California lawmakers seem intent on making Sacramento the place where reasonable reforms, much like runaway trains, jump the tracks. In that no-speed-limit spirit Tuesday, the California Assembly voted 41-37 to allow convicted felons to vote in jail. (Yes, you read that correctly.) If Assembly Bill 2466 becomes law, the American Civil Liberties Union estimates that 50,000 adults will be able to vote behind bars. The state doesnt trust these people on the streets, but they are welcome in the voting booth.
When individuals commit crimes that endanger public safety, they forfeit their civil rights upon conviction. The National Conference of State Legislatures notes that the concept of civil death goes back to the Greeks and Romans. In some states Florida, Iowa convicted felons are permanently disenfranchised. Virginia Gov. Terry McAuliffe recently made news by suspending permanent disenfranchisement by temporary order. No need for that in California. In 1976, voters amended the state constitution to end the permanent disenfranchisement of felons. The California Constitution now reads: The Legislature shall provide for the disqualification of electors while mentally incompetent or imprisoned or on parole for the conviction of a felony.
With such clear language, you would think that a measure to allow felons to vote behind bars would first have to go before voters as a constitutional amendment. But voters get no say thanks to an unholy alliance of California politicians, California courts and the ACLU. In 2011, Gov. Jerry Brown signed the Public Safety Realignment Act, which mandated that low-level felons serve their sentences not in state prisons but in county jails or under county supervision. It was Browns clever way of alleviating state prison overcrowding by moving felons to largely overcrowded jails.

The filthy DemocRATS will do ANYTHING for a vote.
The filthy DemocRATS will do ANYTHING for a vote.

Including selling their souls.
What a bonanza of pre-screened loyal democrat voters...
Of course, the American CRIMINALS Liberty Union are fully awayre that 97.4% of the Felon Community will vote for the Democrat candidate.
It is up to the states to decide if someone is disenfranchised from voting, as per the 14th amendment. California has not made such a disenfranchisement optional for any city, county, municipality or business such as a prison to waive at their leisure.
As so much has been declared a felony in this nation, I’m open to California and other states to lift this restriction.
After all, likely under California law, I’ve committed many felonies in my postings on FreeRepublic.
I kid you not. Several years ago Democrat legislator in California introduced legislation to require trains to DODGE any person who did not get off the tracks to avoid hitting them. It failed in committee, but did garner some approving votes from other Democrats, although not enough to pass out of committee.
Hillary counting on her fellow criminal felons to vote for a sister-in-crime.
But, but, but (O speaking here) — there are NO felons — only “justice involved individuals” JII’s —dontcha know.
Any thing to get reelected
Texas restores the franchise of felons, but only AFTER they have completed all prison, parole and any other conditions set by the court, such as restitution.
As an election judge, I have had one fellow vote the day he got off. He brought me papers from his PO attesting he had completed all obligations to the state.
Felons (soon to include incarcerated felons, who will have voting machines right in thee prisons?), illegals, but not climate "deniers", "homophobes", or anyone known to own a firearm -- it's coming, just watch 'em do it.
In moonbat California you’d think they;d have done this already. I’m shocked a few rats voted against it.
At least we can publicize the results of how the criminal scum will vote heavilly democrat.
Who? THE THUG CLASS - THE GOONS WHO BEAT UP TRUMP SUPPORTERS.
Go to any prison and the place is filled with more democrats than Detroit on a bad day. Of course Democrats want them to have the vote...
