Nothing is free in life. Someone has paid for what you eat, wear, drink, live in and enjoy.

My dad has never been one for giving advice or uttering memorable things, but his dad sure was.

I remember once complaining to my granddad about how hard the company was working me. He looked at me and said, “Don’t worry about time off, boy. You’re going to get time off when you need it least.”

That simple, yet profound reply, changed my entire attitude about work, on the spot.

Clint Eastwood made the .44 Magum famous, but the .41 Magnum is a better gun.

As I walked away from my Dad toward the enlistment center in 1968.

“Only three things you should say: Yes Sir, no sir, and No Excuse Sir.”

Dad worked with OSI for many years, Korea Vet. I write books on our Constitution — and he died on September 17th, Constitution day.

Upon my trip to Europe in 1981, my Dad told his 20 year old son, “Don’t make me come bail you out of a Turkish Prison”. To this day, I remember those words when I travel internationally. Wise words from a wise man.

"Don't waste your time arguing with crazy people."

He was a barber, and would have to go to the nursing home to cut hair of people who lost their marbles. He said there was no point in arguing with them--like if they said, "Can't wait for it to be 1957 next year." Just agree with them and move on. No sense arguing with them and telling them what year it really is. It just upsets them, and it makes you crazy trying to set them straight.

Use that head for more than a hair rack!

Off your butt and on your feet, out of the shade and in the heat! And I mean now, mister!

And many others......

From my great-grandfather: I never do business with a man who quotes the Bible.

From my father: Don’t get married unless you meet someone you are absolutely certain you cannot live the rest of your life without.

“If you marry a girl from Los Angeles, then plan on living in LA. If you marry a girl from South Carolina, then plan on living in South Carolina. Don’t ever think that a girl is going to be happy living in Texas if her parents and family are in North Carolina.”
