Attorney: Yale Calhoun dining hall worker who broke window wants his job back
The New Haven Register ^ | July 13, 2015 | Ed Stannard

NEW HAVEN >> Yale University has told the dining hall worker who broke a window pane depicting slaves that it will seek to have charges against him dismissed, and a prosecutor said Wednesday the state tries not to pursue property crimes where parties work it out.

David Strollo, supervisory assistant state’s attorney for the New Haven Geographical Area, said he couldn’t comment specifically on Corey Menafee’s case, but said, “Generally speaking, as a practical matter, the state’s not interested in this type of thing,” specifically “property crime vs. going out and hurting somebody.”

“If the parties come to a resolution on their own, generally the state does not continue to be involved in a property crimes case,” Strollo said.

The next step, said Menafee’s lawyer, Patricia Kane, is trying to get her client’s job back.

“The charges are going to be dropped against Mr. Menafee,” said Kane, who took Menafee’s case on a pro bono basis just before he appeared in court Monday on charges of second-degree reckless endangerment, a misdemeanor, and first-degree criminal mischief, a felony.

...

“He does want his job back. He’s got a family to support,” Kane said. “He likes his job … he likes his colleagues.” Menafee is married and has two children, Kane said.

“I think Yale would do well to cooperate” and return Menafee to the job in Calhoun College that he held for eight years, Kane said. “I think it would be a good gesture. Yale is in transition on these issues and it would show they’re interested in doing the right thing.”

Probably so. But Yale hasn’t been about classic ideas of civilization for years, anyhow. It will be a yielding that yields no lasting satisfaction to those calling for it.

A God’s eye view is going to be necessary. Yale began as a religious university, but the faith portion of it has gone away.

And as difficult as it is to share sometimes, people are going to have to learn once more that God is not going to put up with infinite shenanigans either. Dance with the devil to the end, and you go to the same hell that he will. Logical, no?

We’ll consider it after you have satisfied your prison sentence.

“I think it would be a good gesture. Yale is in transition on these issues and it would show they’re interested in doing the right thing.”

Taking it easier on blacks than the rest of society is the worst form of racism.

I can understand why he was angry...

Everybody gets angry at perceived injustices...

More than once I thought I received slower or bad service from blacks because I was white...

I didn’t throw a chair though Mickie D’s window...

He looks like he might have been walking along the sidewalk on Elm St when the glass started flying. On his way to having his head curated at the Peabody Museum.
