Many of you here have been on this fundamental precept for years. I want to add one thing. It was the protitution and hijacking of the conservative movement which facilitated “globalism” . “Globalism” is not conservatism. It is driven by “free trade” madness which has destroyed our industry, manufacturing, jobs AND it is driven the “New WORLD ORDER” crap which would totally destroy our national sovereignty. The unbelievable international interventionism, including invasion of sovereign countries which never did a thing to this country, is absolutely NOT conservatism. Bill Kristol and Paul Ryan claiming the “conservative” mantle against Trump for one reason. Trump is NOT a “free trade” capitulator. He is not a GLOBAL interventionist. With Trump ,it is AMERICA FIRST. A sovereign Nation with BORDERS. That cannot stand with those getting rich off of our national demise and calling themselves “conservative” .
Even the term “conservatism” is meaningless cant without reference to what is to be conserved.
Yes, with all mankind fallen, that is a trick question!
Globalism is not conservatism. It is driven by free trade madness ‘
Slick started it and W furthered it.
Good commentary, WENDLE. In my head, I've to sort all this stuff out. Let me sort out what I currently think about these economics issues. I'm reminded of the great book by Henry Hazlitt, Economics in One Lesson. And in that book he talks about the why unions don't raise real wages, and the benefits of free trade. However, the "One Lesson" itself is the most important piece and it goes something like:
So here's my thinking: Now the raise of national debt and the lack of jobs seem unrelated at first glance. However, when you have a lack of jobs, you must go into debt to pay for the welfare state. In the short run, living off debt relieves some of the pain, but in the long run it's a hidden cost for the people (younger generations) who have to eventually pay down on that debt. And if you allow companies to ship jobs overseas and sell products back into the US at no cost, you are gutting your manufacturing capability at home and destroying the American dream. At first glance, it seems like a bargain because everybody gets lower cost goods. However, you've taken away jobs from some people who will never get them back because the investment in a career of a certain type has been destroyed. Another element is restrictive regulations which especially hurt the entrepreneurs/small business who are needed much than big businesses to create local jobs. And the formula is further disturbed by the automation of so many jobs and the internet economy actually does away with many conventional jobs. And a lot of jobs can be easily moved overseas, including high skill jobs such as writing software. So the world's economy is in turmoil for a lot of reasons. It's very confusing, but the leader of a nation -- much like the CEO of a business or the breadwinners in a family -- has to make hard choices. With Hillary, you will no doubt get more globalization, more political stalemate (the UniParty) and she will favor allow the current gutting of the country to continue. She will also let the illegals and refugees come in at will, further eroding the low income population of the US. But with Trump, it's about taking direct action to start getting the ball moving in the right direction. Look, I'm trying to sort all this stuff out in my brain. Would appreciate if anyone can correct my view in areas where it's off base. |
Very well said!
May I borrow it?
The idea behind globalism started with the founding of the United Nations. That is what we must collapse before we can be certain that the idea is dead.
“It is driven by free trade madness which has destroyed our industry, manufacturing, jobs AND it is driven the New WORLD ORDER crap which would totally destroy our national sovereignty.”
“Free Trade,” like “Conservatism” are words that have been hijacked by people who are simply greedy bastards to whom wealth and power are their only goals. So for me, along with the politicians who should be hanging from lamp posts on Pennsylvania Avenue, there should be a equal number of “captains of industry.” Trump needs to completely server the connection between those with unlimited wealth and those we “hire” to govern!
AMEN! (yes, I shouted that!)
