Gun Shop Owner: AR-15's Flying Off Shelves at $500 a Pop

Since the Orlando nightclub shooting on Sunday, gun sales have rapidly increased throughout the United States.

Adventure Outdoors Owner Jay Wallace told Fox Business Network’s Stuart Varney that sales of AR-15s and other firearms have “really kicked up” since Sunday.

AR-15’s may look like military rifles but they are actually semi-automatic guns, which means they can only fire one round with each pull of the trigger. By contrast, military-style guns have the ability to fire multiple rounds with one pull of the trigger. The ‘AR’ in AR-15 actually stands for ArmaLite rifle, named after the company that developed it and does not stand for “assault rifle,” according to the National Shooting Sports Foundation.

Wallace claimed that he has sold more than 15 AR-15’s per hour and may know the reasons as to why there is such a rise in sales.

“... this elderly couple, most likely in their 60-70s, purchased a AR-15 type rifle...”

The fact that terrorists and thugs (redundant) have them is precisely why otherwise defenseless people would need them. Home invasions are on the rise, and the elderly are frequent targets. God bless them and keep them safe.

"Better buy one quick, the feds will ban these semi-auto rifles, but likely grandfather pre-law guns. CA, IL, NY, NJ and a few others may ban them outright."

And what will we do then, hmmmmm?

Answer: nothing. We chicken shi'ite cowards will thump our chests, blow lots of hot air on FReep, and do nothing. Like we always do.

The Founding Fathers are ashamed of us.

I purchased my first AR-15 at the tender age of 24 back in 1970.
I purchased my latest a couple of years at the age of 67. Wish I still had my first one.

“What would be a good variant for someone on a tight budget? Caliber, etc?”

My advice is to slow down and do a bit of study before making your purchase. Type in ‘AR-15’ on YouTube, and watch videos for a few days before you shop.

At their heart, these rifles are simple, but there are quite a few key areas of mechanical differences that you should familiarize yourself with so that you’re happy with your choice in the end.

"...the gun grabbers will get to that level."

And we'll stand back and let them, putting up no opposition at all, except for pounding a keyboard.

Thanks to the msm’s mis-reporting the Orlando weapon was an AR-15. Funny that the gun scared msm created more gun owners.

I haven't put it through it's paces yet. I have a PC S&W M&P 15 that I'm getting used to. It was doubling and S&W replaced the bolt. That seems to have fixed the problem. And then I've got a Sig 716 AR 10 that's a fine weapon. But I'll likely take the Ruger to the range next week.

I plan to keep iron sights on it. The other two have long range/higher dollar optics. Zeiss and Leupold. Fine target rifles.

” It was doubling and S&W replaced the bolt..” Careful, do I remember someone went to jail for their gun “bump firing” or something? Maybe someone in Ohio. Can’t remember the details. You know, full auto/selective fire mods. Which he didn’t do. Have fun at the range and watch out when driving through flooded streets, you never know when you could capsize. :)

Bump firing is different. Doubling is a mechanical malfunction but, thanks for the heads up. They fixed it. If I want full auto, my state allows it. But other than the novelty of unloading a magazine with a single pull of the trigger, I never saw a need for it.

Then again, "need" doesn't really enter into the picture, does it?

“Look for an increase as time goes on, car trunk sales of guns to get around new laws.”

Heh. Awhile back, during the so-called drug wars in the Bay Area, there were a lot of drive-by shootings involving “assault weapons” as well as a proliferation of school shootings with so-called “Saturday night specials” handguns.
Amid the outcry over ease of access to eeeevil guns, seems like I remember a story in one of the local papers.
Operating on the premise that any 12 year old can get a gun within minutes, a reporter approached some black kids outside a junior high school and asked if this was so.
One kid offered to run and get one for $50, and sure enough, returned within the hour and handed over a pistol.

So that’s an idea! Need a gun? Find a 12 year old gangbanger. LOL.
Be aware, though—most likely stolen, and you’re just as likely to be robbed and perhaps shot, too.

We "seniors" are the ones who gave you this mess in the first place. I wouldn't wait for "seniors" to make a difference one way or the other.

Sad but true and I are one.

These three kids may be some help.

I’m not interested in shooting any LEO but I will refuse to cooperate. I don’t know that throwing old men in jail will elicit opposition but I’ll try.

$650 and higher in my area depending on the manufacturer. I’m more of an AK or G3 man myself.

“What would be a good variant for someone on a tight budget? Caliber, etc?”

I would start with a Ruger 10-22 with some 25 cartridge magazines. These are the most under appreciated weapons made. Many a GI was killed with 22 cal sniper rifles in Germany. There are some YouTube videos showing that a 22LR can be fatal at 300 yards. In any case it is a cheap way to get familiar with shooting semi-auto.

I have a love affair with the Ruger Mini 14 since it is very similar to the rolling block M1 Carbine and Garand of my youth. Not cheap though, over a grand on their web site. You can probably pick up a M1 Carbine cheaper but the ammo is ridiculous, likely to pay 70 cents to a dollar a round. The 223 is just a hopped up 22.

Good Gun

Bad Gun

Same Gun Different Stock. Ruger Mini-14

By happenstance, some friends of mine bought another AR last Saturday. Given events, they’re glad they did.

Yep. Someone’s exaggerating. Or selling something pretty crappy.

AR = America’s Rifle!
Most popular rifle in the United States.
Every good citizen should have at least one, but preferably many more.

The above question was posed by poster demsux at post 19. You responded to my reply.

Great response, by the way. Very informative.

Re: uppers, lowers, easily swapped...

“They aren’t considered a ‘gun’ so there’s no red tape in getting one or more.”

H.R. 4269 Assault Weapons Ban of 2015 seeks to outlaw possession, sale, manufacture, and import of PARTS, too, as well as hundreds of types of guns. This is an attempt to criminalize build-it yourself hobbyists.

The bill is moving through committees and is in the Homeland Security committee now. Read the bill here.
