Donald Trump met Thursday with former GOP presidential rival Sen. Ted Cruz and Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus in Washington, a source told CNN.
The meeting is the first time Cruz and Trump have met in person since the Texas senator dropped out of the presidential race after losing the Indiana primary more than two months ago.
The source could not say what the men discussed as they conferred at the National Republican Senatorial Committee headquarters where Trump also met with several dozen Republican senators on Thursday.
The Texas senator has so far refused to endorse Trump, but has not ruled it out.
While Cruz resisted criticizing Trump in the initial months of the GOP primary campaign, Cruz would eventually become one of Trump's fiercest rivals -- and the last remaining legitimate challenge to Trump's campaign to win the Republican presidential nomination.
And the final weeks of Cruz's campaign were dominated by Trump's personal attacks against the Texas senator and his family as the fight between the two men grew increasingly bitter and personal.
In late March, Trump threatened to "spill the beans" on Cruz's wife after an anti-Trump super PAC unaffiliated with Cruz's campaign pushed out a series of digital ads aimed at portraying Trump's wife in a negative light. And Trump would later also retweet an unflattering picture of the Texans' wife alongside a glamorous shot of his own wife with the caption "the images are worth a thousand words."
And as Indiana's Republican voters headed to the polls, Trump again turned to the personal, accusing Cruz's father of being involved in the assassination of President John F. Kennedy.

That’s the message I’m getting
Yeah, Señor Cruz was just passing out leaflets. It was Poppy Bush who has a lot of splainin to do re Kennedy’s assassination. Trump best keep that to himself.
I agree that there are far too many sore winners here on FR. I was and am a Cruz supporter, and find that some threads are unreadable based on the vitriol still being spewed against Cruz and his supporters. How do you expect everyone to sing kumbaya for Trump when we are continually villified? I will vote for Trump, just because of Hillary, but will not work to get Trump elected like I would have if he had behaved in a more statesmanlike fashion to his fellow Republicans.
Maybe you need to get a grip Even most Trump supporters admit he is not a conservative
Cruz has $8 million in his campaign fund right now and doesn't need jack squat from Priebus. I wonder if Goldman Sachs will donate to the Trump campaign. I'll bet Trump hopes so since he's no longer self funding.
Trump hasn’t taken any GS money. He just got 50 million in small donations.
Some Cruzers still think the world revolves around them and we need to kiss up to them and beg them to vote for Trump.
I agree. I posted yesterday that Santorum was the VP pick nobody was talking about. Trump is serious about PA and Santorum is from western PA. For Trump to win Pennsy, he will need to win it primarily in the western suburbs that have been devastated by poor trade deals. Also, Santorum ran a credible 2012 race, has credibility with evangelicals, could help in Iowa, Ohio and Michigan, is a bridge to the GOP without being overly tainted by them, and is close to Trump on many issues including trade. The only drawback is that he hasn’t won anything on awhile and has been out of Senate for 10 years, although Newt has been out of Congress for nearly 20 and I’m a lot more comfortable with Santorum than Newt.
What you said.
Cruz and Little Marco could put an end to all this stuff by endorsing Trump unconditionally.
“it’s going to take drastic measures to save it”
2016 - Rubio(to get Hispanic votes)+Kasich(to get independent votes) ticket
2017 - permanent tax/fee/fine cap+balanced fiscal year (after 2024) Constitutional amendment
proposed in an immigration amnesty bill
with a 90-day deportation moratorium
upon ratification - immigration amnesty effective
What massive egos on them. Build a bridge and get over it.
Someone needs to rinse prewash.
Excellent analysis.
Trump didn’t say that. It’s a lie.
What is your source? It only appears to be someone who looks like Cruz's dad may have looked back then.
That’s a long way from the $1 billion he’s going to need. I’ll bet he gets donations from them. He’s a good customer and GS doesn’t like to to be on the bad side of any trade. Let me know when he returns their money.
[Reading this Im reminded of the personal attacks Trump made on Mrs. Cruz. That was below the belt and very middle school.]
The allow me to remind you of the disgusting attack Cruz’s hit squad (PAC) made on Melania in Utah.
Also, Cruz’s support of the Chicago protesters/Bernie supporters/BLM, and subsequent criticism of Trump, how was not at fault.
Add on the countless lies and smears from Cruz campaign...
Yup
[ But Cruz could make good impeachment insurance. ]
Seriously?? I would bet if Trump has Cruz as VP, Trump will have the biggest target on his back from the Cruz-supporting NeverTrump psychos.
It’s not coincidental Cruz’s father had connections with Oswald...
Put 2 and 2 together!
