New Roanoke College Poll has Donald Trump launching +11% to pull even with Hillary in Virginia.

38% for Trump isn’t particularly good, but 38% for Hillary has to be downright frightening for her.
You would have to think Trump has more room to improve those numbers than she does.
VA is likely to go Hillary because of NOVA.
Otherwise it would be a solid Trump state.
When he gets more into the issues, that will help him big time.

How is 38% good? In the old days, VA would have been a lock for a GOP presidential candidate.

That was the old days....didn’t their Gov. just get charged with something today, plus isn’t he in the Clinton Crime Family receiving and giving money to foreign countries right along with her?
There was an article that he bought the house in New York for the Clintons, the payback being that he be Gov...he hasn’t lasted his full term, and already being charged...
That was in the old days, we are in a new cycle now...if they can take this guy down, there is a huge gem in there for people to crack open the Clinton Safe...

It didn’t help that the last Republican governor was convicted of crimes committed in office. While some claim he was the victim of a political witch hunt, he and his wife did accept very expensive gifts and favors from wealthy individuals. There was definitely the appearance of impropriety and corruption whether or not he was technically in violation of the law.
In addition GOP candidates in statewide races for the Senate and Governor have run poor campaigns and have made foolish comments which turned the tables in close races. George Allen’s macaca moment in his Senate reelection bid comes to mind.
With the cloud of suspicion over McAwful concerning his ties to the Clinton Global Initiative, his ability to boost Shrillary’s campaign in VA will be severely blunted.
Pollsters: “What other counties? We thought Fairfax was the only one in Virginia. That’s why we have been making all our calls in Fairfax! Now we find that there are other counties? Who knew?”
It’s pretty sad that because of one person having a momentary lapse in judgment caught on tape, saying the word “macaca”, is why we have Obamacare, but he would have been in the Senate during that vote and would have been the 41st vote to block cloture to move forward on the bill.
And that was the whole reason everything was thrown into that race to get him elected governor - to help Hillary. If he is under criminal investigation that might help to keep her from carrying the state more than had he lost, actually, as a cloud will be hanging over them with a criminal investigation.
If both candidates are truly at 38%, the environment is ripe for a knockout blow against Hillary...but Trump would have to get on the air first...ads featuring the mother says Hillary lied to her about her son’s death in Benghazi would be very powerful and effective in creating a low ceiling of support for her in any state where she is polling 45% or below. Running in tandem could be ads featuring Trump’s wife and children to soften his image with those were wanting to decide to vote against Hillary but not sold on Trump...even if they still didn’t like him, they might end up at least disliking him the least of the two and that would be curtains for Hillary...but this is only effective if Trump gets the jump on Hillary while she is still distracted by Bernie Sanders and would not be able to respond and gets this campaign on the air...heck, do it in all 50 states on all major media markets and nationwide via cable / satellite channels. He can just write a check and drown her own media campaign out...nationwide...none of the “where should shift our resources” stuff...he has the wealth to do it.
I believe Trump is prevented from using general election funds until after the convention, but I think he can use his own money now and special interests can hit Hillary now without mentioning Trump.
That’s what they did to Romney in 2012 - hit him hard before the convention and he really never recovered.

BTW: With CNN’s count, Trump could actually go over 1237 tomorrow, by one point.
