McConnell: System would constrain Trump (he will suddenly remember how to check executive power!)

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell will support Donald Trump and thinks the business mogul can win the presidency, the Kentucky Republican tells "CBS Sunday Morning."

To people afraid of a Trump presidency, McConnell sees protections in the system to prevent mistakes by the White House occupant.

"What protects us in this country against big mistakes being made is the structure, the Constitution, the institutions," McConnell tells Jan Crawford. "No matter how unusual a personality may be who gets elected to office, there are constraints in this country. You don't get to do anything you want to. So I'm very optimistic about America. I'm not depressed about the nature of the debate."

Where were the protections in the system to keep Barry from shredding the Constitution.

Where has McConnell been the last 7.5 years? Under some rock?

This is what happens when you have blackmailable officials in office. And, most are.

How come that system wasn’t used to constrain 0bama? I seem to remember time and time again the GOP just rolling over and playing dead, but now they will be willing to constrain Trump.

Only if you do your job, Mitch.

I could wrong but there will likely be some Trump supporters here cheering loudly if Trump starts to play loose with the Constitution.

What about all the changes to Obamacare that Obama conveniently just ‘made’ so the law wouldn’t look bad..especially during election time? What about the executive order granting amnesty to illegal immigrants? What about sanctuary cities? What about the latest transgender executive order? What about the Iran deal? What about caving on blow-out budgets?

What will happen is: all the liberal judges will suddenly awaken and try to put stays on every Executive Order Trump issues. Even those where he voids previous EOs.

I doubt Trump will play loose with the Constitution. That is way overplayed. Trump is a negotiator and negotiate he will do.

The GOPe poses no resistance to Democrats yet it marginalized and undermined the Tea Party every chance it got. The answer to McConnell and his ilk is to vote them out of office.

Yup just like the primary system is set up up to keep out those same “personalities”. How did that work out turtle?

Executive orders can all be undone with new executive orders. This is not in dispute....which is why Obama’s legacy is so flimsy.

For some reason, the rules are ALWAYS different for Democrats.
Lately, the rules for everyone else are being applied differently to Democrats.

"Executive orders can all be undone with new executive orders. This is not in dispute....which is why Obama’s legacy is so flimsy."

Don't be surprised if Trump after being sworn in as POTUS, takes an IPad and rescinds 99.9% of Obama's EO's before shaking hands with Obama and wishing him good luck in Cuba as Obozo's new home.

You don't get to do anything you want to.

Dear Mitch, Where have these balls you're displaying been for the last 8 years? Jugears has done what he wants with no opposition from you or any other supposedly republican member of congress. Jugears has a phone and a pen. Trump will do the same. In short, suck it. Sincerely, Me

To truthfully asses the situation, the Obama congresses have never had the raw political power to remove Obama from office. Although the House has the power to impeach with room to spare, there was never the power in the Senate to convict.

Although removal was much desired by many of the people, the political power to do so never existed.

I wonder if the founding fathers actually realized the method was next to impossible and favored an off the books coup that included a finality not present in impeachment

When McConnell starts screwing around with trump, he will not know what hit him...Trump will use the “bully” pulpit to lay McConnell out before the American people....
