Violence and protests erupted in Milwaukee overnight after a man was fatally shot by police during a foot chase.
Police said the victim, 23, was armed with a handgun and shot dead by an officer after fleeing a traffic stop on Milwaukee's north side Saturday afternoon.
Hours later angry crowds took to the streets, smashing a police car and setting fire to another. One officer was injured by a flying brick; a gas station and auto-parts store were set alight. Police said gunshots were heard.
Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett pleaded for calm at an early morning news conference, asking residents to "do everything" to help restore order.
"If you love your son, if you love your daughter, text them, call them, pull them by the ears and get 'em home," he said.

The Knoxville riot of 1919 was a race riot that took place in Knoxville, Tennessee, United States, on August 30–31, 1919. The riot began when a lynch mob stormed the county jail in search of Maurice Mays, a mulatto man who had been accused of murdering a white woman. Unable to find Mays, the rioters looted the jail and fought a pitched gun battle with the residents of a predominantly black neighborhood. The Tennessee National Guard, which at one point fired two machine guns indiscriminately into this neighborhood, eventually dispersed the rioters.
After the riot, many black residents left Knoxville.

Milwaukee’s mayor said the man was struck twice — in the chest and the arm — and that he believes the officer involved had a body camera on at the time of the shooting.
Milwaukee Police Assistant Chief Bill Jessup told the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel newspaper it wasn’t clear if the gun was pointed at the officer.
“Those additional facts will come out in the coming days,” Jessup said.”
I hope the body cam can shed some light on this story. If it shows the man pointing/shooting at the officer then we know it was a life or death situation. If we find that he had a gun in his pocket, well then we have a problem.
Can anyone explain their rationale. I’m baffled. The thug had a gun in confrontation with officers. Are they just stupid and lead like children?

Let’s see, following the Ferguson pattern, a DOJ investigation finds chronic racism on part of police in Milwaukee. Solution: throw money at the problem: extend unemployment compensation,increase EBT, register more Dems, sensitivity train police.
