In the anti-gun 1970s a TV movie was made about this staring Kurt Russell. Gun ownership was mentioned and not in a good way. At the end of the movie, the brain tumor was mentioned but covered with a loud voiceover advertising some other show.
it happened back then too, it’s just there wasn’t a 24/7 hour news cycle that desperately needed content for all of the 340+ channels on cable TV back then... and there wasn’t an internet or smartphones to rush the news to everyone’s eyes/ears within minutes of it occurring, even when nothing is known that soon and only the wildest rumors seem to spread so quickly so early.
20 years ago, it seemed like there was a postal worker going crazy and shooting up a USPS facility somewhere every month.
Some of that shooting was broadcast live——and was positively frightening.
That type of live reporting is routine now.

You’re playing games. the fact is, we have large mass shootings 3 or 4 times a year now. The smaller nuisance ones of 4 or 5 dead happen almost weekly. The tower sniper and Speck were so rare as to be almost unheard of. That why everyone knew about them.
Walking into a theater and killing as many as you could, never happened.
Walking into a school room and opening up on fellow students, never happened.
Walking into a sunday school class and killing people who had welcomed you in.. never happened.
Mass shootings on military bases... never happened.
There is a difference today, in quality and quantity of the mass murders today.

A few years ago this guy approached me downtown...I didn’t know if I was being panhandled or mugged.
