Johnny Manziel's dad: 'My son is a druggie and he needs help'

Johnny Manziel's father, who predicted earlier this year that his son wouldn't live to see his 24th birthday if he didn't get help, says the troubled quarterback is "a druggie" and that he's done talking about him.

"If I have to bury him, I'll bury him. That's the fact," Paul Manziel told ESPN's Josina Anderson on Friday in a phone interview. "So if not, if he calls me and needs help, I'll go get him. Until then, he's on his own. I've done everything I can do. There is nothing [else] I can do as a father. Nothing. ... It is, what it is. He's a druggie and everybody needs to accept it."

"He has more money than me, so he can outrun me," Paul Manziel said.

"I mean, I hate to say it, but I hope he goes to jail. I mean, that would be the best place for him."

Earlier Friday, a lawyer for Johnny Manziel expressed doubts that he can stay clean.

Defense attorney Bob Hinton, who's handling Manziel's domestic violence case, revealed that Manziel may have spent more than $1,000 at a drug paraphernalia store just 15 hours after he was involved in a hit-and-run crash last week.

In a superficial way. It is that much the worse for the person if he learns how to live an earthly idea of clean but never will submit to a heavenly idea of clean.

The sad secret of humanity is that it needs help to face its lives in the way that God desires, which is the only way that matters in the end.

People can be very, very proud and say they do not need God in their lives, that it is just a bunch of human generated religion. Well some places that purport to be of worship DO act that way, but that doesn’t mean every approach to God must be that way.

Carroll O’Connor participated in a lampoon (All In The Family) of conservative ideas. That wasn’t entirely fair; not all people with conservative ideas carry them out like Archie Bunker. But even poor old Archie managed to find blessing in the stories.

Sometimes, souls whom the Lord has marked as targets for special roles fall into absolutely hideous lives for a season or seasons. I daresay it’s not over with Johnny until the proverbial fat lady sings. But he needs a face to face encounter with the God who puts the amazing into grace.

I agree with all that you say. I still think that Manziel’s father has simply ‘given up’ while there are still options, illegal though they are, open to him.

Manziel’s first drug addiction was alcohol. Who do we put to death for that?

That is tha nature of those who are addicts....restless, irritable, and discontented. Until they learn a different way it is all they can do

Manziel has taken from dazzling NCAA runs from defenses to now simply RUNNING FROM HIMSELF.

Manziel's father isn't helping him by constantly making statements to the press. He's said that he doesn't expect Manziel to live out the year - how can that possibly help his son? Constantly humiliating an addict to a huge public audience isn't going to encourage them to get help.

Instead of feeding reporters' desire to track his son's slow motion train-wreck of a life, Manziel's father would do far better to get his son into a treatment program. If he can't do that, he can at least shut up and stop airing his son out to the media.

Manziel has been through rehab and was participating in an aftercare program when he relapsed. He then refused to go back to rehab.

They tried to make me go to rehab
I said, no, no, no
Yes, I been black
But when I come back, you’ll know, know, know
I ain’t got the time
And if my daddy thinks I’m fine
He’s tried to make me go to rehab
I won’t go, go, go

These days a majority of addicts get their drugs for getting high through pharmacies. The dfference between street heroin and prescription narcotic painkiller Oxycontin is negligible. The prescription stuff is a better high because its pure.
We’re going to have to give the death penalty to physicians who over-prescribe and pharmacists who don’t ask and don’t tell when they fill prescriptions.
5% of the world’s population live in the U.S. yet we consume 75% of all the prescription drugs used on this planet.

I also blame our society for putting such a high value on sport jocks...

I can't imagine having a terrific athlete as a son or dtr...none of my kids cared for sports for the most part.....

it must be intoxicating thinking of your kid being the star first in grade school then hs and then college....

I imagine some parents would let them have every single thing they wanted, in fear that if they didn't, maybe it would spoil the potential of the kid...

some people believe that letting athletes run wild is just boys being boys...
