I always thought George Harrison got a raw deal on “My Sweet Lord.”

Which means that Jimmy Page ripped off M. Ravel. Page actually plays on the song. From Beck’s “Truth” album. Ya can’t make it up. I wore that one out. I remember that the back of the album jacket said, “to be played at full volume.”

So if you go to a satan-worship meeting and record it and play it backwards do you hear “Stairway to Heaven”?

“They played a piece from some classical 1600 concerto this morning on a local radio station. Sounded identical...”

Led Zep’s lawyers made that point by saying the riff was a standard chord progression that has shown up in lots of pieces of music, and on which the plaintiff owned no copyright anyway, so how could it possibly be stolen, especially 40 years later?
3 strikes.
My question: what, exactly, is a “bustle in your hedgerow” and how can I tell if I have one?

"If you look at a lot of Pop, Country, or Blues Music, so many either borrowed or even stole certain chords, Riffs or whatever, anybody could bring suit against anyone."

Yep. Most rockers should be paying royalties to Chuck Berry, Little Richard and Jerry Lee Lewis.

Good! There is no such thing as stealing music.
All music is built on using previous riffs and melodies.

"Love Hurts" by Nazareth. My favorite Nazareth song, by far,"

That whole "Hair of the Dog" album just cooks. But my favorite song on it was "Whiskey Drinking Woman" and the guitar solos which end "Miss Misery".

Well, when I was in high school, a “bustle in your hedge row” meant a shapely young lady in full swing... ;-P

“If there’s a bustle in your hedgerow don’t be alarmed now.
It’s just a spring clean for the may-queen.”

(”What it is, it’s the beginning of Spring, it’s when the birds make their nests, when hope and the New Year begins. And it’s nothing to do with any of that weird stuff you read about in America!” Robert Plant. Meaning if the bushes are rustling, don’t worry, it’s the new wind of spring. The May queen.)

John Paul Jones is exceptional. He writes movie soundtracks too.

Favorite Led Zeppelin Album? My favorite is Led Zeppelin 3. That album showcases the exceptional talent of the band and its Celtic roots.

Yes, R.I.P. Randy California. I never knew Ed Cassidy was his step-father. That must have been a little odd for him - having a rock band with your step-dad and all!

“Now we need to get the world to ban the playing of Stairway to Heaven.”

Agreed. Way overplayed.
I was bar tending my way thru college when one night a guy came in and played it on the jukebox, over and over for two hours, while nursing one beer, and almost everybody else cleared out.
Finally the guy stands up, reaches in his pocket, and pulls out a ten and a two one dollar bills. He says, “Gimme another beer and a roll of quarters for the jukebox.”
I pulled out my billy club and slammed it down on his money, WHAP!, and told him, “Get outta my bar. Now.”

That song, along with “You’re So Vain” and pretty much anything by the Doobie Brothers or the BeeGees will make me turn off the radio to this day.

As the guys from ZZ Topp said "We are the same three guys playing the same three cords."

That riff in no way sounds like ‘Stairway’.

Pachelbel Rant ... "Pachelbel's following me ... All songs have the same d@** chords! Rock music is a joke; it's really just baroque"

I always wonder why people can take three chords and come up with a good melody. I can play the same chords and I can’t come up with anything worth listening to.

Diana, “putting it to music” is what’s copyrighted. Like Chet Atkins once said “It’s the Country MUSIC Association. Not the country poets’ association.”

Example: The Byrds TURN, TURN, TURN taken directly from the Bible
