Betrayed! 1,000 delegates to ditch Trump?

Betrayed! 1,000 delegates to ditch Trump?

Just when it appeared that the movement to dump Donald Trump as the GOP presidential candidate was defeated, it looks like it has come roaring back.

And this time, it may have more momentum than ever.

As many as 1,000 delegates to the Republican National Convention may have interest in a new push to ditch Trump and allow delegates to choose another candidate.

The new movement is calling itself “Free the Delegates,” and it’s rallying like-minded Republicans to prepare for a fight.

But critics argue that it is a petulant coup that would set aside the will of millions of voters who backed Trump.

According to insiders, the Free the Delegates movement plans to organize thousands of delegates in a plot to depose Trump with a convention rules change.

“Roughly 30 delegates from 15 states participated in a conference call Thursday night,” Yahoo! reported Monday. “Since then, however, [their] campaign appears to have picked up steam. A second conference call on Sunday night attracted an alleged 1,000 participants.”

According to The Washington Post, “The group is led by delegates seeking to block Trump at the GOP convention next month in Cleveland by changing party rules so that they can vote however they want — instead of in line with the results of state caucuses and primaries. It is quickly emerging as the most organized effort to stop Trump and coincides with his declining poll numbers.”

The Free the Delegates movement is also reportedly raising money for staff and a legal defense fund.

This establishment threat to Trump’s nomination has grown increasingly credible. The Associated Press has reported that more and more Republicans in Congress are saying they will not attend the party convention and are not endorsing his candidacy.

Trump wondered aloud Saturday who his opponents would pick as a replacement, a problem that has plagued the “Never Trump” movement for months.

“Who are they going to pick? I beat everybody. But I don’t mean beat — I beat the hell out of them,” he said.

Tell us what you think! Would you support another GOP candidate if Trump was dropped at the Republican National Convention?

I was not interacting on my own thread because I was engaged in other activities and was not on FR.

HST, I have read every post, and have responded to those I felt needed a response.

HSAT, the source of the article is not that important, IMHO.

What is important is the reaction to the article. If, for example, those of us who support The Donald spend the time and energy to work for his nomination and election as POTUS, then I have accomplished my objective.

What happens to America if the “Dump Trump” movement at the Republican Convention works?

Not gonna happen. Period.

“Cruz pledges his 600 delegates to Trump putting him over the top again.”

Perhaps, but I’m guessing that if these numbers are correct, most of them are Cruz supporters trying to get Cruz in, rather than a Romney or somebody like that.

I would need to look at what the rules are, but I always thought that it was up to the individual STATES on how the delegates are required to vote. There are about four states (North Dakota is one), where the delegates can vote their conscience if they like.

Here in the state of Washington, all of our delegates are Cruz supporters - but they are required to vote for the winner of the state’s primary (Trump) on the first ballot. I’m not sure what happens to them if they don’t though. Do their votes go to Trump anyway as required. Do they get fined? Dumped from the GOP? Get their Republican bumper sticker torn off?

Anyway - I’m thinking it is a state thing, not something that can be changed at the Convention. But I might be wrong.

A legal defense fund? Whoa. So they know they are doing wrong. Can Trump’s legal team compete with a crowd-funded defense team?

I wish I could just enjoy the drama without being sick that this is happening in my country.

You all wouldn’t leave when I said to (wearing tsarist jewelry tonight).

If we had, a year ago, we would not have this mess, and we would have had enough people for a third party.

But you let the Iran deal go through without quitting the party. And fast track for TPP. Nothing will matter now. Quit if you like now but we are already cooked by the New World Order.

I am not in favor of armed rebellion over this. This is party betrayal, not covered by the Constitution or the warnings of the Founders. Tell me if I’m wrong. And it wouldn’t be successful anyway. A lot of blood shed for nothing. I am not a coward. Just saying.

The main witch mentioned is the Colorado woman who decided the population of Colorado did not need to vote in the Rep primary. She and other did their voting before the actual public did. If you recall the voters in Colorado were highly PO’d.

No one wants to get in a shootout over these idiots. The issue would only come up if Trump is totally dumped. We the voters choose him and it is high time we run this damn country as our founding fathers conceived.

You say you’re not a coward yet you cower at the idea of defending your rights? Interesting doublespeak.
Only a third of the citizens of the colonies fought for our freedom and brought forth the United States of America. It appears only a third of our countrymen are willing to fight for our rights and freedoms once again.

Our contest is not only whether we ourselves shall be free, but whether there shall be left to mankind an asylum on earth for civil and religious liberty. Samuel Adams

All 67 Republican County Chairmen have passed a resolution unanimously. All of Florida’s votes go to Trump.

I HOPE THE GOP ROBS TRUMP AND PICKS SOMEONE ELSE.

THEN WE CAN PICK SOME OTHER N E W POLITICAL PARTY THAT WE CAN CREATE THAT IS REALLY AMERICAN....AND WANTS TO MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN.

.............................................................

Trump is the choice of the largest number of voting republicans in the history of the party. Wiser heads than yours understand that the way to make America Great Again is to flush the RINOs out of the party and STAND BY TRUMP.

I am also surprised at your tagline. IF you are a MARINE as you seem to claim, I must tell you I do not approve of your trashing the men who fought in Vietnam. Our fighting men WON THE BATTLES! It was the skinny assed, fat cats in Washington who TURNED VICTORY into DEFEAT. You are putting the blame on our men who fought by insinuating they didn’t fight to win. Time you studied some history and got your FACTS straight!

Probably not. But if he was denied the nomination, he could run as an Independent and siphon votes from those Republicans who vote straight party tickets.

(The sad result would be a Clinton victory and our beloved country slips into the abyss).

I’m inclined to agree. I think we’re in a period of liberal ascension and dominance that will last much of this century. It was too late several years ago. So be it.
