Some Kauai residents unhappy about wall being built by Facebook billionaire

KILAUEA, KAUAI — For years, Kilauea, Kauai resident Gy Hall has enjoyed the view of the ocean and the breeze along Koolau Road. Then, a few weeks ago, a crew started to build a wall which happens to belong to Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg.

“The feeling of it is really oppressive. It’s immense,” Hall said. “It’s really sad that somebody would come in, and buy a huge piece of land and the first thing they do is cut off this view that’s been available and appreciative by the community here for years.”

Hall said the wall extends along Koolau Road, near mile marker 20, and is about six-feet tall. He said its projected length and completion are unclear.

Multiple attempts by TGI to contact Shawn Smith, former Falk Partners manager, who Hall says sold some of the $200 million, 700-plus-acre property to the billionaire, were unsuccessful Friday.

Victor Davis Hanson:

But Zuckerberg also pays millions to separate himself from hoi polloi. He recently spent a reported $30 million to buy up houses surrounding his Palo Alto estate as well as other properties. That way he can enlarge his own environment and guarantee that his privacy is not impinged on by the wrong sort of neighbors.

Couldn’t he spend a comparable $30 million on affordable housing for illegal aliens, or at least allow a family or two to live next to him to provide easy mentorship about the difficult transition from Oaxaca to Palo Alto?

considering Larry Ellison bought a whole island a few years back, I guess if you’re rich, you can own a piece of Pele.. whereas everyone else is just a cheap transient.. or neighbor.

The absence of codes is what seems odd in that locale.

If the neighbors were so concerned about the future use of the property they should have purchased it themselves.

From that link:

“I hear fearful voices calling for building walls,” Zuckerberg said to packed room of developers and media. “Instead of building walls, we can help people build bridges.”

Zuckerberg said he’s concerned about more countries turning away from each other. “If the world starts to turn inwards, then our community will just have to work even harder to bring them all together.”

What a joke.

“...Lear Jet leftists...”

Who flies a Lear anymore? It’s G-550’s and G-650’s if you want to fly from the east coast to Hawaii non-stop.

We get a lot of private jets at my local airport. Lots and lots...

A Cessna Mustang sits on the tarmac - nice jet, $3,000,000 or so - next to a G-5 or G-550. The engine nacelles of the G-X are larger in diameter than the fuselage of the $3M Cessna.

Believe me, ZucA$$ has a LARGE Gulfstream. The largest Learjet only has a range of 2,000 KM.

Peace.
