Inside the GOP effort to draft an independent candidate to derail Trump
Washington Compost ^ | May 14 at 12:36 PM | Philip Rucker and Robert Costa

A band of exasperated Republicans — including 2012 presidential nominee Mitt Romney, a handful of veteran consultants and members of the conservative intelligentsia — is actively plotting to draft an independent presidential candidate who could keep Donald Trump from the White House.

Those involved concede that an independent campaign at this late stage is probably futile, and they think they have only a couple of weeks to launch a credible bid. But these Republicans — including commentators William Kristol and Erick Erickson and strategists Mike Murphy, Stuart Stevens and Rick Wilson — are so repulsed by the prospect of Trump as commander in chief that they are desperate to take action.

The source of the disease is seeking it's cure. They refuse to admit that they are the cause of the problem. Do you hear the death-rattle?

Will they all promise to
commit ritual suicide if Mr. Trump wins?

Not that anyone’s word in the GOP actually means anything.

Is Trump a Mason? If he isn’t, is that why the elites are so dead against him because he would spoil some plan or other? The elites social conditioning programs must not be working well for them to be in this blind of a panic!

Then again, Trump could be the “bre’er rabbit” candidate to give pissed off Republicans (and a bunch of Dem’s, too) somebody to vote for in a rebellion against the “system”; while the elites maintain over all control!(...hence the over all mainstream message...”What ever you do...don’t go voting for that ‘no account Trump’!!” ) The average pissed off voter hears that, gets more pissed off and says...”that’s exactly what I’m gonna do and the more dirt they try to throw at him the more I’m gonna do vote for him!”

They might look honestly at Trump’s popularity. If there is a better candidate, that person would have already knocked Trump out of the primaries. As it turned out, the race wasn’t even close.

So the people don’t like the GOP establishment. It is time for the establishment (punditry as well as politicians) to pay attention to what the people want, and to go along with it. If they don’t want to, well, they can just go get lost. The voice of the people will not be silenced.

Spoiled elitist brats. They should run to their country club, pony up to the bar and lament that end of the CHEAP LABOR EXPRESS... ‘cause that’s what all the hoopla is about.

The Washington Compost, NY Times, and broadcast drive-bys are trying to avoid covering the real story, which is, Hitlery is a lying grifter who belongs in prison, and the crooks from the White House and DOJ are trying to keep her out of prison.

re: race wasn’t close?

2016 was the closest primary since Goldwater-Rockefeller.

What infuriates the establishment is that Trump, Cruz, Carson (the top 3 for most of the race) are all unacceptably anti-establishment and they had over 70% of the primary vote.
Then consider Rubio was the ideal establishment candidate Crist.

The conservative establishment doesn’t want to admit that they are as out-of-touch with real people as the moderate establishment is.

Remember, these were the kind of guys telling the rest of us to compromise and put up with the likes of Shrub / Dole / McCain, etc. for years to avoid something worse. Regardless of whether Trump wins or not, we'll never go for that "lesser of two evils" garbage BS again. They've permanently lost whatever credibility they ever had. Trump, if nothing else, exposed the charade.
