RNC Chairman Priebus 'Apoplectic' Over Trump's Refusal to Endorse Ryan
NBC News ^ | Aug 3 2016, 12:22 am ET | Katy Tur

Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus is "apoplectic" over Donald Trump's refusal to back House Speaker Paul Ryan or Sen. John McCain, a top Republican source said.

Priebus called several Trump staffers, including campaign manager Paul Manafort, to express his "extreme displeasure" with Trump's comments, the source with knowledge of the conversations told NBC News.

Trump, in an interview with The Washington Post published Tuesday, said of Ryan "I'm not quite there yet" — echoing language used by Ryan when he was reluctant to endorse Trump in May. Ryan eventually endorsed the GOP nominee. A spokesperson fro Ryan said Tuesday neither Ryan nor anyone on his team sought an endorsement from Trump.

The friendship between Priebus and Ryan goes back decades. Priebus was the GOP chairman for Ryan's congressional district before he was the state party chair. Ryan credited Priebus with the Republican takeover of Wisconsin in 2010.

There was talk Tuesday that key Republicans could come out against Trump. If Trump falls further in the polls, the party could come up with a backup plan to protect downballot races, the source said. "We have to figure out how to tread water," the source said.

Trump said “Im not quite there yet”.

Isn’t this -verbatim- what Ryan said about Trump a few weeks ago?

Somehow, I don't think Trump is going to get around to "endorsing" ryan...

We'll see how big this story blows up. Six days until the voting.

TFB, MF.

Come out against trump, and I’ll vote against every R on my ticket except Trump.

I’m tired of this BS party.

“The move marks a big about-face for Ryan, who four weeks ago declared he was “not there yet” in terms of endorsing Trump and questioned whether the controversial businessman was even a conservative.”

from a June 2nd Washington Post story.

Trump just did this on purpose. he used the exact words Ryan used against him when he was late to the party. trump simple did exactly what Ryan did to him. Love this.

I got my new Voter registration card with Conservative replacing Republican.

Though I thought George Will was a conservative and look what he did.

Doesn’t Contitution Party fit most of us here the best?

Just wondering.

Me too! That slimeball Meg Whitman is putting on the nose-in-the-air routine now, and is going to help HRC. This is good, though. Trump has the chance to expose the whole 1%-er shebang for what it is.

Allegedly-apoplectic?
That's it?Ryan isn't fit to serve decent Americans in Wisconsin, he's a dirty crook using the government to launder money for Hillary, and he's voting for her as well.

It's long past time to tell Paul Ryan that he's fired.

Yes. That’s what the article mentions.

Publish fake polls, give scumbag politicians cover to ‘denounce’ Trump, hope polls become reality. Wash, rinse, repeat.

As far as Trump not supporting Ryan and McCain, Priebus should be calling those two camps and telling them to STFU. It’s not Trump’s responsibility to support self-interested, amoral, unprincipled, corrupt backstabbers.
