Does personal experience and the propensity to commit crime based on certain characteristics (sex, age, race) matter?
Don’t place your hands on the coils of a stove because it might be hot. Is that prejudice or simply good judgment?
I don’t hate hot stoves, I just know to take due care when being around them.
Police and soldiers in war - those not in that group can’t understand what they experience.
Police see the worst of society. Police sometimes have to decide whether them or the other guy’s going to get killed.
Remember when Jesse Jackson said that if he were being approached on a sidewalk by a black in a hoodie he might move to the other side of the street. Blacks are partly responsible for a policeman’s more aggressive approach to them. It’s a reputation that’s reinforced by their music and role models.
I have policed (many years ago) and know and have known police officers, and know them to be color blind. More so than any group of people in society, including my dear friends in the pew.
