Gingrich in pole position to join Trump presidential ticket, say conservatives

Newt Gingrich’s prospects of joining the Republican presidential ticket as Donald Trump’s running mate are expected to get a boost from mega donor Sheldon Adelson, say three conservatives with links to Gingrich or the casino billionaire.

Adelson has pledged $100m to back Trump’s White House bid – and the sources familiar with Adelson and Gingrich said they think close ties between the two men who share ardent and hawkish pro-Israel views, should help the former House speaker’s chances.

Adelson has long been close to Gingrich, who had a hand in convincing him to back Trump last month, and the Las Vegas mogul is known as a hands-on donor.

“Given Adelson’s respect for Newt and that Gingrich encouraged Adelson to back Trump, it would make sense that Adelson has been pushing Gingrich for vice-president,” said one senior Republican operative who talks to Gingrich fairly often.

“Clearly Adelson knows Gingrich’s long-standing commitment to Israel, and having him on the ticket would give him great comfort,” said Rick Tyler, a former Gingrich press aide who stays in touch with him. Tyler, an analyst with MSNBC, said: “It would not surprise me if Adelson was promoting Newt for vice-president.”

Michael Epstein, a Maryland donor close to Adelson, who said last month he would vote for Trump but “hold my nose and pray”, feels better about Gingrich. “He’s extremely knowledgeable on foreign policy issues and understands the legislative process very well,” he said.

BTW, just because I post an article about Newt doesn’t mean I am hoping Trump selects him (or anyone else) as Veep.

As long as he knocks off the cheap shiite about La Raza’s judge being untouchable. Trump values loyalty.

Yeah.

Because bragging to the press about how you can personally BUY the VP position from Donald Trump for Newt Gingrich will make it happen Adelson...

Newt would be fine as a VP, at least we know he’ll be a pusher as a VP, unlike the one we have now who stays out of the limelight.

If Trump picks Newt as his VP....he will lose.

Personally...I think a lot of things.....

And I don't discount that Trump is in the tank.....with the Clinton's.

Hope I'm wrong..........

If the GOP retains control of Congress, then there would be no better choice than Newt to push Trump’s agenda through the mamby-pamby Congress. If the Dems take control of the Senate, then Newt would be the only candidate who’s got a track record of working in a bipartisan way to get the most done he can under that scenario.

If the Democrats win both the House and Senate, it won’t matter who is VP because we’re screwed.

Worst possible choice.

If he chooses Gingrich as his VP, he will lose the General Election.

Yeah, I think Newt really damaged his chance at VP by taking that sideswipe at Trump, if Newt really believed it he should have spoken with Trump privately about it, not gone on national TV and said it. That being said, Trump's rebuttal was pretty restrained and mild by Trump standards, essentially just saying that Newt shouldn't have said that, if Trump would have called Newt a "dummy" and a "loser" then you could have bet he was off the VP list....

If he can’t retract his criticism of Trump’s truth about the duplicity of racial and ethnic preference for persons in government positions, then I don’t want his ass anywhere near the White House.

You can't be that cynical. If Trump were secretly a Clinton supporter, there were far, far easier ways to make a Clinton presidency happen than what Trump did. How about letting Jeb! get the nomination? That would have been sure fire.

To my mind, there is no hidden conspiracy here. Trump is what he appears to be: an outspoken, forthright, patriotic American who wants to save his country from the abyss.

Newt s**t the bed with his public criticism of Trump.
I would be disappointed if Trump chooses him at this point. Such betrayal should NEVER be rewarded.

My top two choices are Hunter, Jr. and Sessions, in that order.

I think Newt has neutered himself by discussing this whole judge issue PUBLICLY, rather than privately.

I know there’s no perfect choice for VP, but my picks are now between Huckabee, Christie and Walker.
