John Trandem wanted to be the delegate who would put Donald Trump over the top, giving him enough delegates to clinch the Republican presidential nomination.
His father went to ND last September, targeting a state that does not hold a primary or a caucus. They made sure Cruz delegates were the majority to choose from in Fargo.
The irony of it being - John Trandem, an unbound delegate- is also sweet. Ted Cruz had included several unbound delegates as committed to Cruz to make ND 'appear' as his win.
Politico's reported that not all the unbound delegates listed on the Cruz Campaign Victory were committed to supporting him. Many stated their support was soft or conditional.
Yet Cruz was counting all these people as his delegates and distributed the list to the press, tricking the press into declaring Cruz as the big winner of North Dakota.
So much for the TeamCruz strategy of assumed winning and voter-less wins.
"Mister 1237" = John Trandem is a small business owner from Fargo, North Dakota.
As a Trump supporter, John didn't want to commit until they had 1236 delegates.
Trandem knew Trump was two delegates short, so he passed his phone to state Rep. Ben Koppleman.
And once Ben committed and became 1236, John Trandem officially became Mister 1237.
Even though technically, no Republican candidate could win North Dakota, Cruz had declared victory referring to his 'long grass-roots" campaign.
From GreenPapers North Dakota page:
April 3-7:
"Cruz allies prevail in North Dakota -CNN. "North Dakota Republicans selected 25 national delegates and, of those, 18 were on a list of preferred delegates that Cruz circulated"
Cruz: "I'm thrilled to have the vote of confidence of Republican voters in North Dakota who delivered such a resounding victory today,"
"As I met them over the weekend, ND Republicans recognized that I am the only candidate who can move this country forward by protecting freedom and liberty.
Whether we defeat Donald Trump before the convention or at it, I'm energized to have the support of the vast majority of ND delegates."
North Dakota almost nominated Reagan in 1976, too. Details on my Freeper page.
What a jerk that needs 15 minutes of fame
I think its ironic because the RNC rules committee guy who kept saying the party chooses the nominee...not the voters...is from North Dakota.
Once more, New Jersey’s primary votes are rendered irrelevant because they’re in June instead of April or May.
I got my sample ballot in the mail today, which shows the layout of the machine and location of the parties and candidates. One curious thing, though. On the Republican section there is a check box and short instruction for a write-in vote on the presidential line. It is missing from the Democrat section. Hmmm...
Cruz said that back in April, after he thought he had wrangled the majority of delegates and he added some names to make the win look bigger.
He waited for CNN to declare him the winner, then put out his thank you statement.
It was a dirty trick and it worked. I thought Cruz owned the N. Dakota delegation.
Little did we know his victory list was a farce. He added at least 3 other names.
It was actually a CO delegate that put Trump over the top.
You’ll remember the state party managed to get a pro-Cruz slate elected here.
An unbound female delegate was one of the last to go to Trump, giving him a majority.
So much for stealing a caucus state!
The ‘rules guru’ from Dakota believes the delegates should decide the nominee, entirely. Curley says all delegates should be unbound and there is no reason to hold primary elections.
This is still a problem that could arise for Trump. The rules committee is being stacked with Cruz delegates. Unlike, this delegate, these people will be unequivocally Cruz die-hards and scheming to rewrite the nomination rules for 2016 and beyond.
New Jersey is not irrelevant and Trump needs a huge show of support.
1. Break the record for the biggest ever RNC primary vote.
2. Demonstrate the NJ delegate sweep is 100% supported by the vote %.
3. Mobilize people to vote & volunteer in the November election.
4, It’s Trump’s next-door neighbor and it’s the neighborly thing.
I see it as a form of sweet revenge for their state being cheated out of the peoples right to vote.
Was the Colorado woman just by chance, or was she trying to put Trump over the top like this guy. Miss 1237 or Mrs.1237.
Poetic justice that Curly Haugland’s state put The Donald over the top.
LoL at that goof ball.
Works for me!
I’ll bet ‘ol Curley has him disqualified.
Disqualified? Exactly!
That is their final game plan at the convention.
1. The rules committee changes the rules to either allow ‘votes of conscious’ and disregards the 1st vote rule bound to the candidate. Or they make a new rule to impede Trump’s formal nomination.
2. The rules committee seeks to disqualify entire state delegations or certain individual delegates based on technicalities.
Not going to happen.
Trump will have more than enough delegates to win on the first ballot.
If it was a contested convention, all bets would have been off.
The GOP is not going to commit political suicide by dumping someone who won the nomination fair and square.
And rank and file Republicans are closing ranks behind Trump.
Historic moment. He will never forget it for the rest of his life. Thanks, John!
You mean Ted Cruz, right?
That part is not true. The Republicans have won every presidential election there since 1964.
