Wife Charged with Murder, Parrot Possible Star Witness

It's a case that could come down to what the bird heard, as a Michigan prosecutor decides if a parrot can be used as some type of witness in a murder case.

Family members believe an African grey parrot named "Bud" may have witnessed the fatal shooting of his owner.

Martin Duram, 45, was shot and killed in his Michigan home in May 2015 in what police first thought was a double homicide. Duram's wife, Glenna, had also been shot, in the head, but police realized an hour later she was still alive.

But last week, Glenna was charged with first-degree murder in connection with her husband's death.

In a video taken several weeks after the murder, the couple's African grey parrot named "Bud," who is now being cared for by family members, can be heard saying, "Don't f—ing shoot." The bird, family members say, can be heard mimicking both Martin and Glenna as if they were arguing.

"I personally think he was there, and he remembers it and he was saying it," Duram's father, Charles Duram, told woodTV.

How do we know the parrot didn't do it, and made a deal with the prosecutors.

That might soon be an EX-parrot.

Check Ft Mercy Park for a parrot with a few million volts through it.

I know this is a serious matter. But that's hilarious.

This article has been around for the last month. Still no trial yet. I have heard the parrot speak, and it’s not fully clear what he’s saying. The parrot speaks in a muffly, helter-skelter manner, the way many big birds do just to draw attention to themselves. He may be remembering conversation from the murder scene, or it may be from a previous argument the couple had in that room.

I recall the murdered man’s parents as being totally convinced that his widow is the one who killed him. Even if a guilty verdict is the result, the widow’s lawyer can say that her in-laws’ repeated TV interviews resulted in his client (the widow under suspicion) being in effect ‘tried in the court of public opinion, and a retrial with a new jury or a judge would be appropriate.

He’s certainly an albatross around the wife’s neck.

Putting the bird on the witness stand would be the media event of the year. Just think what it could do for the animal rights wackos.

Problem is, if the bird perjures himself, can you put him in jail when he’s already in a cage?

The African Gray is among the best talkers that there are, but I’m not guano bet on the outcome of the trial.

When he gets up to the stand, you will hear the parrot say “I know nothing, I didn’t see nothing, or I end up upside down stiff, got that, stupid bird? Got that, stupid bird?”
