CLEVELAND COUNTY, NC (WBTV) -
The sheriff of Cleveland County says his deputies were taunted by employees and served tampered food at a fast food restaurant while taking a lunch break in their uniforms.
Sheriff Alan Norman confirmed the accusations to WBTV after a post was made online by the wife of a deputy.
"As they walked up to place their orders, the boys in the back cooking the food started yelling at them and calling them names," she wrote about her husband's trip to the Zaxby's restaurant in Shelby.
She said her husband and his partner, who were both on duty and in their uniform, ignored the insults and continued ordering.
"Then, as they sat down to eat their food, my husband realized [they] had put the hottest sauce possible on [his] wings - to the point where his food wasn't even fit to eat," she continued.

I think that Zaxby’s will lean on that franchise that the culprits be fired, simply for notorious bad customer service.
However we don’t have royalty in the USA — there are no lese majeste crimes.
Hope the DUmmies tainting food enjoy their Federal charges, many thousands in penalties and facing years in prison.
You don’t mess with the customer’s order.
Pain, suffering, emotional trauma, employment discrimination, etc.
Nothing would be considered legally tainted here. It was the mis-preparation of a recipe.
That is a punishable offense. The person who did it should be arrested.
And a countersuit for bringing frivolous lawsuit and ridicule in the press.
Under no law that exists.
Sorry, you don’t know what you are talking about: http://www.slate.com/articles/news_and_politics/explainer/2009/04/is_it_really_illegal_to_put_boogers_in_a_sandwich.html (Yeah, it’s Slate, but accurate.)
Boogers were not put in any sandwich here. So you are the one who does not know what she is talking about.
A worker at Dairy Queen put something in the blizzards and went to jail near me.
To belabor the point, are boogers a food certified ingredient? (No.) Then buzz off with your self righteousness.
Please explain the nature of that something.
You can be charged with a Class I felony for knowingly distributing food that could cause “mild physical discomfort without any lasting effect.”
That’s in North Carolina, which is where this occurred.
Want me to cite statutes?
Oh, you just read the headline instead of the actual article or looking up the actual law.
Nevermind. Not wasting my time with you anymore.
These people are not very smart. Now they’re going to wonder why blacks are no longer hired at restaurants. Honestly, some of them seem to bring on their own problems.
This is another thing Jesse Jackson can take the credit for. He recounted early in life when as a server, he’s would spit in white peoples food and then enjoy serving it to them. SSDD.
You get what you pay for. And I doubt they paid. Cops get free food in just about every restaurant. I think it should be illegal. When I was a cop I turned it down and always paid. My sergeant taught me that.
However, any employee who yelled insults should be fired. Not necessarily for insulting a cop. But for insulting a customer...period.
There's all kinds of idiots serving decades in prison, that used to work fast food on the outside putting floor-sweepings, glass shards, spit, feces, in customers' food. It's a serious Federal offense.
There’s an Indian restaurant I frequent that has variable levels of heat, depending on whether Chef Omar (really!) is feeling his oats or not.
I actually like the variety of heat levels he produces “at whim”. It makes for a more diverse series of flavours in my meals when there.
They would be wise to pack their lunches.
