Clinton Labor Secretary Warns Against July 4th ‘Americanism’

Robert Reich wants Americans to be vigilant this July 4 against “exclusive patriotism” that “asserts a unique and superior ‘Americanism.’”

(Daily Caller) – Former Secretary of Labor in the Clinton administration and current University of California Berkeley professor Robert Reich wants Americans to be vigilant this July 4 against “exclusive patriotism” that “asserts a unique and superior ‘Americanism.’”

“We hear a lot about patriotism, especially around the Fourth of July. But in 2016, we’re hearing about two very different types of patriotism. One is an inclusive patriotism that binds us together. The other is an exclusive patriotism that keeps others out,” Reich writes.

Reich claims that “we’re now hearing a strident, exclusive patriotism. It asserts a unique and superior ‘Americanism that’s determined to exclude others beyond our borders.”

Reich, who served as Bill Clinton’s secretary of labor from 1993 to 1997, cites supporting tax cuts, building a border wall and celebrating entrepreneurship as examples of “exclusive patriotism.”

“Donald Trump famously wants to ban all Muslims from coming to America, and to build a wall along the Mexican border to keep out Mexicans,” he says. “Exclusive patriotism tells us to fear foreign terrorists in our midst — even though almost every terrorist attack since 9/11 has been perpetrated by American citizens or holders of green cards living here for a decade or more.”

“Inclusive patriotism instructs us to join together for the common good,” he says. “Such patriotism requires taking on a fair share of the burdens of keeping America going — including a willingness to pay taxes.”

“Exclusive patriotism,” on the other hand, “celebrates the acquisitive individual and lone entrepreneur. It tells us that taxes on the wealthy slow economic growth and deter innovation.”

“Trump wants to reduce the highest income tax rate to 25 percent from today’s 39.6 percent. No matter that this would result in higher deficits or cuts in Social Security, Medicare and programs for the poor. They’re supposedly good for growth.”

Reich goes on to ask, “So will it be inclusive or exclusive patriotism? A celebration of ‘us’ or contempt for ‘them’?”

“Inclusive patriotism is our national creed. It is born of hope. Mean-spirited, exclusive patriotism is new to our shores. It is born of fear,” Reich writes.

Reich endorsed Bernie Sanders in February but has since instructed Sanders’ supporters to “Be prepared to work hard for Clinton if she gets the nomination.”

Earlier this year, he wrote an article for Salon calling Trump a “21st century American fascist.” “Trump’s entire foreign policy consists of asserting American power against other nations. Mexico ‘will’ finance a wall. China ‘will’ stop manipulating its currency,” he wrote.

When you’re going to trash Americans, STAND UP BOBBY! Oops! Sorry Bobby. I didn’t see the stool you’re standing on, little man.

Important note: the display of the flag causes many Americans to feel more patriotic for as long as two weeks, and these feelings *exclusively* benefit conservatism and the Republican party. And they may even be enough to affect a close political election.

Equally importantly, liberals and leftists *do not* feel increased patriotism, and the Democrat party actually *loses* support with the display of the flag.

Because of this, more and more Democrats and leftists have taken to try and limit flag display, as well as to vandalize, steal and destroy American flags, if they think they can get away with it, even in cemeteries.

It is no longer just a “children being wicked” excuse. Often these are adults, who will trespass on your property, and perhaps set your flag on fire, endangering the safety of you and your family, in an act of bitter rage and hate against our national flag.

It is criminal, and it is intolerable. And because the law does not prescribe any adequate punishment for it, punishment is likely the responsibility of the average citizen to carry out.

Robert ‘Fourth Reich’ is as much a Nazi Socialist as was Hitler’s ‘Third Reich’. Time for a reenactment of Nuremburg for this loser and his like...Perhaps a lighted ‘Cherry Bomb’ up the backside of each of these left-wing Nazi Socialists.

Take down the crucifix, obliterate prayer in schools and public meetings and join the rabble Muslims and Mexicans in defacing the American flag!

Dis ain’t your America anymo’! You didn’t do nuthin’ to make it great....

which is probably the truth over these past 40 or more years.

How many younger ‘Americans’ know what Independence Day is really about?

Reminds me of when I was in LA years ago. Lots of billboard ads for Fosters with Australian imagery and the banner imported on them. So I eventually get a can and start looking at the label. Brewed in Canada. LOL

I thought “Tax Independence Day” i.e. the day of the year where we work from the beginning of the year to that date just to pay our taxes, was July 24 or something.

I’m going to Maine next month. Right on the bay.

It’s nice here too but I just learned that it may rain around 7pm. So boasting the grilling up a few hours. Beautiful and peaceful right now.

There, fixed it.

"an inclusive patriotism that binds us together"

And the defenders of this "inclusive patriotism" support open borders and the handing over of of American sovereignty to the non-democratic rule of international elites. The Brexit controversy leaves no doubt as to what they really think of patriotism.

Oh, so he wants the 30% of Americans who pay no income tax to start contributing? My total tax bill (income/property/sales/etc) is upwards of $12,000 a year on a retirement income of under $70,000.
