecuted and expelled. He can order that employers of illegals be prosecuted and, if found guilty, fined.

On the other issues, the President LEADS, especially in his first year in office. If he proposes a budget including a larger amount for DoD than Obama, I’m betting that it’ll sail through with no problems - so, NO, it isn’t a fantasy. Ditto for unleashing our energy industry to created millions of jobs over time and reduce our balance of payments deficit, and ditto on cutting back the deficit.

Lee is trying to pressure Trump to give him something for his support.

Trump and Trump’s voters don’t work that way Lee.

Maybe Lee needs to leave DC while clutching his pearls and swooning.
