The two teenage girls who are being accused of beating an elderly woman so severely that she had to be rushed to a New York City hospital have reportedly been turned in to police.
The New York Daily News reports that police are questioning the two suspects, with the first girl being brought in Friday morning by her mother after she recognized her from surveillance photos released by authorities after the attack.
The second suspect was brought in shortly after.
The young women were traveling together on a subway car Thursday afternoon when 78-year-old Norma Trotman reportedly approached the two and asked one of them if she could take her feet off the seat in order to make room for her to sit down.
Then, when Ms. Trotman got off at one of the next stations stops, the two teenagers allegedly followed her onto the subway platform and began to kick and punch her in her head and face before jumping on an approaching train and making their getaway.

Yeah, it is very funny as a “code”. See, comedy is the juxtaposition of two incongruous concepts.
Betty) “Oh hey, a group of teenage girls beat up a 78 year old woman”
Bill) “That’s awful, were the attackers Amish?”.
That’s why it’s funny. And it will remain funny as long as new reports put out descriptions like, the man who attacked the couple walking down the street was medium height, slender build, and wearing a blue shirt.

No father turned them in?
It’s a good sign that the mother turned one of them in. I can’t believe that this would happen on a crowded subway. There were a lot of things that I didn’t like about Atlanta, but I will say that _their_ subway system was very, very safe because of cameras and police, in and out of uniform, that would appear out of nowhere to bust a kid even dropping a candy wrapper. The subway had a zero-tolerance, no-BS policy. And the people who run it and police it are very, very black.
The "Amish" joke is a valued tradition on FR. In fact, it is a requirement for these types of stories. It is funny, we like it and we laugh . . .to keep from crying. So lighten up.
And it’s continuing predictive power is what makes it still relevant and funny.
“You mean it wasn’t an Amish guy? It was a black flashmob/knockout game/feral youth crime?”
People with low IQ have a very high self esteem/ego and don’t know their own limits.
Was the victim white or black? I didn’t find it in the story I looked
I thought the “Amish” joke was in reference to the Arab Mooslims. I always heard it as a statement about how violent the Amish were compared to the Moooslims - who as we all know - are the “religion of peace.” Which of course is absurd, since the Amish are among the most very genuinely peaceful people on the planet.
Oh, sorry. What perjorative term would you prefer for someone who is being a little too sensitive about an obvious and accurate ironic joke?
Prig? Hoity toit? Killjoy, prude? Just let me know!
Every time something happens with muzzies or "0's kids" you know that you're going to see the "Amish" quip within 5 posts.
Sort of like "shootouts are impossible in Chitcago, they have real strict gun laws".
There are others...
“A man’s got to know his limitations.”
Thugettes do too.
The joke is based on context:
If someone tries to attack an airliner, “Amish” can mean moslems.
If its a knockout game, or a fight involving 70 people in a mall, it means black.
>>>>>At least one parent did the right thing.
This.
That’s how you can tell a really good joke. It’s still funny after hundreds, or thousands of tellings.
“No,not Amishblack.
Enough with the Amish joke-its not funny.”
Thank you. You said what a lot of people were thinking.
What the hell does it matter what you call them??? They beat up an elderly woman and put her in the hospital...Call ‘em anything you want except human...
Yes, it’s good that this parent came forward. However, the fact that this happened at all, says a whole lot about the way these two girls think. To even harbor the thought of hurting someone over a reasonable request, especially someone elderly, would not have entered my mind at that or any age. They’ve been watching too many rap videos.
This may help them, if the girls have evolved enough to realize that they need help. I tend to doubt it.
The public shame of this episode just might cause them to think before they act. Future boyfriends, better beware of these gals. They have a mean streak.
But what also doesn’t make national news is how often black people in every day life are courteous, thoughtful and helpful to white people, and that’s despite the climate of racial distrust that the country is experiencing right now.
Like that just a few weeks back, I was waiting for a bus that’s always very, very crowded, having a small cart with groceries with me too. As the bus pulled up, a young black woman who worked at the supermarket, and who was ahead of me to get on the bus, stopped and motioned for me to get on first. That really was a relief to me, since there aren’t even any straps to hang onto on the bus, and I’m short besides being a middle-aged woman, and I had to think that girl knew she might end up standing on this crowded bus.
Then recently, also, I saw an elderly white man who has a lot of trouble walking about to exit a door where I work. Not far outside the door was a young black wooman smoking a cigarette, and she saw him and came over to open the door for him.
And let me just say, it isn’t just young black woman who can be kind. I don’t know how many times that black people of all ages, and yes black men, including young black men, have either done something considerate for me, or else I’ve seen them do so for others, and the past few years, too.
I also certainly don’t agree with how so many white Democrats want to portray racial issues, but there is truth to the fact that there is untruth and error all the way around.
It isn’t just to look at a crime committed by a black person and attribute it to the person being black, and then look at a very similar crime by a white person and attribute it to them being a sinner, “scum,” or mentally ill. It’s unjust in part because it’s not even logically consistent. And things like crime statistics and the existence of racial tensions don’t change that.
“Was the victim white or black? I didnt find it in the story I looked”
I looked online and couldn’t find any info. There are black women who have that name. Example: https://www.facebook.com/advok84kidz
