CHICAGO--Health insurance premiums for Illinois residents who buy coverage through the Affordable Care Act's marketplace could increase by as much as 45 percent according to proposals submitted by insurers and made public Monday.

The leading insurer on Illinois' exchange, Blue Cross Blue Shield, is proposing increases for 2017 ranging from 23 percent to 45 percent for individual health care plans, according to proposals posted by Heathcare.gov. Another insurer, Coventry Health Care of Illinois, proposed rate increases as high as 21 percent.

Harken Health Insurance Company has proposed a nearly 29 percent hike in individual premiums and Health Alliance Medical Plans Inc. a more than 28 percent increase.

In a statement, Health Care Service Corporation, which operates Blue Cross Blue Shield of Illinois, said that although no final decision has been made, the proposed rates are in line with those in many markets across the country. People get the government they deserve. When you elect crooks don’t be surprised when they steal from you.

Imagine how much more the insurance would have gone up if it wasn't Affordable Care?

And here some of the biggest names in corporate America were all gung ho to get on these plans.

Why did they ever think they could trust Obama? Why do they think they can trust Hillary?

Donald may have plans they don’t like, but he’s going to be honest about it. He won’t make a sugar sale to them and then ship them cyanide.

The end of Obama care doesn’t come without the beginning of ‘single payer.’

It’s a two-edged sword, with the pathetic RINO’s we have now.

Don’t get too giddy.. this meltdown was the plan all along. Look for the Rats to now propose “single-payer” as the only possible fix to this mess. The enemedia will, of course, fail to point out that the Rats created the mess in the first place.

Makes it really easy to fly below that 8% rule and not pay a penalty if you don’t have insurance.

Oh, lovely. So, if I understand the logic correctly, the government screwing this thing up like a soup sandwich should inspire us to place ALL of health care in whose hands? That’s right, the screw-ups! Because the only thing to do for a guy who just blew a finger off with a fire cracker is to give him a stick of dynamite.

Everything Obama does is destructive. Yet he was elected twice. People must like being conned and lied to.

If Hillary is elected the end is in sight but single payer will be on the lips of every Washington politician to fix this fourth world health care system! Bet Levin will love this and the rest of the principles gang.

The Obamunists scheduled the sign up period so that the pain of failure won’t become clear until after the election. Until then, all we can do is talk about what’s coming.

People receiving the extra cost sharing subsidies are saving a bundle. Besides greatly reduced monthly premiums, they also have lower co-pays, etc. Congress has sued CMS, saying they haven’t funded the additional cost sharing program.

I guess I just take issue somewhat with non Illinois residents saying things like “People get the government they deserve. When you elect crooks don’t be surprised when they steal from you....”

I am not sure how much the elected Illinois officieals have to do with this particular fiasco—They are involved with plenty of fiascos, but not necessarily this one...

I live in IL, I did not vote for Obama, or any of the other usual suspects. I don’t deserve it because I did not vote for crooks any more than you or any other Republican deserve Obamacare, etc. because I am sure you did not vote for Obama.

I appreciate your point about Obamacare. But as to other fiascos, consider that Illinois has one of the highest state debts (including unfunded liabilities) in the nation. As they say, elections have consequences. To wit (from the link below):

Kentucky, Illinois, New Jersey, Massachusetts, and Connecticut rank in the bottom five states, largely owing to the low amounts of cash they have on hand and their large debt obligations.

Each state has massive debt obligations. Each of the bottom five states exhibits serious signs of fiscal distress. Though their economies may be stronger than Puerto Rico’s, allowing them to better navigate fiscal crises, their large liabilities still raise serious concerns.

Unfunded liabilities continue to be a problem. High deficits and debt obligations in the forms of unfunded pensions and healthcare benefits continue to drive each state into fiscal peril. Each holds tens, if not hundreds, of billions of dollars in unfunded liabilities—constituting a significant risk to taxpayers in both the short and the long term.

The bottom five states have changed since last year. Kentucky’s position has declined, placing it in the bottom five this year. New York is no longer in the bottom five. New Jersey and Illinois improved slightly, but remain in the bottom five. Connecticut and Massachusetts also remain in the bottom five, in slightly worse positions than last year.
