Washington state GOP snubs Trump in delegate elections
CBS News ^ | May 22, 2016 | EMILY SCHULTHEIS

Donald Trump may be the last Republican standing in the 2016 race, but that doesn't mean everyone in his party is happy about it.

At the Washington state Republican convention this weekend, 40 of the state's 41 elected GOP delegates went not to Trump but to Texas Sen. Ted Cruz, Trump's primary challenger in the race.

The Seattle Times reports that even Trump's state campaign chairman in Washington, state Sen. Don Benton, didn't snag a delegate slot in the anti-Trump crowd.

Cruz's state campaign manager, Saul Gamoran, said many Washington state Republicans are "taking a wait-and-see attitude" to Trump's candidacy.

Texas Sen. Ted Cruz, Trump's primary challenger in the GOP race, picked up 40 of 41 delegates at the Washington state GOP convention this weekend.

In theory, Washington Republicans' delegate move will have little effect: despite electing delegates at this state convention, those delegates are bound to vote according to the statewide results in this Tuesday's upcoming Washington primary.

“I have TOTALLY had it with these people.”

“many Washington state Republicans are “taking a wait-and-see attitude” “

With Felito still egging them on, you and me both, and anyone serious about barring Crusty Pantsuit from the White House have all had it with these coy ostriches.

Cruz’s ego is too big for GOP unity. After all, it was Cruz who accepted the mantle of “annointed by God”.

I’m not completely surprised. This state has been finding ways to cheat the system for years. They put the republican and democrat primaries on one ballot so the person can lie about their status and vote against the GOP candidate they don’t want to face their actual democrat choice. And then in the general election they vote democrat and nothing is done to stop it. There is a post office box in Seattle that houses a few thousand owners so they can vote democratic. They have not successfully counted the votes correctly from the military for years, yet successfully found votes in three recounts to elect a recent governor at the same time they refused to count military arriving late votes because they didn’t get them mailed on time. The oversight and actions of this state speak for themselves.

Why didn’t Cruz request that they vote for Trump?

Cruz looks to be still playing his little games.

Consider the silver lining. There won't have to be a purge of the Republican Party. The backstabbing, globalist, jack*ss elites are self purging.

Anyone who has participated in this stuff or anyone who has not yet enthusiastically embraced Trump's candidacy is through. It's too late We gain independent and even dem support with these horrible sore losers gone.

That includes Paul Ryan and Ted Cruz and the Bushes. They have no respect for their former voting fodder. Why should we want them in the fold?

Cruz's state campaign manager, Saul Gamoran, said many Washington state Republicans are "taking a wait-and-see attitude" to Trump's candidacy.

This from Paul Mulshine's Newark Star Ledger column -- and I thought it was an insightful assessment:

"As for the few stragglers in the "never-Trump" movement, they are mostly confined to the pages of the Washington Post and National Review. There, they have been reduced to the status of those Japanese soldiers who held out on Pacific islands for years after World War II, unaware the war was over."

Trump supporters' favorite jerkwater, Billie Kristol, was on the ABC Sunday news program this morning, extolling the virtues of getting a third-party candidate to siphon off votes from Trump and throw convention into turmoil or keep Trump from beating Hillary.

Hasn't this guy's "Use By Date" come on gone? Expired? He admitted it wouldn't be Romney because he had declined, but someone like Ben Sasse from Nebraska.

One, I thought Ben Sasse was was publicly chastened by the state Republican party because he was playing outside their rules. Two, who the hell is Ben Sasse? People won't vote for an unknown conservative all of the sudden. But Kristol think's the only people voting for him would be the #NeverTrump people. Is that enough to throw the election to Hillary? We'll see.

But a bigger self-absorbed, arrogant, smarmy, rich Republican elitist devouring his own reputation for breakfast there isn't. He is the very GOP type Trump supporters are voting against.

If the state delegates are required to vote for Trump at the convention, and Trump is to have the number of delegates that for now we know are required for winning the nomination, then please explain why this matters.

It doesn’t matter. The pool of people willing to drop $5,000 to $10,000 to be meaningless extras in a TV show is limited, and a state party certainly has a right to look to its own past time and financial contributors to represent them. Fringe party participants that usually expect others to pay their way are naturally not high on the list.

He tells me he has been TOLD in no uncertain terms by party bigwigs that he WILL vote for Cruz.

This is what the Cruz folks see as letting your the party's conscience be your guide.

On our side of the mountains, we had Legislative District Caucuses. Trump supporters were there and when they went up for their 3 minute speech for the vote, hid their Trump support knowing very well the Cruz block would not give them them the majority vote they needed to be elected a delegate on the first vote. That strategy did not work because, all the 22 delegates who occupied the first 22 spots on the delegate ballot were Cruz supporters! They had submitted the names to the King County GOP at the same time, insuring they would get listed on the ballot in the first slots. All the Cruz people had to do in making their vote was fill out the bubble sheet of the first 22 spots on the ballot. That made it real easy. All the 22 Cruz delegates were elected on the first ballot. I had concealed my preference and was elected as an alternative delegate. I could have been elected as a permanent delegate if they hadn’t stacked the deck and had the math on their side. By the way, this is how the Romney delegates stacked the deck in the last Legislative Caucus. I was for Gingrich and did announce my preference for him. I got slammed out in that one.

I was there with my teen daughter - both as delegates in support of Cruz. There were a few “nevertrumpers”, but most of us, including my daughter and I, are “never Hillary”. Most everyone there that spoke at the main mike (the bigwigs of the state party), and also the leaders in at least my district, made it clear that Mr. Trump was the presumtive candidate, and that while feelings might still be raw, we are generally united in principles and WILL be united in November. The chairwoman (Susan Hutchinson) made that clear and received loud clapping and cheering with the exception of a handful of boos that I could hear.

There were a few delegates that had their 30 seconds at the mike that were either obnoxious Trump supporters or obnoxious neverTrump people. One nevertrumper tried to bring up a resolution that “candidates” should change their tone about women, disabled reporters, President Bush to blame for 9-11, etc. He was roundly booed and called out of order and told to sit down.

I had heard where about 85% of the delegates elected to the state convention were Cruz supporters. Most of them stated in their 30 second mike spiel how they wanted to be at the national convention so that the platform would honor our Constitution, religious liberties, second amendment rights, etc.

I imagine some of the media will try to make it into trying to “steal” delegates, or whatever. But most of us are mostly behind Trump and want to be involved in the process. Several of the things that Mr. Trump has done recently have gained him more favor with the Cruz folks (the policy guy he put on from that pro-life and pro-faith family group, his list of conservative judges, etc.).

Susan Hutchinson said she had met with Mr. Trump privately, and that he assured her that he would be visiting Washington State again on the campaign trail. (And not just private fundraisers in Medina like most others). She was excited about that - as Washington rarely gets that, and that we should all be exited that this year might be the year Washington goes Republican for President, Governor, Senate (dump Patty Murray) and so many others. I believe she said Trump told her “You know - Washington is a swing state this year.”

Didn’t we have reports that Cruz headed for Washington State before dropping out of sight when his father was associated with Oswald? Looks like he managed to bribe a few more before we were rid of him. If we are.
