Sessions: 'I haven't pushed Trump to have a general' as VP
Politico ^

Posted on 07/10/2016 8:31:53 AM PDT by conservative98

When it comes to Donald Trump's thinking about his running mate, Alabama Sen. Jeff Sessions says he has not advocated for the presumptive Republican nominee to have a military general on the ticket.

Retired Army Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn has been reportedly vetted for vice president, and "Fox News Sunday" fill-in host Shannon Bream alluded to a Washington Post story Saturday that reported the Alabama Republican is "encouraging Trump to perhaps choose a general."

"I have not pushed him to have a general," said Sessions, who himself is seen as a top contender for the position, adding, "I have said something nice about General Flynn. He was a defense intelligence commander, three-star general, he knows the secret world of what's going on around the world militarily. So I am a high friend of his and appreciate what he does. But they'll make their own decision about vice president."

As an arrant supporter of President Trump, I am stunned that he would consider any military figure as Vice President. Different skill set needed.

Need a competent general retired by Brack Obammy to be Secretary of Defense. Now we have the AC/DC Ass Carter who shares Obammy’s desire to emasculate the military.

A competent Conservative general could be Secretary of State.

Yes, but are you stunned that the lying MSM would SAY that Donald Trump is considering a military figure as Vice President? I think that Donald Trump is economizing on his vetting dollars by vetting the whole cabinet “searching” for a VP.

No generals. After Schwarzkopf was the last true general that I’d halfway trust. The others are wuss, or they want us all to enjoy the childlike life of living on a military base, from coast to coast. No guns, do what you’re told, cut your grass, obey, globalism.

Flynn may be and OK guy but:

1. He’s a Democrat so the odds are very much against the OK part.

2. Trump the Warmonger selects a General for VP - Coming Soon to your TV.

A general has the common skill set as any CEO today; operates a budget in the millions, leads thousands, ensures command structure is in place and moral is high, commands a company if you will with directs of directs of directs. A large number of Generals go on to lead successful business lives when they retire.

So what skill set is lacking? I’d take a general who has actually led over a politician with a law degree who has been spooned their entire lives and told how great they are. I’ll take a general everyday of the week and twice in Sunday. See a general has had to climb through the ranks by displaying clear leadership evidence and attributes

This idea seems to be one favored by Trump himself, and I trust his judgement. We may be heading into an era where having a #1 with detailed knowledge of military and world affairs may be more important than having one who is adept at political maneuvering. If we are pulled into a global war the legislative agenda will not mean much.

Flynn is also bad at defending the whole terrorist torture thing. The MSM would love to open up that can of worms again.

It’s the “If all you have is a hammer, everything looks like a nail” problem.

Generals should manage armies and navies.

Trump can’t govern if he doesn’t win. HE needs somebody already able to operate in the nuclear warfare of this campaign season. That is pretty much only Newt & Sessions in my book. Anybody else is a risk.

Flynn is a pro-abort Dem. We don’t need that as VP.

Flynn should be the next Director of National Intelligence.

I'm looking forward to reading his book when it comes out this week:

The Field of Fight: How We Can Win the Global War Against Radical Islam and Its Allies, by Lieutenant General (Ret.) Michael T. Flynn (Author), Michael Ledeen (Author)

Agreed. We need someone who can easily debate all subjects: economy, trade, etc, not just foreign policy.

What skill set is lacking? Seeing citizens as superior. Understanding that what we want comes first and not seeing everyone as a subordinate. That’s the main thing they lack.
